About your digital bath fan control

The HVC0001/HVC0002 controller has been designed to control a single-speed bath fan. To suit the user’s preference and lifestyle, it can be programmed in any the following modes of operation:

Manual Mode (see page 10)

Daily On/Off Program Mode (see page 11)

Customized Cycle Program Mode (see page 12)

ASHRAE 62.2 Program Mode (see page 13)

Unlike the four programmable modes mentioned above, the Countdown Mode can easily be activated by simply pressing a button. In this mode, the fan is always On. At the end of the countdown, set by the user, the controller returns to the programmed mode (see page 14).

This controller cannot be used with a load lower than 0.1 A or higher than 2.5 A.

The controller can be used to control a bath fan’s built-in light or a separate light fixture connected to the bath fan control circuit. However, the light cannot be independently controlled and will turn On or Off at the same time as the fan.

Set the ASHRAE parameters

NOTE: Set the ASHRAE parameters before using the controller in ASHRAE mode.

When you power the controller for the first time, you will be prompted to set the following ASHRAE parameters:

Measurement units selection (US or metric)

No. of bedrooms (1, 2, ..., 6)

Floor space (1000, 1100, ..., 5000 sq. ft. or 100, 110, ..., 500 m2)

Fan capacity (30, 40, ..., 200 CFM or 15, 20, ..., 100 LPS)

If you do not touch any button, the controller goes to normal display after 60 seconds and you will be prompted to set the ASHRAE parameters again the next time the controller is powered down and back up. The ASHRAE parameters can also be accessed at any time.

NOTE: Refer to the ASHRAE parameter flowchart sheet on how to set the parameters.

After you have set the ASHRAE parameters, the controller will indicate whether you pass or fail to meet ASHRAE 62.2 standards and will also indicate the percentage of time the fan will run based on your ASHRAE settings. If this value exceeds 100%, the controller will indicate Fail; this usually means the fan capacity is insufficient for your house.

Customized Cycle Program Mode

The icon appears when the controller is in Customized Cycle Program Mode. In this mode, you set the Run (On) Period and the Idle (Off) Period for the fan. Each period can be set between 10 minutes and 120 minutes in increments of 5 minutes. The controller will cycle between the two periods. For example, if you set the Run Period to 10 minutes and the Idle Period to 20 minutes, you have established a cycle of 30 minutes. During every cycle, the fan will turn On for 10 minutes and Off for 20 minutes.

NOTE: Refer to the menu flowchart sheet on how to place the controller in Customized Cycle Program Mode and how to set the Run Period and Idle Period.

Temporary override

Press the main button to temporarily turn the fan On or Off. For example, if you press the main button to turn the fan On during the idle period, the fan will remain On until the beginning of the next idle period or until you press the main button again.

Countdown Mode

The icon appears when the controller is in Countdown Mode. Use this mode if you want to turn the fan On right away and you want to ensure that it stays On for an amount of time which you can set between 10 and 60 minutes. When you place the controller in Countdown Mode, the programmed mode is overridden until the end of the countdown. At any time, you can cancel the Countdown Mode and turn the fan off by pressing the main button.

To place the controller in Countdown Mode, press the left or right button.

Press the left or right button again to respectively decrease or increase the countdown time (in increments of 5 minutes). The controller memorizes the last countdown time you have used so that the next time you place the controller in Countdown Mode, that countdown time will appear on the screen by default.

NOTE: It is possible that the fan remains on at the end of the countdown time. This will happen if the controller falls within the “Fan On” period when the controller returns to its programmed mode.
