Playing a CD

You can also use rechargeable batteries, dry batteries and a car battery as a power source.

1. Connect your CD player.

1 Connect the AC power adaptor.

2Connect the headphones/earphones with remote control.

For models supplied with the AC plug adaptor

If the AC power adaptor does not fit the AC outlet, use the AC plug adaptor.

For models supplied with the remote control.

Connect the plug of the headphones/ earphones to the remote control.

Connect the headphones/earphones to the remote control firmly. A loose

connection may cause noise during playback.

1 Pull out the OPEN/EJECT tab.

2Slide the tab to open the shutter of the CD compartment.

3Insert the CD into the slot with the label side up, and push it .

The shutter closes automatically.

Playing an 8-cm (3-inch) CD

(for the customers having purchased JE.W, HK2, CN2 and E13 models)

You cannot play an 8-cm CD on this CD player without using an adaptor. Make sure to attach an 8-cm CD adaptor to the CD before inserting it into the player.

Do not insert an 8-cm CD only into the slot.

Do not insert an 8-cm CD adaptor CSA-8 only into the slot.

If you do, try to remove it by turning the slot side down and shaking the player. In some cases you will not be able to remove it.

Attaching an adaptor to an 8-cm CD

1 Slide the CD into the inner groove and under two of the tabs on the inner circle of adaptor in the numbered order.

2 Pull the third tab out away from the CD and the CD will slip into place. Release the third tab and the CD will be held firmly in place.

3 Check that all the tabs are even with the surface of the adaptor.

Also check that the CD is set correctly in the grooves of the adaptor.

If the tabs protrude, press them back down into place. Otherwise, the player may malfunction.

1 Press x•CHG to stop playing the CD.

2 Pull out the OPEN/EJECT tab and slide it. The CD appears from the slot.

3 Remove the CD, and press the CLOSE button to close the shutter of the CD compartment.

4 Push back the OPEN/EJECT tab.

If you pull out the OPEN/EJECT tab without pressing x•CHG in step 1, the CD may be damaged or malfunction may occur.

3. Play a CD.

Press u.

Adjust the volume by pressing VOLUME + or –.

The lever marked with .-u-> is the jog lever. Press or slide the lever to operate your CD player.

About the display

When you press u after changing the CD or turning off and on the player, the total number of tracks in the CD and total playing time appear for about two seconds.

During play, the track number and the elapsed playing time of the current track appear.

During play of a CD containing text information, the disc name, artist name and the elapsed playing time of the current track appear. For details, see “Displaying CD text information”.

Between tracks, the time to the beginning of the next track appears with the -” indication.

During pause, the elapsed playing time flashes.

If the volume level does not increase

Is AVLS set to “LIMIT”? Set AVLS to “NORM.” For details, see “Protecting your hearing (AVLS).”

Playback starts from the point you stopped

Your CD player can recall the playback point where you stopped and then resume playing from the same place (resume function). There is no ON/OFF switch of the resume function on this CD player.
