guide to get the most out of your phone.
Before Using Your Phone
Read the Get Started guide that was packaged with your phone, and the Safety & W arranty Information
installed in the phone thoroughly for pro per usage.
Accessible services may be limited by subscription c ontract conditions.
Descriptions in the User Guide
Note that most descriptions in this guide are base d on your phone’ s setup at the tim e of purchase. Unless
otherwise noted, instructions begin f rom the phone’ s home screen, which is displayed by pressing .
Some operation descriptions ma y be simplified.
Screenshots and Key Labels
Screenshots and other illustrations in this user guide may appear differently on your phone. Ke y labels in
the user guide are simplified for description purpos es and differ from your phone’ s displa y.
Other Notations
In the user guide, the phone ma y be referred to either as "phone," "device," or "handset." A microSD™ or
microSDHC™ card is referred to as an "SD card" or a "memory card."

Phone Layout
The following illustration outlines your phone’s prim ary external features and keys.
Set Up Your Phone 4
Displays a phone notification, charging status, or alert.
Detects how close an object is to the surface of the screen. This is
typically used to detect when your face is pressed up against the
screen, such as during a phone call.
While talking on the phone, the sensor detects talk activity and locks
the keypad to prevent accidental keypresses.
Displays all the information needed to operate your phone. Use finger
gestures to navigate and interact with i tems on the screen.
In Underwater mode, the touch operation will be disabled.
Displays thumbnail images of apps you have recentl y accessed.
Let you hear the different ringtones and sounds. T he speakers also let
you hear the caller’s voice in speakerphone m ode.
Lets you return to the previous screen, or close a dial og box, options
menu, the notification panel, or onscreen k eyboard.
Returns you to the Home screen. Press a nd hold to open the
Google
TM
search app.
Let s you hear the caller and automated prom pts.
Takes pictures and records videos while facin g the screen, and allows
you to video conference.
Suppresses background noise improving aud io quality for the other
party during voice calls. In speakerphone m ode, it is used as a main
microphone.
Allows you to plug in an optional headset for c onvenient, hands-free
conversations or for listening to music.
Lets you place or receive calls in speakerphone m ode or turn the
speakerphone on and off during a call.
Transmits your voice for phone calls and is used for voice-activated
functions. It is disabled in speakerphone m ode.
Allows you to connect the phone and the m icro-USB cable for use with
the charger adapter, or other com patible accessories.

Allows you to adjust the ringtone or media volum e when you are not
on a call, or adjust the voice volume during a c all.
Allows you to assign a frequently used function for qui ck access. By
installing PTT application, this ke y can also act as a PTT key. See
Programmable Key Settings.
Lets you turn the phone on or off or turn the sc reen on or off, restart
the phone, switch your phone to Airplane m ode, or capture
screenshots. The key also works as the fingerprint sen sor.
SIM/microSD card slots
(Internal)
Allow you to insert a SIM card and a microSD card.
Note: microSD cards are sold separately.
Lets you activate the front came ra, the back camera or the Wide-View
Action Camera.
Let s you take pictures and videos.
Helps illuminate subjects in lowlight en vironments when taking a
picture or recording a video. It can also wor k as an LED flashlight. See
Flashlight.
Lets you take pictures and videos in wide angle.
Allow you to connect to a multi-ba y battery charger that can charge
multiple phones simultaneously.
CAUTION! Inserting an accessory into the incorr ect jack may damage the phone.
Charge the Battery Follow these instructions to charge your phone’s batter y using either the included AC adapter or via a
USB connection on your computer.
Note: This phone has an integrated b attery that cannot be removed by the user.
Battery Cautions
Storage: Avoid storing or leaving battery with no charge rem aining. Saved information and settings
may become lost or changed, or batter y may become unusable. Charge once every six months
before storing or leaving unused for a long period.
Charge Using the AC Adapter
1. Open the cover to the Charger/USB port on the bo ttom of the phone.

