This manual describes how to unpack and move your HPU into position.
Required Equipment
You will need the following equipment to move the hydraulic power unit (HPU):
• A fork lift, pallet jack, or overhead crane capable of lifting the HPU
• Lifting slings—not chains—and a spreader bar to lift the HPU from its
pallet
General Considerations
• The HPU should be placed on a solid and stable floor.
• The room dimensions must accommodate the HPU.
• Ensure that there is adequate space surrounding the pump to allow all
panels and covers to be opened.
• Some service procedures require the pump motor to be removed from
the HPU case. Provide overhead height at least equal to the height of
your lifting device plus the height of your HPU. See “HPU
Dimensions” on page 4 for specific model heights.
• Provide sufficient clearance for moving a pump through a door, hallway,
and so forth. See “HPU Dimensions” on page 4.
• Refer to your local electrical codes for the required free space surrounding
the HPU.
• Placement considerations should include proximity to the facility electric
power and the hydraulic components. Positioning the HPU close to the
hydraulic components can reduce the cost of hydraulic distribution.
• The path to the HPU should be clear and uncluttered, with all hoses and
cables neatly organized.
• The area where the HPU sits should be clean and well lit.
• The HPU can be moved by a forklift, pallet jack, or over head crane capable
of lifting the weight of the HPU.

Lift and Move the HPU
WARNING

1. Unpack the HPU.
The HPU is crated and shipped on a wooden pallet.
A. Remove the shipping container (if used).
B. Remove the bolts from the wooden beams clamping the HPU to the
pallet.
C. Remove any packing straps or bolts as needed.
2. Inspect the HPU for shipping damage. Look for the following:
• Scratches in the HPU finish
• Damaged electrical connections
• Damaged hydraulic connections
• Dents and other structural damage
• Torn, kinked, or breaking hoses
Report any damage found to both the carrier and MTS.
3. Determine where the HPU will be located. Because it is connected to the
other hydraulic equipment through hydraulic lines, you can optimize the
HPU location.
The HPU is extremely heavy.
Improper handling of the HPU can seriously hurt you and damage the HPU.
Ensure that your chains, slings, forklift, pallet jack, and crane have a working
capacity greater than the HPU’s weight. See “HPU Weights” on page 4 for
individual HPU model weights. Do not allow the HPU to drop.
4. Find the balance point of the HPU.
A. With someone else steadying the HPU, slightly lift the HPU to ensure
that you have found its balance point. Adjust the slings or other lifting
device until you find the balance point.
05.07/.11/.20/.30—Use a forklift, pallet jack, or overhead crane with
lifting straps. Verify your equipment has the capacity for the HPU.

5. Lift the HPU only as high as necessary and move it slowly to its installation

Note Ensure that the HPU remains stable during the entire moving procedure.
6. Gently lower the HPU onto the floor in its final location.
