Transmit and Receive Procedure

Yourtwo-wayradiocontainsatransmitterandareceiver.Tocontrol yourexposureandensurecompliancewiththegeneral population/uncontrolledenvironmentexposurelimits,alwaysadhereto thefollowingprocedure:

Transmitnomorethan50%ofthetime.

Toreceivecalls,releasethePTTbutton.

Totransmit(talk),pressthePushtoTalk(PTT)button.

Transmitting50%ofthetime,orless,isimportantbecausetheradio generatesmeasurableRFenergyexposureonlywhentransmitting(in termsofmeasuringstandardscompliance).

Portable Radio Operation and EME Exposure

Antenna Care

Useonlythesuppliedoranapprovedreplacementantenna. Unauthorizedantennas,modifications,orattachmentscoulddamage theradioandmayviolateFCCregulations.

DoNOTholdtheantennawhentheradiois“INUSE.”Holdingthe antennaaffectstheeffectiverange.

Body-Worn Operation

TomaintaincomplianceswithFCC/HealthCanadaRFexposure guidelines,ifyouweararadioonyourbodywhentransmitting,always placetheradioinaMotorola-suppliedorapprovedclip,holder,holster, caseorbodyharnessforthisproduct.Useofnon-Motorola-approved accessoriesmayexceedFCC/HealthCanadaRFexposureguidelines.

IfyoudonotuseoneoftheMotorola-suppliedorapprovedbody-worn accessoriesandarenotusingtheradioheldinthenormaluse position, ensure the radio and its antenna are at least 1 inch (2.5 cm) from your body when transmitting.

Data Operation

Ifapplicable,whenusinganydatafeatureoftheradiowithorwithout anaccessorycable, position the radio and its antenna at least one inch (2.5 cm) from the body.

Electromagnetic Interference/Compatibility

Medical Devices – Pacemakers

TheAdvancedMedicalTechnologyAssociationrecommendsthata minimumseparationof6inches(15cm)bemaintainedbetweena handheldwirelessradioandapacemaker.Theserecommendationsare consistentwiththeindependentresearchbyandrecommendationsof theU.S.FoodandDrugAdministration.

Peoplewithpacemakersshould:

ALWAYSkeeptheradiomorethan6inches(15cm)fromtheir pacemakerwhentheradioisturnedON.

Notcarrytheradiointhebreastpocket.

Usetheearoppositethepacemakertominimizethepotentialfor interference.

TurntheradioOFFimmediatelyifthereisanyreasontosuspectthat interferenceistakingplace.

Medical Devices – Hearing Aids

Somedigitalwirelessradiosmayinterferewithsomehearingaids.In theeventofsuchinterference,youmaywanttoconsultyourhearing aidmanufacturertodiscussalternatives.

Other Medical Devices

Ifyouuseanyotherpersonalmedicaldevice,consultthemanufacturer ofyourdevicetodetermineifitisadequatelyshieldedfromRFenergy. Yourphysicianmaybeabletoassistyouinobtainingthisinformation.

Safety and General Use While Driving

Checkthelawsandregulationsregardingtheuseofradiosinthearea whereyoudrive,andalwaysobeythem.Ifyoudouseyourradiowhile driving,please:

Givefullattentiontodrivingandtotheroad.

Usehands-freeoperation,ifavailable.

Pullofftheroadandparkbeforemakingoransweringacallifdriving conditionssorequire.

Donotplaceaportableradiointheareaoveranairbagorintheair bagdeploymentarea.Airbagsinflatewithgreatforce.Ifaportable radioisplacedintheairbagdeploymentareaandtheairbaginflates, theradiomaybepropelledwithgreatforceandcauseseriousinjuryto occupantsofthevehicle.

Potentially Explosive Atmospheres

Turnoffyourradiopriortoenteringanyareawithapotentiallyexplosive atmosphere.Onlyradiotypesthatareespeciallyqualifiedshouldbe usedinsuchareasas“IntrinsicallySafe.”Donotremove,installor chargebatteriesinsuchareas.Sparksinapotentiallyexplosive atmospherecancauseanexplosionorfireresultinginbodilyinjuryor evendeath.

Note:Theareaswithpotentiallyexplosiveatmospheresreferredto aboveincludefuelingareassuchasbelowdecksonboats,fuelor chemicaltransferorstoragefacilities,areaswheretheaircontains chemicalsorparticles(suchasgrain,dustormetalpowders)andany otherareawhereyouwouldnormallybeadvisedtoturnoffyourvehicle engine.Areaswithpotentiallyexplosiveatmospheresareoften—butnot always—posted.