2. Plug the smaller end of the USB cable into the phone’s Charger/USB port.
3. Plug the other end of the USB cable into t he AC adapter, and then plug the adapter into an
electrical outlet. Be sure to use the AC adapter that ca me with your phone.
4. When charging is complete, remove the cable f rom the port and close the cover. Press around
the edges of the cover to ensure that it is s ecurely closed.
Note: Your phone’s battery should have enou gh charge for the phone to turn on and find a signal, set up
voicemail, and make a call. You should full y charge the battery as soon as possible.
Warning: Be sure all ports and covers are properly sealed to maintain the phone’ s waterproof capability.
Fully charging a battery may take up to three hours.
5. After charging, disconnect the phone from the charger.
Unplug the AC adapter from the outlet, and rem ove the USB cable from the phone and the
AC adapter.
Charge Using a PC Connection
Before using a PC connection to charge your phon e, ensure that the computer is turned on. Depending
on the type of connection, your phone’s battery m ay not charge.
1. Insert the small end of the USB cable into the phone’s charger/USB port.
2. Insert the large end of the USB cable into an external USB port on your computer.
3. After charging, remove the USB cable f rom both the phone and the computer.
Charge the Battery Wirelessly
Your phone supports the PMA standard via a wireless charging accessory (sold separately). Follow the
steps below to charge the battery using a wireless c harger.

1. Locate the charging area on your wireless charg er by referring to the charger documentation.
2. Place your phone in contact with the charger, ensuring that the charging area of your phone
touches the charging area of your wireless charger.
Before starting wireless charging, please note the fol lowing:
● If the charging areas are not touching, the charging results will be poor.
● Ma ke sure there is nothing between your phone and wireless charger.
● Your phone may become hot while charging the battery.
● If charging doesn ’t start after positioning your phone correctly, please use the AC adapter that
came with your phone.

SIM Card The SIM card is an IC card containing phone num ber and other customer information. Your phone’s SIM
card is preinstalled and should only be acces sed if directed by a customer service representati ve.
Handling a SIM Card
Keep the following in mind when handling a SIM c ard.
● Customer is responsible for any damage caused b y inserting SIM card in another-brand IC c ard
reader, etc. Sprint is not responsible in such c ase.
● Always keep the IC chip clean.
● Wipe clean with a dry, soft cloth.
● Avoid applying labels. May damage SIM card.

● See instructions included with SIM card for han dling.
● The SIM card is the property of Spr int.
● The SIM card is replaceable (at cost) in case of loss/d amage.
● Return the SIM card to Sprint when cance ling subscription.
● Returned SIM cards are recycled for environm ental purposes.
● Note that SIM card specifications and perform ance may change without notice.
● It is recommended that you keep a separate cop y of information that is stored on SIM card. Sprint
is not responsible for damages from stored information that is lost.
● Always follow emergency procedures to suspend s ervice if your SIM card or phone (SIM card
inserted) is lost/stolen. For details, contact Custom er Service.
● Always power off phone before inserting/rem oving SIM card.
Insert SIM Card
Follow these instructions to insert a SIM card. Rem ember to power off your phone before inserting a SIM
card.
Note: Your phone’s SIM card is preinstalled. T hese instructions are for reference only.
1. Locate the slit at the bottom of the back c over.
2. Insert your fingernail in the slit, and slo wly and carefully lift the back cover up until it is se parated
from the phone.
Warning: Do not bend or twist the back cover. Doing so may damage the cover.

3. Open the SIM/microSD slot cover, as shown.
4. Push the SIM card gently with your finger. T he card ejects itself. Pull out the original SIM card
from the slot.
5. Carefully insert the new SIM card into the SI M card slot on the left, with the gold contacts facing
down and the cut off corner on the top left.
6. Securely close the SIM/microSD slot cover.
Warning: Be sure the SIM/microSD slot cover is properly sealed to maintain the phone’ s waterproof
capability.

