Proper use

This dishwasher complies with current safety requirements. Inappropriate use can, however, lead to personal injury and damage to property.

To avoid the risk of accidents and damage to the dishwasher, please read these instructions carefully before using it for the first time. They contain important information on its safety, installation, use and maintenance. Keep these instructions in a safe place and pass them on to any future owner.

This dishwasher with its short program running times and powerful cleaning performance is intended for commercial use in office kitchens, clubhouses, small businesses, active kitchens and other similar commercial environments.

It is also suitable for use in domestic households and in similar residential environments, for example, by customers in hotels, motels, bed and breakfast and other related establishments.

The commercial dishwasher is subsequently referred to as a dishwasher in these operating instructions.

Glasses, cutlery and dishes are referred to generally as cookware when not more specifically defined.

This dishwasher is not intended for continuous use.

This dishwasher is not suitable for cleaning medical products.

This machine is designed exclusively for use as a “dishwasher” for cleaning dishes, glassware and cutlery as described in these instructions. Any other use, conversions and modifications are not permitted and could be dangerous.

Miele cannot be held liable for damage resulting from incorrect or improper use or operation.

This dishwasher is intended for stationary, indoor use only.

The special inserts are to be used for their specific purpose only.

This dishwasher can only be used by people with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities, or lack of experience or knowledge, if they are supervised whilst using it or have been shown how to use it in a safe way.

6

Proper use

This dishwasher is supplied with a special bulb to cope with particular conditions (e.g., temperature, moisture, chemical resistance, abrasion resistance and vibration). This special bulb must only be used for the purpose for which it is intended, i.e. to illuminate the wash chamber. It is not suitable for room lighting. Replacement of bulbs may only be carried out by a Miele-authorized technician.

7

Important safety instructions

Proper installation

Do not install the machine in an area where a danger of explosion or of freezing temperatures may be present.

Be careful when installing the dishwasher. Wear protective gloves to avoid injury on any sharp metal components.

To ensure the stability of undercounter dishwashers, these units may only be installed beneath a continuous countertop that is bolted to adjacent cabinetry.

In order to reduce the risk of damage from condensation, the furniture in the area around the dishwasher should be designed for commercial use.

The door springs must be evenly adjusted on both sides. They are correctly adjusted when the door remains stationary when left half open (approx. 45° opening angle). It is also important that the door cannot fall open. The dishwasher must only be operated with properly adjusted door springs.

Technical safety

Installation and repair work should be performed by a qualified and trained service technician in accordance with local and national safety regulations. Work by unqualified persons could be dangerous and may void the warranty.

This dishwasher must only be operated by appropriately trained personnel. They must be instructed and trained regularly.

Before using the dishwasher, check it for any externally visible damage. Do not use a damaged dishwasher. This could be dangerous.

In the event of a damaged or leaking dishwasher, switch off at the mains immediately and call Miele Customer Service, a Miele dealer, or a suitably qualified service technician.

8

Important safety instructions

Faulty components may only be replaced by genuine Miele original parts. Only when these parts are fitted can Miele guarantee the safety standards of the appliance.

The electrical safety of this dishwasher can only be guaranteed when correctly grounded. If in any doubt, please have the electrical installation tested by a qualified electrician. Miele cannot be held liable for the consequences of an inadequate grounding system (e.g., electric shock).

Be sure to follow the installation instructions in this manual and in the installation diagram.

Ensure that the connection data on the data plate (voltage, frequency, and fuse rating) match those of your electrical supply.

WARNING - Fire hazard! Do not cover or crush the plug of the appliance. Ensure that the cabinet opening for the dishwasher provides ample space for the plug and cord. Installing the dishwasher in a tight space may crimp the power cord or put pressure on it. See “Electrical connection”.

Do not use an extension cord to connect this machine to electricity. Extension cords do not guarantee the required safety of the machine (e.g., danger of overheating).

Do not open the casing of the dishwasher. Any contact with live connections or tampering with the electrical or mechanical components of the dishwasher will endanger your safety and may lead to machine malfunctions.

The dishwasher must not be used if the electrical connection cable is damaged. A damaged connection cable may only be replaced by a specific connection cable of the same type. For safety reasons, such replacement may only be carried out by a qualified service technician.

Before servicing the appliance, disconnect it from the power supply.

9

Important safety instructions

The plastic housing of the water connection contains electrical components. It must not be dipped in water.

There are live wires in the water intake hose. Do not shorten the water intake hose, even if it is too long.

