Taking Care of Your PortaTone

Your PortaTone will give you years of playing pleasure if you follow the simple rules given below:

1.Avoid placing the PortaTone in areas that are subject to excessive humidity or heat. Do not leave the instrument near heaters or in a car exposed to direct sunlight, for example.

2.Avoid locations in which the instrument is likely to be exposed to excessive dust or moisture,

3.Connections between the PortaTone and any other device must be made with both pieces of equip­ ment turned OFF.

4.Do not subject the instrument to strong physical shocks, and avoid placing heavy objects on it.

5.Use a soft cloth, dry or slightly damp, for cleaning. Never use chemicals such as benzine or thinner,

6.Since the PortaTone contains digital circuitry, it may cause interference if placed to close to radio

or television receivers. If this occurs, move the instrument further away from the affected equipment.

Power Supply

Your PSR-18 wilt run either from batteries (sold separately) or an optional power adaptor. Follow the instructions below according to the power source you intend to use.

• Using Batteries

Six 1,5V D size (SUM-1 or R-20) or equivalent alkaline batteries (sold separately) must first be installed in the battery compartment.

1.Open the battery compartment cover located on the instrument’s bottom panel.

2.Insert the six batteries, being careful to follow the polarity markings on the cabinet.

3.Replace the compartment cover, making sure that it locks firmly in place.

Caution:

1.When the batteries run down, replace them with a complete set of six new batteries. NEVER mix old and new batteries,

2.To prevent possible damage due to battery leakage, remove the batteries from the instrument if it is not to be used for an extended period of time.

•Using An Optional Power Adaptor

Plug the DC output cable from an optional PA-3, PA-4 or PA-40 Power Adaptor into the DC(9-12V)IN jack on the rear panel, then plug the adaptor into a convenient wall AC power socket.

Use ONLY a Yamaha PA-3, PA-4 or PA-40 Power Adaptor to power your instrument from the AC mains. Attempting to use other AC adaptors could result in serious damage to your PSR-18.

Behandlung Ihres PortaTone

Bitte befolgen Sie die untenstehenden Vofsichtsrnaßregein, damit Sie viele Jahre ungetrübten Spaß an ihrem Keyboard haben.

1.Das PortaTone nicht an Orten aufstellen, an denen übermäßige Hitze oder Feuchtigkeit auftritt. Das Instrument nicht in die Nähe von Wärmequellen plazieren oder längere Zeit in einem ver­ schlossenen, im prallen Sonnenlicht stehendem Fahrzeug belassen.

2.Das Gerät vor Staub und Nässe schützen,

3.Vor dem Anschluß von Zusatzgeräten diese Geräte und das PortaTone ausschalten.

4.Das Gerät vor Stößen schützen und keine schweren Gegenstände auf das Gerät steilen.

5.Zum Reinigen das Instrument mit einem trockenen oder leicht angefeuchteten Tuch abwischen. Niemals Lösungsmittel wie Benzin oder Verdünner zur Reinigung verwenden.

6.Da das PortaTone Digitalschaltungen enthält, kann es Radiound Fernsehempfang stören. In diesem Fall das PortaTone weiter entfernt von den betroffenen Geräten aufstellen.

Stromversorgung

Ihr PSR-18 kann mit Batterien oder aber über einen getrennt erhältlichen Netzadapter betrieben wer­ den, Befolgen Sie die nachfolgenden Anweisungen für die jeweilig verwendete Stromquelle.

• Stromversorgung über Batterien

Legen Sie zunächst sechs 1,5 V Monozellen (R-20, SUM-1 bzw. Größe D) oder entsprechende Al­ kalibatterien (getrennt erhältlich) in das Batteriefach des PSR-18 ein.

1. Öffnen Sie den Batteriefachdeckel auf der Unterseite des PSR-18.

2. Legen Sie die sechs Batterien entsprechend den Markierungen am Gehäuse ein.

3. Bringen Sie den Batteriefachdecket wieder an und achten Sie darauf, daß er einrastet.

Achtung:

1.Wenn die Batterien schwach werden, stets alle sechs Batterien zugleich als Satz austauschen. NIEMALS alte und neue Batterien zusammen verwenden.

