To protect against fire, electrical shock and personal injury, do not immerse cord, plug or appliance in
water or other liquid.
Close supervision is necessary when any appliance is used by or near children.
Unplug from the outlet when not in use and before cleaning. Allow to cool before fitting or taking off

in any manner. Return the appliance to the nearest authorized De’Longhi service facility for examination,
repair or adjustment.
The use of accessory attachments or spare parts not recommended by the appliance manufacturer may
result in fire, electrical shock or personal injury.
Do not use outdoors.

SHORT CORD INSTRUCTIONS
- A short power cord is provided to reduce risks resulting from becoming entangled in or tripping over a longer
cord.
- Longer, detachable power supply cords or extension cords are available and may be used if care is exercised
in their use.
- If an extension cord is used, the marked electrical rating should be at least as great as the electrical rating of
the appliance. The longer cord should be arranged so that it will not drape over the counter-top or table top
where it can be pulled on by children or tripped over.
- Your product is equipped with a polarized alternating current line plug (a plug having one blade wider than
the other). This plug will fit into the power outlet only one way. This is a safety feature. If you are unable to
insert the plug fully into the outlet, try reversing the plug. If the plug should still fail to fit, contact your
electrician to replace your obsolete outlet. Do not defeat the safety purpose of the polarized plug.