The built-in Waterproof system offers reliable protection against water damage if the following conditions are met:

Installation has been carried out correctly

The dishwasher is properly maintained and parts are replaced in case of noticeable damage

The faucet has been turned off during longer absences (for example, vacation).

The Waterproof system will work even when the dishwasher is switched off. However, the dishwasher must remain connected to the electricity supply.

10

Important safety instructions

Correct use

This dishwasher is designed for operation with water and cleaning agents suitable for use in dishwashers only. Organic solvents and flammable liquid agents must not be used.

This could cause an explosion, damage rubber or plastic components in the dishwasher and cause liquids to leak out of it.

Only use cleaning agents formulated for use in dishwashers. Unsuitable cleaning agents could adversely affect components of the dishwasher or the items being cleaned.

You could injure yourself on the open dishwasher door or trip over it. Avoid leaving the door open unnecessarily.

Do not sit, stand, or lean on the opened door. This could tip or damage the dishwasher.

After any plumbing work, the water pipework to the dishwasher will need to be vented. If this is not done, components can be damaged.

Please be aware that the dishwasher may be operating at high temperatures. When the door is opened there is a danger of burning or scalding. Dishes, cutlery, baskets, and inserts must be allowed to cool down before they are unloaded. Any water remaining in containers could still be very hot. Empty them into the wash chamber before taking them out.

The water in the wash cabinet is NOT safe to drink!

The pretreatment of items (for example with dishwashing liquid and other detergents), but also some types of soiling and some detergents, can cause a build-up of foam in the wash cabinet. Foam can have an adverse effect on the cleaning result.

Foam escaping from the wash chamber can cause damage to the dishwasher. If foam escapes, the program must be canceled immediately and the dishwasher must be disconnected from the mains electrical supply.

11

Important safety instructions

When using detergents and specialized products, it is essential that the manufacturer's instructions are followed. Detergents must only be used for the purpose they are designed for and in the situation specified, to avoid material damage and serious chemical reactions (e.g. oxyhydrogen explosion).

Do not inhale or ingest powder detergent. Dishwasher detergents contain irritant or corrosive ingredients which can cause burning in the nose, mouth and throat if swallowed, or inhibit breathing. Seek medical attention immediately if detergent has been swallowed or inhaled.

Miele cannot be held liable for any effect chemical detergents may have on the material of the items being cleaned. Observe the detergent manufacturer's instructions with regard to storage conditions, use, and dosage.

To avoid material damage and corrosion, do not allow any acids or solutions containing chloride to get into the wash cabinet. Similarly avoid any materials with a corrosive effect.

Do not wash items soiled with ash, sand, wax, lubricating grease, or paint in the dishwasher. These materials will cause damage to the dishwasher.

Do not clean the dishwasher or its near vicinity with a hose or a pressure washer.

Ensure that the stainless steel outer casing of the appliance does not come into contact with solutions or steam containing acid to avoid any corrosion damage.

Be careful when sorting items with sharp pointed ends and positioning them in the dishwasher so that you do not hurt yourself or create a danger for others. Cutlery should be placed in baskets in such a way that no injuries can occur.

Remove any coarse food deposits from the items being cleaned before loading them in the dishwasher.

12

Important safety instructions

Children in the vicinity

Children should be supervised in the vicinity of the dishwasher. Never allow children to play with the dishwasher. There is a danger that children might shut themselves in the dishwasher.

Children must be kept away from the dishwasher unless they are constantly supervised.

If the automatic door opening mechanism is active, keep young children away from the area in which the door opens. There is a danger of injury in the unlikely event of a fault with the opening mechanism.

Keep children away from process chemicals. These contain ingredients which can cause burning in the mouth or throat, or inhibit breathing. Keep children away from the dishwasher when the door is open. There could still be residual process chemicals in the dishwasher. Seek medical advice immediately if a child has swallowed or inhaled any process chemicals.

Accessories

Accessories may only be fitted if approved by Miele. If other parts are used, any warranty and product liability claims shall be void.

Miele cannot be held liable for damage caused by failure to comply with these safety instructions and warnings.

17

Caring for the environment

Energy-saving dishwashing

This dishwasher is exceptionally economical in its use of water and electricity.

You can make the most of your machine by following these tips:

Make full use of the baskets without overloading the dishwasher. This results in the most economical dishwashing.

Choose a program that best suits the degree of soiling and the type of dishes being washed.

Select the ECO program for energysaving dishwashing. This program is the most efficient in terms of its combined energy and water consumption for cleaning dishes with a normal level of soiling.

Follow the detergent manufacturer's recommendations on detergent dosage.

