Thank you for purchasing the Sony D-848K Compact Disc Compact Player. Before operating your Discman, please read this manual and retain it for future reference.

For the accessories supplied with your Discman, refer to "Supplied Accessories" towards the end of this manual.

Owner's Record

The model number is located at the bottom and the serial number is located inside the battery compartment. Record the serial number in the space provided below. Refer to them whenever you call upon your Sony dealer regarding this product.

Playing a CD in a car

You can play a CD in a car, using your Discman on car battery. You can also use it on house current, rechargeable battery and dry batteries (see "Power Sources" on pages 18 and 19.)

d) Fit the CD to the pivot and press ± OPEN/CLOSE.

Play

(J) start playback on the car cassette deck.

To stop play, press ■ STOP/DISPLAY OFF.

Using the remote control

You can dperate the remote control only when the power is supplied through the DC IN 4.5 V jack.

The buttons on the remote control have the same function as those with the same names on the main unit (except the MODE button).

*Press to mute the sound instantly. Press again to resume sound.

How to install batteries

Insert two size AA (R6) batteries (not supplied) into the battery compartment.

When to replace the batteries

The batteries usually last for about 3 months.

When the remotely controllable area becomes smaller or the illumination of the buttons becomes darker, replace all the batteries with new ones.

To adjust the volume

Press LEVEL + or - button.

When you press LEVEL +, "LEV+" is displayed. When you press LEVEL "LEV-" is displayed.

To make various mode settings

How to set the mode on the remote control is different from how it is set on the main unit (see pages 9 -12).

1Press MODE.

2Select the mode you want by pressing A or ▼.

3Select the setting under the mode by pressing ► or ◄.

4Press TRANSMIT.

Notes

If 10 seconds have passed before you press TRANSMIT, the settings you have made will be cancelled. If this happens, repeat steps 1-4.

If the indicatioris on the display of the main unit do not change after you press TRANSMIT, that means the signals from the remote control have not been transmitted to the main unit successfully. Operate the remote control within the proper distance and angle from the main unit (see page 9.)

About the illumination

As long as the remote control is kept in its holder, all the buttons (except A, ▼, ►, and TRANSMIT) and the display are illuminated.

When the remote control is disconnected from its holder, the buttons are not illuminated.

When you press ILLUMINATION or any operation button, all the buttons (except A, T, ►, A and TRANSMIT) and the display are illuminated for about 15 seconds.
