Dell Latitude CP Reference and Troubleshooting Guide that came with your computer and the online Dell Lati tude CP and CPi User’s Guide located in the Dell Accessories folder.
New Microprocessor Options
The Dell Latitude CPi D300XT computer has a 13.3-inch active-matrix extended graphics array (XGA; 1024 x 786) color display and 512 kilobytes (KB) of external cache.
The Dell Latitude CPi D266XT computer has a 13.3-inch active-matrix XGA (1024 x 786) color display and 512 KB of external cache.
The Dell Latitude CPi D233ST computer has a 12.1-inch active-matrix super video graphics array (SVGA; 800 x 600) color display and 512 KB of external cache.
The Dell Latitude CP M233SD computer has a 12.1-inch high-performance high-contrast (HPHC; 800 x 600) SVGA color display and 512 KB of external cache.

Updated Features
In addition to features described in the Reference and Troubleshooting Guide and online System User’s Guide, the Latitude CP and CPi computers support the following features:
• A hard-disk drive password to help protect the data on the hard-disk drive from unauthorized access.
CAUTION: The hard-disk drive password provides a high level of security for the data on your hard-disk drive. However, it is not fool proof. If your data requires more security, it is your responsibility to obtain and use addi tional forms of protection, such as data encryption programs or PC Cards with encryption features.
Use the System Setup program to assign a hard-disk drive password. For instructions and more informa tion, search on “hard-disk drive password” in the online System User’s Guide.
The Latitude CP and CPi computers can be booted from a CD. For more information, search on “Page 1 of the System Setup program” in the online System User’s Guide and click on the Boot First Device, Boot Second Device, and Boot Third Device setup options.

The following features are not offered on the Dell Lati tude CP and CPi computers:

Inserting a CD Into the CD-ROM
Drive
The first time you use the CD-ROM drive, check to see if there is a white tab on the CD spindle. If there is such a tab, remove it.
To avoid damaging your CD or the CD-ROM drive, it is important to seat the CD properly. First, center the CD on the spindle (see Figure 1-1). Then gently press the CD down on both sides of the spindle until the CD snaps into place.
NOTE: The CD-ROM drive can be used only in the mod ular bo}’ of the computer or the media bey of the Dell Latitude C/Dock Expansion Station. Do not tiy to con nect the CD-ROM drive to any external connector on the input/output (I/O) panel of the computer or C/Dock Expansion Station.

Drive
Pc Card Information
If the computer uses the Microsoft® Windows® 95 or Windows 98 operating system, do not put a network PC Card into the PC Card slot before you turn on your com puter for the first time. A network PC Card that is left in the computer during the operating system setup may cause installation difficulties. You may insert and use any PC Card after the operating system setup is complete.
If the computer uses the Microsoft Windows NT® oper ating system, do not install any PC Card before you turn on the computer for the first time. You may insert and use any PC Card after the operating system setup is complete.
To avoid damaging the PC Card eject button, never leave it in the “out” position (extended beyond the computer case). If you accidentally press the PC Card eject button, remove and reinstall the PC Card immediately to make sure the button stays flush with the computer case (see Figure 1-2).

Use the following procedure to remove a PC Card:
1.Use a pen tip or other small instrument to press the PC Card eject button.
The button has a small recessed area designed to keep the pen tip from slipping.
2.When the eject button slides out, press it again to release the PC Card.
3.Gently remove the PC Card.
4.Using a pen or other small instrument, press the PC Card eject button until it is flush with the computer casing.

Turn On Your Computer, which came with the computer. If you are using a C/Dock Expansion Station, use the instructions in the document titled Before You Dock, which came with the C/Dock Expansion Station.
Deii Diagnostics Changes
This section updates information in Chapter 4, “Running the Dell Diagnostics,” of the Reference and Trouble shooting Guide.
The Dell Diagnostics does not include the following tests:
•The thermal-control device test in the System Set test group
•The fan test in the Other test group

Docking Information
If your computer came with a Dell Latitude C/Port Advanced Port Replicator (APR) or C/Dock Expansion Station, turn on the computer for the first time while it is undocked and complete the operating system setup. For setup instructions, see the operating system Setup Guide that came with the computer.
After the operating system setup is complete, turn off the computer, dock it, and turn it on again. Then install the appropriate drivers. For instructions on installing drivers for the C/Port APR, see the document titled Before You