When using powder or liquid deter-

1

gent, you can use /3 less detergent if baskets are only half full.

18

Initial commissioning

Opening the door

At the end of programs with a drying phase (see “Program overview”), the door will open automatically a little in order to help the drying process.

This function can be deactivated if preferred (see “Settings menu - AutoOpen”).

Closing the door

Push the baskets in.

Then lift the door upwards and push until it clicks into position.

Danger of crushing injuries!

Do not put your hand inside the door as it is closing.

If you have selected DisplayOn, confirm the message about higher energy consumption with OK.

20

Initial commissioning

Water hardness

The display changes to the screen for setting the water hardness.

The dishwasher must be programmed to the correct water hardness for your area.

Your local water authority will be able to advise you of the water hardness level in your area.

Where the water hardness fluctuates, e.g., between 10 - 16 gpg (10 -15 °d), always program the dishwasher to the higher value (16 gpg in this example).

It is useful to know your water hardness so that you can provide the service technician with this information in the event of any service calls.

Enter the water hardness below:

____________ gpg

The dishwasher is programmed at the factory for a water hardness level of 1 gpg (1 °d).

Use the arrow buttons to select the hardness of your water supply and confirm with OK.

See “Settings menu, Water hardness” for more information on setting the water hardness.

Finally, the notes Miele@home enabled

and Set up complete will appear in the display.

After confirming these notes with OK,

the messages Refill salt and Refill

rinse aid may appear.

Add salt and rinse aid if necessary (see “Before using for the first time – Dishwasher salt” and “Rinse aid”).

Confirm the notes with OK.

The program selected will appear in the display briefly and the indicator light for the program selected will come on.

The display will then show the estimated program duration for the program selected.

These basic settings will be saved after the dishwasher has been through one complete program.

21

Initial commissioning

Before using the machine for

the first time, you require:

approx. 2 L of water,

approx. 4.4 lb of dishwasher salt,

detergent for commercial dishwashers,

rinse aid for commercial dishwashers.

Suitable products are available from Miele Professional.

Every dishwasher is tested at the factory. There will be residual water in the machine from this test. It is not an indication that the dishwasher has been used previously.

Dishwasher salt

In order to achieve good cleaning results, the dishwasher needs to operate with soft water. Hard water results in the build-up of calcium deposits on cookware and on the inner surfaces of the machine.

Mains water with a hardness level higher than 4 gpg (4 °d) must be softened. This occurs automatically in the integrated water softener. The water softener is suitable for a water hardness level of up to 38 gpg (36 °d).

The water softener requires dishwasher salt.

If the water in your area is very soft and constantly lower than 5 gpg

(5 °d), you do not need to add dishwasher salt. The salt refill indicator is switched off automatically.

Dishwasher detergent will damage the softener assembly.

Do not fill the salt compartment with dishwasher detergent (including liquid detergent).

Use only special, coarse-grained dishwasher salt or other pure kitchen salt.

Other types of salt may contain insoluble components which can cause the water softener to malfunction.

Suitable products are available from Miele Professional.

22

Initial commissioning

Filling the salt reservoir

Important! Before filling the salt reservoir with dishwasher salt for the first time, you must fill it with approx. 2 L of water to enable the salt to dissolve.

Once the dishwasher has been used for the first time, there is always sufficient water in the reservoir.

Remove the lower basket from the wash chamber and unscrew the salt reservoir cap.

Water or brine will run out of the reservoir when the cap is removed. It should therefore only be removed in order to refill the salt reservoir.

Fill the reservoir with approx. 2 L of water (first use only).

Place the provided funnel over the salt reservoir and carefully fill with dishwasher salt until the reservoir is full. The salt reservoir holds approx. 4.4 lb of salt, depending on the type of salt.

Clean any excess salt from around the reservoir opening and then screw the cap on again firmly.

Run the Rinse & Hold program without a load immediately after having filled the reservoir with salt in order to dilute any brine which may have overflowed and have it pumped away.

23

Initial commissioning

Salt refill indicator

Fill the salt reservoir with dishwasher salt when Refill salt appears in the display.

Confirm with OK.

The salt refill indicator will go out.

Danger of corrosion!

Run the Cold pre-rinse program without a load immediately after having filled the reservoir with salt in order to dilute any brine which may have overflowed and have it pumped away.

After the salt reservoir has been filled, the refill reminder may still appear in the display if the salt concentration has not yet reached the correct level. In this case, still confirm the message with OK.

The salt refill indicator will be turned off if you have programmed the dishwasher for a water hardness below 5 gpg (5 °d).