1 Make sure the selector knob is in the off position ( ) and
that the steam/hot water knob is closed by turning
clockwise (don’t overtighten).
2 Lift out the tank, remove the lid and fill with cold water.
Never fill above the MAX level marked. Alternatively
remove the lid and fill the tank while in position on the
coffee maker.
We recommend using filtered water as it produces better
coffee and reduces limescale. Never use fizzy water.
Replace the tank. Make sure that it is correctly in place
and apply light pressure if necessary to ensure the valve
at the bottom of the tank connects with the bottom of the
machine.
Note it is normal for water to remain in the compartment
under the tank. This can be dried using a sponge.
Important
Never operate the machine without water in
the tank. Refill as soon as the level gets low.
3 Swing out the cappuccino and latte system and put a jug
underneath.
4 Attach the filter holder to the machine by positioning it
under the liquid coffee/boiler outlet and turning to the
right. Place a bowl underneath.
5 Turn the selector knob to the boiler position ( ). The
boiler light will come on, wait until the OK light glows.
6 Turn the selector knob to the coffee/hot water position
( ) and wait until two cups of water run into the bowl.
7 Turn the steam/hot water knob anti-clockwise and allow
two cups of water to run into the jug.
8 Turn the steam/hot water knob clockwise and turn the
selector knob to the off position ( ).
9 Repeat these steps if you haven’t used the coffee maker
for a few days.
3
Important
Never remove the filter holder while the coffee ( ) or
steam ( ) function is selected or while coffee
is brewing – steam could shoot out and burn you.
to make coffee using E.S.E. filter pods
Important
If the filter for one cup is used after ground coffee has
been used, it is necessary to clear any ground coffee
from around the liquid coffee/boiler outlet. This is
necessary to avoid water leakages from the filter holder
and to ensure optimum performance. Take care as the
area may be hot.
1 Pre heat the machine as described. This will ensure that
the coffee is delivered at a hotter temperature. Fit the
small filter into the filter holder before fitting it to the
machine, making sure that the tab on the filter fits into the
slot on the filter holder.
2 Place the E.S.E. coffee pod into the filter making sure the
pod is facing the correct way .
3 Press the pod towards the lower part of the filter, making
sure that the paper flaps adhere to the inner part of the
filter.
4 The pod needs to be well centred and placed in the filter.
5 Fit the filter holder into the liquid coffee/boiler outlet and
turn to the right until it locks into position .
6 Follow the points ‘to make espresso’.
Note – use pods that conform to
the ESE standard.
Always follow the instructions on the package of the pods
for the correct positioning of the pods in the filter.
to froth milk for cappuccino
Prepare the espresso as previously described
1 Make sure there is water in the tank.
2 Turn the selector knob to the steam position ( ). Wait
until the OK light comes on indicating that the boiler has
reached the correct temperature.
3 Partly fill a jug with milk – the milk may increase up to
three times in volume so select a suitably sized jug.
Cold skim milk produces the best results.
4 Position the jug under the cappuccino and latte system
.
5 Place the nozzle into the milk about 1 inch deep and turn
the steam/hot water knob in an anti clockwise direction.
The milk will begin to increase in volume and appear
frothy. When the volume of the milk has doubled, fully
immerse the nozzle and continue heating the milk. Once
the desired temperature is reached, stop the steam by
turning the steam/hot water knob clockwise.
Never allow the milk to boil as this will spoil the flavor of
the coffee.
6 Turn the selector knob back to the off position ( ).
7 Pour the frothed milk into the cups containing the
espresso coffee.
Important – Never operate the cappuccino and latte
system for longer than 2 minutes at one time.
hint - to prepare more than one cappuccino, first make
all the coffees then at the end prepare the frothed milk for
all the cappuccinos.
preheating the coffee machine
To ensure your espresso coffee is dispensed at the right
temperature it is essential that the coffee unit is pre
heated.
1 Turn the selector knob to the boiler position ( ).
2 Check that the hot steam/water knob is firmly closed
(turn clockwise) and that there is water in the tank.
3 Fit the desired filter into the filter holder (without coffee)
and attach to the machine by positioning it under the
liquid coffee/boiler outlet and turning to the right .
Ensure it is firmly located.
4 Position a cup under the filter holder. If you use the same
cup that the coffee will be served in it will be preheated.
Alternatively the cups can be pre heated on the cup
warming tray.
5 When the OK light glows, turn the selector knob to the
coffee position ( ).
6 Allow water to flow out until the OK light goes out, then
turn the selector knob to the boiler position ( ).
7 Remove the filter holder and proceed to make coffee
using either ground coffee or coffee pods.
to make espresso using ground coffee
1 Pre heat the appliance as described above.
2 Check that there is water in the tank.
3 Select the desired filter and fit into the filter holder. Make
sure that the tab on the filter fits into the slot on the filter
holder.
Use the smaller filter for making one cup of coffee (or
when using coffee E.S.E. pods) and the larger filter for 2
cups.
4 Add the coffee using the measuring spoon provided one
level spoon per cup, level the surface then lightly press
with the back of the measuring spoon. Wipe off any
coffee around the rim.
When buying ground coffee make sure it is suitable for
espresso machines.
Never press the coffee too firmly as the coffee will come
out slowly and the crema will be of a dark color. However,
if it is pressed too lightly, the coffee will come out too fast
and the crema will be a light color.
5 Lift the filter holder into the liquid coffee/boiler outlet. Turn
it to the right to lock into position .
Put one or two cups underneath . If making one cup of
coffee, center your cup in the middle.
Ensure the selector knob is on the boiler position ( ),
the boiler light will come on. Wait until the OK light glows
then turn the selector knob to the coffee position ( ).
6 When you’ve enough coffee – not too much otherwise it
will be too weak, (optimum dosage is 1.5 oz per cup)
return the selector knob to the boiler position ( ). If
you’re not making any more coffee turn the selector knob
to the off position ( ).
7 Remove the filter holder by turning to the left.
There will be water on the filter when you remove it: this is
normal.
8 To remove the used coffee from the filter holder, flip the
lever on the handle so that the end locates over the filter
. Hold the lever in position with your finger pressed on
the heat resistant guard then tip the unit upside down
and tap out the grounds .
4
to make espresso after frothing milk
Important
Never remove the filter holder from its housing
immediately after using the steam function.
If you’re making espresso after frothing milk, you need to
get rid of any over-hot water that could burn your coffee.
Here’s how:
1 Place a container underneath the cappuccino and latte
system, ensuring the selector knob is at the boiler
position ( ), then turn the steam/hot water knob anti
clockwise. Turn the selector knob to the coffee position
( ) and allow the water to flow out until the OK light
comes on.
2 Turn the selector knob to the boiler setting ( ) to stop
the water flowing from the cappuccino and latte system.
Turn the steam/hot water knob in a clockwise direction to
close.
3 The unit is now ready to make coffee.
to boil water for other drinks, tea, fruit
drinks.
1 Make sure the selector knob is in the off position ( ).
2 Check that there is water in the tank.
3 Turn the selector knob to the boiler position ( ).
4 Position a container under the cappuccino and latte
system.
5 When the OK light glows, turn the steam/hot water knob
in an anti-clockwise direction then the selector knob to
the coffee/hot water position ( ). Hot water will come
out of the cappuccino and latte system.
6 To stop the flow of hot water return the selector knob to
the off position ( ) then turn the steam/hot water knob
in a clockwise direction.
Do not dispense hot water from the cappuccino and latte
system for longer than 20 seconds in one operation.

described invalidates the guarantee.
descaling
It is advisable to descale the coffee maker after 200 cups
of coffee have been made.
1 We recommend purchasing a specific product for
descaling espresso coffee machines.
2 Make sure the filter holder is not attached and position a
bowl under the liquid coffee/boiler outlet.
3 Pour 1 liter of water and 8.5 oz. descaler into the tank.
4 Turn the selector knob to the boiler position ( ) and
wait until the OK light glows.
5 Turn the selector knob to the coffee position ( ) and
allow half the solution to flow out. Turn the selector knob
back to the off ( ) position to stop the flow.
6 Leave the machine to stand for 15 minutes, then turn the
knob to the coffee position ( ) and allow the tank to
completely empty.
7 Thoroughly rinse the tank. Fill with fresh water and turn
the selector knob to the coffee position ( ) and allow all
the water to flush through.
8 Turn the selector knob to the off ( ) position.
Repairs caused by malfunctioning due to a build up of
limescale in the product are not covered by the guarantee
if the descaling process is not carried out regularly.
