Print quality control of code symbols printed on
Japanese pharmaceuticals
The system supports the "Japanese Pharmaceutical Code quality verification
function" to enable the print quality control of code symbols printed on Japanese
pharmaceuticals recommended by the New Guideline for Barcode Labeling on
Prescription Drugs" issued in 2012.
For pharmaceuticals, the printable area of code symbols tends to be reduced due
to the product properties. Therefore, the composite symbols or similar are used,
which can be printed on a reduced space.
Since the printable area is limited, a low print quality of code symbols can cause
such field symptoms as the failure to read codes with the general-purpose barcode
reader (2D code reader) .
To prevent such risks, the print quality control of code symbols has been
recommended.
The "Japanese Pharmaceutical Code quality verification function" of the SR-750
Series can perform the code quality verification while maintaining the conventional
high reading performance.
This allows for the code reading and code quality qualification when transporting
the products.
For the "Japanese Pharmaceutical Code quality verification function", refer to
"3 Details of Japanese Pharmaceutical Code Quality Verification Function"
(Page 3).

Settings of the Japanese Pharmaceutical Code quality
verification function
To use the Japanese Pharmaceutical Code quality verification function, you need
to enable the verification settings.
(1) Setting using the AutoID Network Navigator
Press the "Code quality verification" button on the "Operation" tab in the
Settings view, and then check "Japanese Pharmaceuticals". In addition, select
the code to be verified.
Name of verification function Explanation
Japanese Pharmaceutical Code quali ty
verification
Function for evaluating the print quality of codes on
pharmaceuticals, recommended by the Safety
Division of Pharmaceutical and Food Safety Bureau
and the Economic Affairs Division of Health Policy
Bureau under the Ministry of Health, Labour and
Welfar e.
It makes reference to ISO/IEC15415 and ISO/
IEC15416.
(2) Setting using the setup commands
Send commands that enable the Japanese Pharmaceutical Code quality
verification function.
For configuration commands, refer to "5 Modified and Added Configuration
Commands" (Page 6).
Point
When the Code quality verification function is enabled, the decode
time becomes longer than when it is disabled.
Perform calibration after enabling the Code quality verification
function or set the decode timeout period required for reading.
Use the tact measurement test mode to confirm that there is no
problem with the reading time for operation.
Other settings, functions, and precautions regarding the
code quality verification
The following settings, functions, and precautions are similar to those of ISO/
IEC15415.
For details, refer to "3-11 Code quality verification function in SR-750 Series
