Washer Safety

IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS

WARNING: To reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, or injury to persons when using the washer, follow basic precautions, including the following:

n Read all instructions before using the washer.

nDo not wash articles that have been previously cleaned in, washed in, soaked in, or spotted with petrol, dry-cleaning solvents, or other flammable or explosive substances as they give off vapours that could ignite or explode.

nDo not add petrol, dry-cleaning solvents, or other flammable or explosive substances to the wash water. These substances give off vapours that could ignite or explode.

nUnder certain conditions, hydrogen gas may be produced in a hot water system that has not been used for 2 weeks or more. HYDROGEN GAS IS EXPLOSIVE. If the hot water system has not been used for such a period, before using the washer, turn on all hot water taps and let the water flow from each for several minutes. This will release any accumulated hydrogen gas. As the gas is flammable, do not smoke or use an open flame during this time.

nThis appliance is not intended for use by children or by persons with reduced physical, sensory, or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and knowledge, unless they have been given supervision or instructions concerning safe use of the appliance by persons responsible for their safety. Such persons must also understand the possible hazards involved during use.

nCleaning and user maintenance by children must be supervised.

nChildren should be supervised to ensure that they do not play with the appliance.

nChildren less than 3 years of age should be kept away from the appliance unless continuously supervised.

nBefore the washer is removed from service or discarded, remove the door or lid.

nDo not reach into the washer if the drum, tub, or agitator is moving.

nDo not install or store the washer where it will be exposed to the weather.

n Do not tamper with controls.

nDo not continue to use this appliance if it appears to be faulty.

nDo not repair or replace any part of the washer or attempt any maintenance unless specifically recommended in this Use and Care Guide.

Repairs and servicing should only be carried out by Whirlpool authorized service personnel.

n See Installation Instructions for earthing instructions.

nIf the supply cord is damaged, it must be replaced by Whirlpool authorized service personnel in order to avoid a hazard.

nUse only new hoses to connect the appliance to the water supply. Used hoses must not be used and should be discarded.

What’s New Under the Lid?

Your new washer will operate differently than your past agitator-style washer.

Lid Locked

When the Lid Locked light is on, the lid is locked and cannot be opened. When the light is off, the lid is unlocked and can be opened. If you need to open the lid to add a garment, you must press START/STOP/PAUSE/UNLOCK LID and wait for the lid to unlock. The lid will only unlock and the Lid Locked light will only turn off after washer movement has stopped. Depending on when in the cycle you try to pause, it may take several seconds to several minutes for the lid to unlock.

Sounds

At different stages of the wash cycle, you may hear sounds and pauses that are different from those of your previous washer. For example, you may hear a clicking and hum at the beginning of the cycle as the lid lock goes through a self-test. There will be different kinds of humming and whirring sounds as the agitator tests for load balance or moves the load. And, sometimes, you may hear nothing at all as the washer allows time for clothes to soak.

IMPORTANT:

ɃWasher will not operate if the lid is open.

ɃWasher will not begin to fill with water until the lid is closed.

ɃThe washer cycle will cancel and water will automatically drain if the lid is left open for more than 10 minutes.

Specifications

These units are sold in multiple regions with different requirements for measuring capacity. Below are a few of the valid forms of measure posted on this product:

Dry Linen Capacity: A weight measure in load size that reflects the volumetric size of the washer basket.

GULF (GSO) Capacity: A capacity measure that represents the capacity at which performance testing was completed.

GULF (GSO) Water Consumption: Water consumption which the manufacturer declares will be used in a specific cycle.

IMPORTANT: This appliance is intended to be used in household and similar applications such as:

ɃStaff kitchen areas in shops, offices, and other working environments;

ɃFarm houses;

ɃBy clients in hotels, motels, and other residential-type environments;

ɃBed and breakfast-type environments;

ɃAreas for communal use in blocks of flats or in launderettes.

Appearance may vary.

1SOIL LEVEL

Soil Level settings adjust the agitation time as needed for your load. The Light setting is for lightly soiled garments and the Heavy setting is for garments that need longer wash time to release the soils from the fabric.

2WASH TEMP

Temperature Control senses and maintains uniform water temperatures by regulating incoming warm and cool water. This ensures the correct temperature is used to maximize cleaning while protecting the garments.

Select a wash temperature based on the type of fabric and soils being washed. For best results and following the garment label instructions, use the warmest wash water safe for your fabric.

NOTES:

ɃThe temperature of hot and cold water depends upon the temperature of the water entering your washer.

ɃWarm and cool water will be cooler than what your previous washer provided.

ɃEven in a cold and cool water wash, some warm water may be added to the washer to maintain a minimum temperature.

3DEEP FILL (on some models)

Set at “Yes” to add extra water to any cycle. Water will be added automatically, with the amount determined by the size of the load.

NOTE: Washer will continue to operate with agitation even as water is added.