Blasting Caps and Areas

Toavoidpossibleinterferencewithblastingoperations,turnoffyour radiowhenyouarenearelectricalblastingcaps,inablastingarea,orin areasposted“Turnofftwo-wayradios.”Obeyallsignsandinstructions.

Operational Cautions

Antennas

Donotuseanyportableradiothathasadamagedantenna.Ifadamaged antennacomesintocontactwithyourskin,aminorburncanresult.

Batteries

Allbatteriescancausepropertydamageand/orbodilyinjurysuchas burnsifaconductivematerial—likejewelry,keysorbeadedchains— touchexposedterminals.Theconductivematerialmaycompletean electricalcircuit(shortcircuit)andbecomequitehot.Exercisecarein handlinganychargedbattery,particularlywhenplacingitinsidea pocket,purseorothercontainerwithmetalobjects.

Battery Charger Safety Instructions:

1.Donotexposethechargertorainorsnow.

2.Donotoperateordisassemblethechargerifithasreceivedasharp blow,orhasbeendroppedordamagedinanyway.

3.NeveraltertheACcordorplugprovidedwiththeunit.Iftheplugwill notfittheoutlet,havetheproperoutletinstalledbyaqualified electrician.Animproperconditioncanresultinariskofelectric shock.

4.Toreducetheriskofdamagetothecordorplug,pulltheplugrather thanthecordwhendisconnectingthechargerfromtheACreceptacle.

Thepinsontheplugoftheextensioncordarethesamenumber,size andshapeasthoseontheplugofthecharger.

Theextensioncordisproperlywiredandingoodelectricalcondition.

Thecordsizeis18AWGforlengthsupto100feet,and16AWGfor lengthsupto150feet.

Installing the Batteries:

YourradiousesthreeAAAAlkalinebatteriesandbeepswhenthe batteriesarelow.

1.Turntheradiooff.

2.Withthebackoftheradiofacingyou,useacointowedgethe batterycoveropen.

3.InsertthreeAAAAlkalinebatteriesasshownontheinsideofthe batterycompartment.

4.Repositionthebatterycoverandpressdowntosecure.

NOTE:TheFV200modelradiocanuseaNiMHrechargeablebattery insteadofthreeAAAbatteries.Arechargeablebatteryupgradekitis availablewiththerechargeableversion.

Installing the NiMH Battery Pack:

1.Turntheradiooff.

2.Followstep2abovetoremovethebatterycover.

3.Removethebatterypackfromtheclearplasticbag. DO NOT

DISASSEMBLE OR UNWRAP THE BATTERY PACK.

4.InserttheNiMHbatterypacksothe“ThisSideUp”isshowing.

5.Repositionthebatterycoverandpressdowntosecure.

Battery Meter

Thebatteryiconshowsthebatterychargelevel,fromfull to empty .Whenthebatteryisempty,theradiochirpsperiodically afterreleasingPTT.Theradiopowersoffwhenthevoltagedropsbelow apredeterminedleveltoprotecttherechargeablebattery.

Note:Removethebatteriesbeforestoringyourradioforextended periodsoftime.Batteriescorrodeovertimeandmaycausepermanent damagetoyourradio.

Low Battery Alert

Inadditiontoyourbatterymetershowinghowmuchbatterypoweryou have,yourradiowillbeeptoalertyoutothefactthatyourbatteries arelow.

Recharging NiMH Battery Pack (optionalaccessory)

1.Followsteps1-5forinstallingtheNiMHbatterypack.

2.PlugtheACpoweradapterintotheACadapterplugonthesideof theradio.

3.PlugtheACpoweradapterintothewall.

Notes:

ThelightonACpoweradapterwillglowcontinuouslywhen radio/batteryisconnected.

Whenmovingbetweenhotandcoldtemperatures,donotchargethe batteryuntilthebatterytemperatureacclimates(usuallyabout20 minutes).

Foroptimalbatterylife,unplugtheradiofromtheACpoweradapter within16hours.

WhenyourradioispluggedintotheACpoweradapter,yourradiowill notwork.

Turning Your Radio On and Off

To turn on,pressandhold MENUuntilachannelnumberappears andtheradiobeeps. To turn off,pressandhold MENU untilthe radiobeepsandthedisplaygoesblank.

Adjusting the Volume

Press + toincreaseor todecreasethevolume.Thevolumelevel flashesand VOLdisplays.

Attaching and Removing the Belt Clip

Hookthebeltclipintothenotchatthetopoftheradioandslidedown untilitclicksintoplace.Toremove,presslockingtabbackandliftup.

Talking and Listening

1.Totalk,pressandhold PTT.