Use Dell’s extensive suite of online services available at Dell’s World Wide Web site (http://www.dell.com) for help with installation and troubleshooting procedures.
Through the Internet, you can access most of the services described in Chapter 5, “Getting Flelp,” of tht Reference and Troubleshooting Guide, including AutoTech, TechFax, order status, technical support, and product information.
From Dell’s World Wide Web site (www.dell.com), click the Service and Sup port icon. On the Service and Support page,
enter your service tag number (or, if you have one, your Express Service Code) and click Submit. If you don’t have your service tag number, you can select support information by system for your computer.
Much of what you need to know about your computer is accessible from the Service and Support page, including the following:
•Technical information — Details on every aspect of your computer, including all of your hardware specifications.
•Self-diagnostic tools — An easy-to-use, systemspecific online application for troubleshooting and

resolving the majority of computer-related issues by following interactive flowcharts.
Drivers, files, and utilities — Important drivers and basic input/output system (BIOS) upgrades to keep your computer functioning at its best.
Component support — Technical information, docu mentation, and troubleshooting tips for computer components.
Online Communications Center— Submit requests for both technical and nontechnical information on Dell products. Avoid telephone delays with e-mail response to your request for information if your computer is not functioning properly or you have questions regarding your computer’s hardware or operation.

Fonctions mises à jour
Hormis les fonctions décrites dans le Guide de référence et de dépannage, les systèmes Latitude CP et CPi sup portent également les fonctions suivantes:
• Un mot de passe d’unité de disque dur empêchant tout accès non autorisé aux données stockées sur l’unité du disque dur.
PRÉCAUTION: Ce type de mot de passe four nit un haut niveau de sécurité pour les données stockées sur votre unité de disque dur. Il ne vous met cependant pas à l’abri des personnes mal intentionnées. Si vous estimez que ce niveau de sécurité n’est pas suffisant, il est de votre responsabilité d’obtenir et d’utiliser des formes de protections supplémentaires, telles que des programmes de cryptage de données ou des cartes PC dotées de tels programmes.

Insertion d’un CD dans le lecteur de CD-ROM
La première fois que vous utilisez le lecteur de CD-ROM, vérifiez si un onglet blanc figure sur l’axe du CD. Si c’est le cas, retirez-le.
Il est important d’insérer le CD correctement afin d’éviter d’endommager votre CD ou le lecteur de CD-ROM. Centrez le CD sur l’axe (voir Figure 2-1). Appuyez ensuite délicatement sur le CD des deux côtés de l’axe jusqu’à ce qu’il se mette en place avec un déclic.
REMARQUE: Le lecteur de CD-ROM ne peut être utilisé que dans la baie modulaire de l’ordinateur ou dans la baie média de la station Latitude C/Dock de Dell Ne tentez pas de connecter le lecteur de CD-ROM à un con necteur externe du panneau entrée/sortie (E/S) de l’ordinateur ou de la station C/Dock.

Informations sur les cartes PC
Ne placez pas de carte PC de réseau dans le logement pour carte PC avant l’allumage initial de votre système si celui-ci fonctionne avec le système d’exploitation Microsoft® Windows® 95. La présence d’une carte PC de réseau dans un ordinateur lors de l’initialisation du système d’exploitation peut occasionner des difficultés d’installation. Vous pouvez insérer et utiliser n’importe quelle carte PC une fois l’initialisation du système d’exploitation terminée.
N’installez pas de carte PC avant l’allumage initial de votre système si celui-ci fonctionne avec le système d’exploitation Microsoft Windows NT®. Vous pouvez insérer et utiliser n’importe quelle carte PC une fois l’ini tialisation du système d’exploitation terminée.
Ne laissez Jamais le bouton d’éjection de carte PC en position “détendue” (quand il dépasse le boîtier de l’ordi nateur) afin d’éviter de l’endommager. S’il vous arrive d’appuyer accidentellement sur le bouton d’éjection, retirez la carte PC et remettez-la en place immédiatement pour voir si le bouton s’aligne bien sur le boîtier de l’ordinateur (voir Figure 2-2).