2.Bei längerem Nichtgebrauch die Batterien aus dem Instrument nehmen, um mögliche Schäden durch auslaufende Batterien zu verhindern.

• Stromversorgung über Netzadapter (Sonderzubehör)

Schließen Sie dazu das Gieichspannungskabel des Netzadapters (PA-3, PA-4 oder PA-40 ) an die Buchse DC(9-12V)IN auf der Rückseite des PSR-18 an, bevor Sie den Adapter an eine Steckdose anschlteßen.

NUR einen der Yamaha Netzadapter PA-3, PA-4 oder PA-40 (Sonderzubehör) für den Netzstrombetrieb verwenden. Die Benutzung anderer Adapter kann zu Beschädigungen am PSR-18 führen.

Entretien du PortaTone

Votre PortaTone vous procurera de nombreuses années d’un plaisir inégalé si vous observez les quelques mesures de précaution suivantes.

1. Evitez de placer le PortaTone dans des endroits où il pourrait être soumis à une humidité ou chaleur excessive. Ne laissez jamais l’instrument à proximité d’un appareil de chauffage où dans un véhicule stationné en plein soleil, par exemple.

2.Evitez les endroits ou l’instrument pourrait être exposé à une poussière ou humidité excessives.

3.Tous les raccordements entre le PortaTone et un autre appareil doivent être effeaués avec les deux appareils hors tension.

4.Ne soumettez jamais l’instrument à des chocs physiques violents et évitez d’y placer des objets lourds,

5.Utilisez un chiffon doux, sec ou très légèrement humide, pour nettoyer l’instrument. N’utilisez jamais de produits chimiques tels que de la benzine ou un diluant,

6.Du fait que le PortaTone contient des circuits numériques, il risque de provoquer des interférences s’il est placé trop près d’un récepteur de radio ou de télévision. Si cela se produit, éloignez l’instru­

ment de l’appareil affecté.

Alimentation électrique

Le PSR-18 fonaionne aussi bien sur piles (vendues séparément) que sur secteur grâce à un adaptateur en option. Suivez les instructions données ci-après m fonction de la source d’alimentation que vous utilisez.

• Fonctionnement sur piles

Six piles de taille D de 1,5 V (SUM-1 ou R-20), ou des piles alcalines équivalentes (vendues séparément), doivent être mises en place dans le compartiment des piles.

1.Ouvrez le couvercle du compartiment des piles situé sur le panneau inférieur de l’instrument.

2.Placez les six piles en prenant soin de les diriger selon les indications de polarité données.

3.Remettez le couvercle du compartiment en place en assurez-vous qu’Ü est effectivement bloqué.

Attention:

L Lorsque les piles sont usées, remplacez-les par un nouveau jeu de six piles. N’utUisez JAMAIS en même temps des piles neuves et des piles usées,

2.Pour prévenir tout endommagement que pourrait provoquer une fuite des piles, retirez les piles de l’instrument si vous ne devez pas l’utiliser pendant une période prolongée,

•Utilisation d'un adaptateur secteur en option

Branchez le câble de sortie CC de l’adaptateur PA-3, PA-4 ou PA-40 en option à la prise DC(9-12V)IN située sur la face arrière de l’instrument et branchez ensuite l’adaptateur à une prise secteur murale.

N’utilisez qu’un adaptateur secteur Yamaha PA-3, PA-4 ou PA-40 pour alimenter l’instrument à partir du secteur. L’utilisation de tout autre adaptateur secteur pourrait gravement endommager te PSR-18,

Cuidados del PortaTone

Su PortaTone le ofrecerá muchos años de servicio si sigue las simples reglas que se mencionan

3.Las conexiones entre el PortaTone y otros aparatos deben realizarse estando ambos equipos desconectados.

5.Emplee un paño suave, seco o un poco humedecido para la limfiieza. No emplee nunca produc­ tos químicos como por ejemplo bencina o disolvente.