2.Whenyouarefinishedtalking,release PTT .

Formaximumclarity,holdtheradiotwotothreeinchesawayfromyour mouthandspeakdirectlyintothemicrophone.Donotcoverthe microphonewhiletalking.

Talk Range

Yourradioisdesignedtomaximizeperformanceandimprove transmissionrange.Donotusetheradioscloserthanfivefeetapart.

Push to Talk Timeout Timer

Topreventaccidentaltransmissionsandsavebatterylife,theradio emitsacontinuouswarningtoneandstopstransmittingifyoupress PTT for60continuousseconds.

Selecting the Channel

Thechannelisthefrequencyyourradiousestotransmit.Yourradio has22channels.

1.Brieflypressandrelease MENU.Thechannelnumberflashes.

2.Press + or toselectachannel.

Setting and Transmitting Call Tones

Yourradiohas10differentcalltonesthatyoucantransmittoother radiosinyourgrouptoalertthemthatyouwanttotalk.

Tosetacalltone:

1. Withtheradioon,shortpress MENUuntilthe appears.The currentcalltonesettingflashes.

2.Press + or tochangeandhearthecalltone.

3.Press PTT tosetthenewcalltoneor MENUtocontinuesetup.

Totransmityourcalltonetootherradiossettothesamechannelas yourradio,press.

Note:Settingthecallto0disablesthecalltonefeature.

Transmitting a Talk Confirmation Tone

Youcansetyourradiototransmitauniquetonewhenyoufinish transmitting.Itislikesaying“Roger”or“Over”toletothersknowyou arefinishedtalking.

1.Withtheradioon,shortpressMENUuntilthe appears.The currentsettingOn/Offflashes.

2.Press + or toturnOnorOff.

3.Press PTT tosetthetalkconfirmationtoneor MENUtocontinue setup.

Key Tone On/Off

Youmayenableordisablethespeakerkeytones. Youwillhearthekey toneeachtimeabuttonispushed.

1.Shortpress MENU until appearsandthecurrentsetting On/Offwillflash.

2.Presseither + or toturnOnorOff.

3.Press PTT toconfirmor MENUtocontinuesetup.

WhentheKeyToneFeatureisoff,thefollowingarenotdisabled:

Transmittimeoutalerttone;

Lowbatteryalerttone;or

ThetransmittedTCTtone.

Auto Power On/Off

Yourradiowillsavepowerbyautomaticallyturningitselfoffifunused afterapredeterminedamountoftime.

1. Activatethissettingbyshortpressing MENUuntilthe displays. Thecurrentsetting(0,30,60,90)willflash.

2.Press +or tosetthetimeto30minutes,60minutesor90minutes.

3.WhenyouexitMenumode,thesettingtimerwillbeginifyouarenot usingtheradio.

Scanning Channels

Usescanningtomonitorchannelsfortransmissionsortofindsomeone inyourgroupwhohasaccidentallychangedchannels.

2.Presseither + or toturnOnorOff.

3.Press PTT toconfirmor MENUtocontinuesetup.

Whentheradiodetectschannelactivity,itstopsscanningandyoucan hearthetransmission.Torespond,press PTT withinfiveseconds.

Advanced Scan

Iftheradiostopsscanningonachannelyoudonotwanttolistento, brieflypressandrelease + or toresumescanningforthenext activechannel.

Monitor

Usethisfeaturetoseeifthereisanyoneonthechannelyouhave selected.

1.Shortpress MENUuntil RXappears.

2.Whenyoufinishlistening,press PTT toconfirmor MENUto continuesetup.

Note:Monitorwilltimeoutafterfivesecondsif PTT or MENUisnot pressed

Keypad Lock

Toavoidaccidentallychangingyourradiosettingsyoucanlockyour keypad:

1. Shortpress MENUuntilthe appears.Thecurrentsetting On/Offwillflash.

2.Pushthe + or toturnOnorOff.

3.The willbedisplayedonyourscreen.

Wheninlockmode,youcannotadjustthevolumebutallother functionsworkasusual.

Note:Tounlockpressandhold MENUforafewseconds.

Using Audio Accessories

Therearemanyaccessories(soldseparately)availableforyourradio. FormoreInformationcontacttheplaceof purchase.

1.Turntheradiooff.Plugtheaccessoryconnectorintotheaccessory jack.

2.Turntheradioon.Lowerthevolumebeforeplacingtheaccessoryon yourheadorinyourear.

3.Adjustthevolumetoacomfortablelevel.

4.Totransmit,press PTT andspeakintotheaccessorymicrophone, ifany.

5.Toreceive,release.