7. Replace the back cover. Press around the edges to ensure a proper fit.
Warning: Be sure all ports and covers are properly sealed to maintain the phone’ s waterproof capability.
SD Card Your phone supports the use of an optional SD card ( not included) to expand its storage capac ity. It
supports cards up to 256 GB. Som e cards may not operate properly with your phone.
Note: You can easily damage the microSD card b y improper operation. Please be careful when inserting,
removing, or handling it.
SD Card Cautions
Data: Information stored on SD card can b ecome lost or changed accidental ly as a result of dam age.
It is recommended that you keep a separate cop y of important data. Sprint is not responsible for
damages from data that is lost or changed.
Reading/Writing Data: Never power of f while reading or writing data.
Battery Level: A low battery charge m ay prevent reading/writing to SD card.
Handling SD Card: Use/store SD cards away from the reach of infants. May cause choking if
swallowed.
Insert an SD Card Follow these steps to insert an optional SD card (not included). Make sure to power your phone off before
inserting or removing an SD card.
1. If your phone is on, turn it off.
2. Insert your fingernail in the slit, and slo wly and carefully lift the back cover up until it is se parate d
from the phone
Warning: Do not bend or twist the back cover. Doing so may damage the cover.

3. Open the SIM/microSD slot cover and insert a n SD card into the slot on the right with the gold
terminals facing down. Gently push the card i nto the slot until it snaps into place.
Insert SD Card all the way gently without bending.
Insert only SD Cards.
4. Securely close the SIM/microSD slot co ver.
Warning: Be sure the SIM/microSD slot cover is properly sealed to maintain the phone’ s waterproof
capability.
5. Replace the back cover. Press around the ed ges to ensure a proper fit.
Unmount an SD Card Always unmount the SD card before rem oving it from your phone.
1. From home, tap Apps > Settings .
2. Tap Storage .
3. Tap the eject icon next to SD card .

The card is now unmounted.
Remove an SD Card Follow these instructions to remove an SD card. Always power the phone off before insertin g or removing
an SD card.
1. If your phone is on, turn it off.
2. Remove the back cover by inserting your fingernail in the slit on the bottom of your phone .
3. Locate and open the SIM/microSD slot on the side of the phone.
4. Push t he SD card so the card is partly ejected. G ently pull out the card from the slot.
5. Securely close the SIM/microSD slot cover.
Warning: Be sure the SIM/microSD slot cover is properly sealed to maintain the phone’ s waterproof
capability.
6. Replace the back cover. Press around the edges to ensure a proper fit.
Format an SD Card When you insert an o ptional SD card for the first time, it is recommended that you format it on your phone.
1. From home, tap Apps > Settings .
2. Tap Storage > SD card .
3. Tap > Settings > Fo rmat or Format as internal > ERASE & FORM AT > OK .
• Format: Select to format your SD card.
• Format as internal: Select to use as in ternal storage for this device only. After formatting,
the SD card will only work in this device.
Warning: The formatting procedure erases al l the data on the SD card, after which the files CANNOT be
retrieved. To prevent the loss of important data, ple ase check the contents before you format the card.
All data on the SD card is erased, and the card is formatted for use on your phone.
Turn Your Phone On and Off The instructions below explain how to turn your pho ne on and off.
Turn Your Phone On
■ Press and hold the Power key until the scr een lights up.
You r phone will po wer on. Depending on the settings, you may see the lock screen.

The first time you turn the phone on, you will see the s tartup screens. See Complete the
Setup Screens for details.

Turn Your Phone Off
1. Press and hold the Power key to displa y the device options menu.
2. Tap Power off > OK to turn the phone off .
You r phone will po wer off.
Your screen remains blank while your phone is off (unless the battery is charging).
Use the Touchscreen Your phone’s touchscreen lets you control actions thro ugh a variety of touch gestures.
Tap
When you want to type using the onscreen ke yboard, select items onscreen such as application and
settings icons, or press onscreen buttons, s imply tap or touch them with your finger.
Touch and Hold
To open the available options for an item (for example, a contact or link in a Web page), touch and hold
the item.

Swipe or Slide
To swipe or slide means to quickly drag your finger vertically or horizontally across the screen.
Drag
To drag, touch and hold your finger with som e pressure before you start to move your finger. W hile
dragging, do not release your finger until you have reached the target position.