6.Puesto que ei PortaTone contiene circuitos digitales, puede causar interferencias si se pone cerca de receptores de televisión o de radio. Si así ocurre, aparte el instrumento del equipo afectado.

Alimentación

E) PSR-18 funcionará con pilas (que se venden por separado) o un adaptador de alimentación op­ cional. Siga las instrucciones siguientes de acuerdo con la fuente de alimentación que desee utilizar.

Empleo con pilas

Primero deberán instalarse seis pilas alcalinas de 1,5 V del tamaño D (SUM-1 o R-20) (se venden por separado) en el compartimiento de las pilas.

1.Abra la tapa del compartimiento de las pilas situado en el panel inferior del instrumento.

2.Inserte seis pilas, teniendo cuidado de seguir las indicaciones de las polaridades de la caja.

3.Vuelva a colocar la tapa del compartimiento, cerciorándose de que queda bien cerrada.

Precaución:

1.Cuando se han gastado las pilas, reemplácelas por un juego completo de seis pilas nuevas. NUN­ CA mezcle pilas usadas con pilas nuevas.

2.Para evitar posibles daños debidos a pérdidas de las pilas, extraiga las pilas del instrumento si no tiene la intención de utilizarlo durante períodos prolongados.

• Empleo de un adaptador de alimentación opcional

Enchufe el cable de salida de CC de un adaptador de alimentación PA-3, PA-4 o PA-40 opcional en la toma DC (9-12V) IN del panel posterior, y enchufe entonces el adaptador a un tomacorriente de CA que sea conveniente.

Emplee SOLO un adaptador Yamaha PA-3, PA-4 o PA-40 para alimentar el instrumento con la red eléctrica de CA, Si intenta emplear otros adaptadores de CA pueden ocasionar daños serios en el PSR-18.

Setting Up & Removing the Music

Stand

The PSR-18 is supplied with a music stand that can be attached to the in­ strument by inserting the two pegs extending from its lower edge into the corresponding holes on the rear-panel of the instrument.

To remove the music stand, remove the pegs from the holes while leaning the stand toward the keyboard.

Anbringen and Abnehmen des Notenständers

Dem PSR-18 liegt ein Notenständer bei. Zum Anbringen des Ständers die zwei Noppen an der unteren Kante in die beiden Löcher auf der Rückseite des Key­ boards einführen.

Zum Abnehmen den Ständer zur Klaviatur neigen und die beiden Noppen aus den Löchern ziehen.

Montage et retrait du pupitre

Le PSR-18 est fourni avec un pupitre pouvant être fixé sur l’instrument en introduisant les deux chevilles situées à la partie inférieure dans les trous correspondant du panneau arrière de l’instrument.

Pour enlever le pupitre, retirer les chevilles des trous tout en inclinant le pupitre vers le clavier.

El PSR-18 se suministra con un atril que puede colocarse en el instru­ mento insertando las dos patas que salen de su esquina inferior en los orificios correspondientes del panel posterior del instrumento.

Para sacar el atril, extraiga las patas de los orificios mientras inclina el atril hacia el teclado.

Using Headphones or an External Sound System____________________________

The Rear-panel HEADPHONES/AUX. OUT Jack □

A standard pair of stereo headphones can be plugged in Ьете for private practice or latenight playing. The internal stereo speaker system is autom^ically shut off when a pair of headphones is plugged into the HEADPHONES/AUX. OUT jack. The HEAD­ PHONES/AUX, OUT Jack can also be used to deliver the output of the PSR-18 to a keyboard amplifier, stereo sound system, mixing console or tape recorder. Use the optional Yamaha connecting cord to connect the HEADPHONES/AUX. OUT jack to your sound system.

Playing in the Harmony Mode El

When the PSR-18 is initially turned ON, voice number 00 (TRUMPET) is automatically selected and the HARMONY mode is turned OFF. The HARMONY mode can be turned

OFF or ON by pressing the CD button.