4WASH CYCLE KNOB

Use the Wash Cycle knob to select available cycles on your washer. Turn the knob to select a cycle for your laundry load. See “Cycle Guide” for detailed descriptions of cycles.

5START/STOP/PAUSE/UNLOCK LID BUTTON

ɃPress to start the selected cycle.

ɃPress again to pause the cycle and unlock the lid.

ɃPress and hold for 3 seconds to cancel a cycle.

NOTE: If the washer is spinning, it may take several minutes to unlock the lid.

6 CYCLE STATUS LIGHTS INDICATOR

The Cycle Status Lights show the progress of a cycle. At each stage of the process, you may notice sounds or pauses that are different from traditional washers.

SENSING FILL

When the Start/Stop/Pause/Unlock Lid button is pressed, the washer will fill with water and begin the wash cycle.

WASH

You will hear the agitator moving the load. The motor sounds may change at different stages in the cycle. The wash time is determined by the selected soil level.

RINSE

You will hear sounds similar to the wash cycle as the washer rinses and moves the load. You may hear the motor turning on briefly (short hum) to move the basket while filling.

FINAL SPIN/SPIN

The washer spins the load at increasing speeds for proper water removal, based on the selected cycle.

CYCLE COMPLETE/DONE

Once the cycle is complete, this light will come on. Remove the load promptly for best results.

LID LOCKED/LOCKED

To allow for higher spin speeds, the lid will lock and the Lid Locked light will turn on. When this light is lit, the lid is locked and cannot be opened. When this light is off, the lid is unlocked and can be opened.

If you need to open the lid, press START/STOP/PAUSE/UNLOCK LID. The lid will unlock once the washer movement has stopped. This may take several minutes if the load was spinning at high speed. Press START/ STOP/PAUSE/UNLOCK LID again to resume the cycle.

7EXTRA RINSE (on some models)

This option can be used to automatically add a second rinse to most cycles.

NOTE: To open the lid during the rinse or extra rinse phase after the first spin, you must first press START/STOP/ PAUSE/UNLOCK LID to unlock the lid.

8PRESOAK (on some models)

This option can be used to automatically add a presoak time to a wash cycle. Items will gently tumble through the detergent and water for the selected time to help loosen tough stains.

USING YOUR WASHER

Plug into an earthed outlet.

Do not remove earth pin.

1. Sort and prepare your laundry

2. Add laundry products

ɃEmpty pockets. Loose change, buttons, or any small object can pass under the HE agitator and become trapped, causing unexpected sounds.

ɃSort items by recommended cycle, water temperature, and colorfastness.

ɃSeparate heavily soiled items from lightly soiled.

ɃSeparate delicate items from sturdy fabrics.

ɃDo not dry items if stains remain after washing, because heat can set stains into fabric.

ɃTreat stains promptly.

ɃClose zippers, fasten hooks, tie strings and sashes, and remove non-washable trim and ornaments.

ɃMend rips and tears to avoid further damage to items during washing.

Helpful Tips:

ɃWhen washing water-proof or water-resistant items, load evenly.

ɃUse mesh garment bags to help avoid tangling when washing delicate or small items.

ɃTurn knits inside out to avoid pilling. Separate lint-takers from lint-givers. Synthetics, knits, and corduroy fabrics will pick up lint from towels, rugs, and chenille fabrics.

NOTE: Always read and follow fabric care label instructions to avoid damage to your items.

Add a measured amount of HE

detergent or single-dose laundry packet into the basket.

If using Oxi-type boosters, color-safe bleach, or fabric-softener crystals, add

to the bottom of the washer basket before adding clothes.

IMPORTANT: Use only High Efficiency detergents. The package will be marked “HE” or “High Efficiency.” Using regular detergent will likely result in longer cycle times and reduced rinsing performance. It may also result in component failures and noticeable mold or mildew. HE detergents are made to produce the right amount of suds for the best performance.

NOTE: Follow the manufacturer’s instructions to determine the amount of laundry products to use.

Fabric softener

Water

Load garments in loose heaps evenly around basket wall. For best results, do not pack the load tightly. Do not wrap large items such as sheets around the HE agitator; load them in loose piles

around the sides of the basket. Try mixing different-sized items to reduce tangling.

IMPORTANT: Do not tightly pack or force items into washer. Items need to move freely for best cleaning and to reduce wrinkling and tangling.

4. Add liquid chlorine bleach to dispenser

Liquid

Chlorine Bleach

Do not overfill, dilute, or use more than 1 cup (236 mL). Do not use color-safe bleach or Oxi products in the same cycle with liquid chlorine bleach.

Pour a measured amount of liquid fabric softener into dispenser; always follow

manufacturer’s directions for correct amount MAX FILL of fabric softener based on your load size.

Dilute liquid fabric softener by filling the

dispenser with warm water until liquid reaches the underside of the rim. See max fill line arrows.