Flick
Flicking the screen is similar to swiping, except that you need to swipe your finger in light, quick strokes.
This finger gesture is always in a vertical direction, such as when flicking the contacts or message list.
Rotate
For most screens, you can automatically change the s creen orientation from portrait to landscape by
turning the phone sideways. When entering tex t, you can turn the phone sideways to bring up a bigger
keyboard. See Touchscreen Keyboards f or more details.

Note: Rotate the contents of the screen n eeds to be selected for the screen orientation to autom atically
change. From home, tap Apps > Settings > Display > When device is rotated .
Tip: You can also access the screen rotation settin g from the notification panel. Pull down the status bar
at the top of the screen and t ap Rotatio n to turn the option on or off.
Pinch and Spread
“Pinch” the screen using your thumb and foref inger to zoom out or “spread” the screen to zoom in when
viewing a picture or a Web page. (Move fingers inward to zoom out and outward to zoom in.)
Activate Your Phone Follow the instructions below to activate your phone if it has not already been activated. Depending on
your account or how and where you purchase d your phone, it may be ready to use or you may need to
activate it on your Sprint account.

● If you purchased your phone at a Sprint Store, it is probably activated and ready to use.
● If you received your phone in the m ail and it is for a new Sprint account or a new line of service, it
is designed to activate automatically.
When you turn the phone on for the first tim e, you should see a Hands Free Activation
screen, which may be followed by a PRL Update screen and a Firmware Update screen.
Follow the onscreen instructions to continue.
● If you received your phone in the m ail and you are activating a new phone for an existing number
on your account (you’re swapping pho nes), you can activate on your computer online or directly
on your phone.
Activate on your computer:
• Go to sprint.com/activate and com plete the online instructions to activate your phone.
Activate on your phone :
• Turn on your new phone. (Make sure the old one is turned off.) Your phone will
automatically attempt Hands-F ree Activation.
• Tap Activate to override auto-activation a nd start the manual activation wizard.
• Follow the onscreen prompts to com plete the activation process.
To confirm activation, make a phone call. If your phone is still not activated, visit sprint.com /support for
assistance. If you do not have access to the Internet, call Sprint Customer Service at 1-8 88-211-4727
from another phone.
Tip: Do not press the Power key while the phone is b eing activated. Pressing the Power key cancels the
activation process.

Complete the Setup Screens The setup screens help you set up certain features an d preferences on your phone. Once your phone has
been turned on, you will see an Accessibility mess age. You can then complete the setup process .
Note: You may be able to complete the setup s creens before your phone has been activated on your
account.

1. On the TalkBack screen, tap NEXT to get started.
2. Follow the onscreen instructions to complete each sect ion. For each topic, you will have the
option to skip it and continue to the next screen.
Language Selection – Select a desired langu age.
Set Up Wi -Fi – If prompted, follow the prompts to sign in to an available Wi-Fi network. For
secured Wi-Fi networks, you will need to enter a password. See Wi-Fi for more details.
Protect your phone – Prevent others fr om using this phone without your permissions by
activating device protection features.
Google Services – Read all of the inf ormation for the available Google Services and, if you
agree, tap NEXT . Otherwise, uncheck the options and tap NEXT .

• Help apps find your location – He lps apps determine location. This means sending
anonymous location to Google, even when no ap ps are running. Tap Learn more f or
additional information.
• Improve location accuracy – By allowin g apps and services to scan for Wi-Fi network s
and Bluetooth

devices, even when Wi-F i and Bluetooth are off.
• Help improve your Android experience – By automatically sending diagnostic and
usage data to Google.
3. Tap DONE . Your setup is now complete. Foll ow the onscreen instructions to learn about basic
tap menu navigation, view tutorials, or just get start ed.
You r phone is now set u p for use. If you skipped any part of the setup, you can access
additional options through the Apps screen or throu gh Settings.
Note: You do not need to sign up for a Google Acc ount to use your phone. However, to download apps
from Google Play, you must link your phone to a Goo gle Account.