In the HARMONY mode, playing single notes on the keyboard produces automatic twoor four-part harmony, depending on the selected voice. The HARMONY mode is most useful with SINGLE FINGER or FINGERED Auto Accompaniment, described later. When HAR­ MONY is turned OFF, you can play single notes as well as your own chords or harmonies on the keyboard.

•If a SPLIT voice is selected, harmony will not be applied to the lower voice even if the HARMONY mode is ON.

•Only single notes can be played when the HARMONY mode is ON — with the exception of the lower voice when a SPLIT voice is selected.

Selecting Voices □

The PSR-18 has 100 different voices (00 through 99, listed in the VOICE BANK printed

on the top panel) that can	be selected by using the		0 - 0		and □ buttons. To select
any voice press two number buttons and then the ENTER button. To select voice number
	0	4			ENTER
04 (SOPRANO SAX), for example, press Q > Q > and then |					| . The closed hi-hat
voice will sound to confirm that the above buttons have been properly pressed.
The PSR-18 voices are divided into four categories:
SINGLE (voices 00—39):	Single voices.
ENSEMBLE (40—49):	Voices with an ensemble sound.
DUAL (50—79):	Combinations of two voices.
SPLIT (80—99):	Split voices with one voice playable on the left-hand section
	of the keyboard (to the left of the key) and the other
	playable on the right-hand section.

•SPLIT voices can only be used in the NORMAL mode. When the SINGLE FINGER or FINGERED Auto Accompaniment mode is selected on the upper voice will be used.

Adjusting the Volume Ш

Use the MASTER VOLUME control to set the desired volume level. Moving the MASTER VOLUME control toward the “MAX” setting increases the volume.

Spielen in der HARMONY-Betriebsart B

Beim Einschalten des PSR-18 wird automatisch Klang Nr. 00 (TRUMPET) abgerufen

HARMONY

und die HARMONY-Betriebsart ist zunächst ausgeschaltet. Die CZI -Taste dient

zum Einund Ausschalten der HARMONY-Betriebsart.

Wenn Sie in dieser Betriebsart einzelne Noten anschlagen, liefert das PSR-18 je nach gewähltem Klang automatisch zweioder vierstimmige Harmonien zur jeweiligen No­ te. Die HARMONY-Funktion empfiehlt steh besonders im Zusammenhang mit der wei­ ter unten beschriebenen SINGLE FINGERbzw. FINGERED-Begleitautomatik. Wenn Sie die HARMONY-Funktion ausschalten, können Sie einzelne Noten und eigene Akkorde oder Harmonie auf der Klaviatur spielen,

•Bei SP LIT-Klängen werden für die auf der linken Klaviaturhälfte angeschlagenen Noten auch bei akti­ vierter HARMONY-Betriebsart keine Harmonien erzeugt.

•Sie können nur einzelne Noten in der HARMONY-Betriebsart spielen. Bei SPLIT-Klängen können Sie mit dem Klang der linken Klaviaturhälfte jedoch mehr als eine Note simultan spielen.

Klangwahl □

Das PSR-18 stellt Ihnen 100 verschiedene Klänge zur Wahl (Nr. 00 bis 99, unter				VOI­
CE BANK auf dem Keyboardgehäuse aufgeführt}, die Sie durch Eingabe der jeweiligen

Die Klänge des PSR-18 sind in vier Gruppen unterteilt:

SINGLE (Klänge 00 — 39):	Einzelne Instrumente
ENSEMBLE (40 — 49):	Klänge mit Ensemblecharakter
DUAL (50 — 79):	Kombination zweier Klänge
SPLIT (80 — 99):	Zwei verschiedene Klänge für die linke (links von C** 3)
	und die rechte Klaviaturhälfte.

•SPLIT-Klänge können nur im NORMAL-Betrieb gespielt werden. Bei aktivierter Begleitautotnatik {SIN­ GLE FINGER bzw. FINGERED) erklingt nur die rechte Stimme.

Lautstärkeregelung В

Die Lautstärke wird über den MASTER VOLUME-Regler eingestellt. Wenn Sie den Re­ gier in Richtung MAX schieben, erhöht sich die Lautstärke.