If you do not want the refill reminders to appear, you can switch off both refill reminders for salt and rinse aid if you wish (see “Settings menu – Switching off the refill reminders”).

24

Initial commissioning

Rinse aid

Adding rinse aid

Rinse aid is necessary to ensure water does not cling and leave marks on cookware during the drying phase, and helps cookware dry faster after it has been washed.

Rinse aid is poured into the storage reservoir and the amount set is dispensed automatically.

Fill the reservoir with rinse aid for commercial dishwashers only. Do not fill it with washing-up liquid or cleaning agent.

This would damage the rinse aid reservoir.

Suitable products are available from Miele Professional.

Alternatively, it is possible to use

household vinegar with a max. 5 % acid content

or

liquid citric acid with up to 10 % acid content.

The resulting rinsing and drying quality will not, however, be as good as when rinse aid is used.

Do not use vinegar with a higher acid content (e.g., vinegar essence with 25 % acid).

This could damage the dishwasher.

Press the button on the lid of the rinse aid reservoir in the direction of the arrow until the flap springs open.

25

Initial commissioning

Add rinse aid only until it is visible in the opening.

The rinse aid reservoir holds approx.

3.7oz. (110 ml).

Close the flap firmly so that it clicks into place. Otherwise water can enter the rinse aid reservoir during a program.

Wipe up any spilled rinse aid. This prevents over-foaming occurring during the next program.

You can adjust the rinse aid dosage for best results (see “Settings menu - Rinse aid”).

Rinse aid indicator

When the Refill rinse aid message appears in the display, the reservoir contains sufficient rinse aid for 2 – 3 programs only.

Add rinse aid in plenty of time.

Confirm with OK.

The rinse aid refill indicator will go out.

If you do not want the refill reminders to appear, you can switch off both refill reminders for salt and rinse aid if you wish (see “Settings menu – Switching off the refill reminders”).

26

Loading the dishwasher

Tips

Remove coarse food residues from the dishes.

There is no need to rinse items under running water!

Do not wash items soiled with ash, sand, wax, grease, or paint in the dishwasher. These will damage the dishwasher.

Dishes can be loaded anywhere in the baskets, but the following notes should be observed:

Do not place dishes or cutlery inside other pieces. They will cover each other.

Load the dishes so that water can access all surfaces. This ensures that they get properly cleaned.

Make sure that all items are securely positioned.

Hollow items such as cups, glasses, pans, etc. must be inverted in the basket.

Tall, narrow, hollow items, e.g., champagne glasses, should be placed in the center of the basket to ensure better water coverage.

Concave items such as mugs or bowls should be placed at an angle so that the water can run off.

The spray arms must not be blocked by items which are too tall or hang through the baskets. If in doubt, test for free movement by manually rotating the spray arms.

Make sure that small items cannot fall through the holders in the baskets.

Small items, e.g., lids, should therefore be placed in the cutlery tray or cutlery basket (depending on model).

Some foods may contain natural dyes, e.g., carrots, tomatoes or tomato sauce. Plastic items in the dishwasher may discolor if large quantities of these foodstuffs find their way into the dishwasher on the dishes. The stability of plastic items is not affected by this discoloration. Cleaning silver cutlery in the dishwasher may also cause plastic items to discolor.

27

Loading the dishwasher

Items not recommended for dishwashing

Wooden cutlery, cutting boards and dishes or items with wooden parts

Craft items, antiques, valuable vases, and decorative glassware

Plastic items which are not heat-re- sistant: the high temperatures in the dishwasher may cause them to melt or lose shape.

Copper, brass, tin and aluminum items may discolor or become matt.

Colors painted over a glaze may fade after a number of washes.

Delicate glassware and glassware containing lead crystal: clouding may occur over time.

Please note:

Silverware previously cleaned with a silver polish may still be damp or spotted at the end of a program, where water has not run off smoothly. It may need to be rubbed dry with a soft cloth.

Silver which has been in contact with foods containing sulphur can discolor. These include egg yolk, onions, mayonnaise, mustard, fish, and marinades.

Aluminum components (e.g., range hood grease filters) must not be cleaned with a commercial or industrial cleaning agent.

These may damage the material.

Tip: When purchasing new dishes and cutlery, make sure they are dishwashersafe.

Glass care

Clouding may occur on glasses after frequent washing. When washing delicate glassware in the dishwasher, ensure that only a special glass-care program with very low temperatures is selected (see Program guide). This will reduce the risk of clouding.

Purchase glassware which is dish- washer-safe (e.g., Riedel glassware).

Use detergents with glass protective additives.
