Self-contained
CMOS Laser Sensor
LR-ZB250AN/ZB250AP
Example 1)
The object is close to the
reference surface.
Recommended
The object is closer to the sensor.
Supplemental Manual
The "I-DATUM (F-2) mode" for the LR-Z Series memorizes the "Light receiving pattern" the
background as a reference surface and detects any changes of the reference surface.
The display value indicates the degree of Consistency of "Light receiving pattern" between
the reference surface and the detected object. After setting the reference surface, the
displayed value is calibrated toi100. When detecting an object, the value decreases as
the degree of Consistency with the reference surface becomes lower. Lower values allow
for more stable detection.
This supplemental manual explains the installation method and calibration necessary to
detect transparent objects using the "I-DATUM (F-2) mode".
Recommended installation
1. Reference surface
The following background surfaces are recommended for stable detection.
• Matte finished
• Fixed with less vibration
• Dry with no dirt or dust bulid-up
2. Distance between sensor and reference surface
The recommended distance between sensor and reference surface is 70 to 150 mm.
3. Position of the object to be detected
For stable detection, put the sensor as close as possible to the object to be detected and
also keep it as far away as possible from the reference surface.
4. Beam axis of the sensor
Tilt the beam axis of the sensor as much as possible against the reference surface.
(10° or more)
Example 2)
The sensor is far
from the object.
The sensor is closer
to the object.
Setting procedure
1. Switch the mode.
Switch the operation mode of LR-Z to "I-DATUM (F-2)".
Press and hold the [DOWN] button for 3 seconds or
more.
Press the [UP] button and [Down] button at the
same time.
Press the [UP] button.
Recommended
Reference
surface
Separate as far
apart as possible.
10° or more
Move as close
as possible.
70 to 150 mm
Tilt the beam axis
downward.
It can also be tilted to the
right or left.
10° or more
Press the [UP] button to switch the operation mode to “I-DATUM (F-2)
mode”.
Press and hold the [DOWN] button for 3 seconds or
more to complete the setting.
With the “I-DATUM (F-2) mode”, the left end of 7
segment display will always illuminate.
Set the reference surface next.

2. Setting the reference surface.
After setting the operation mode to "I-DATUM (F-2) mode", set the background as the
reference surface.
There are two setting methods.
• Standard tuning
• High sensitivity tuning
The high sensitivity tuning can detect more subtle changes than the
standard tuning. However, it may result in instability due to
Point
background vibration or dirt builid-up. For this reason, it is
recommended to try the standard tuning first.
3. Adjust the setting as necessary.
If stable detection is not achieved, make additional settings.
If malfunction occurs when detecting the object
If malfunction occurs when detecting the object (Detection is not possible), perform the
"High sensitivity tuning".
z High sensitivity tuning
z Standard tuning
Press the [SET] button briefly.
“set” and “---” appear alternately on
the display.
Press and hold the [SET] button for 3
seconds or more. When “set” blinks on
the display, release the button.
When the [DTM] indicator and [1 spot]
indicator light up, the setting is complete.
Check if the object is stably detected.
Press and hold the [SET] button for 3 seconds
or more.
When “set” blinks on the display, release the
button.
When the [1 spot] indicator lights up, the setting
is complete. (The [DTM] indicator will not
illuminate.) Check if the object is stably
detected.
If malfunction occurs when detecting the background
(reference surface)
z Adjustment 1: Lower the setting value.
Press the [UP] button briefly.
Press the [UP] button and [DOWN] button to
adjust the value blinking on the display. Once
the setting are complete, the sensor will return
to normal operation after 3 seconds of inactivity.
If the [DTM] indicator does not illuminate, perform the tuning again.
If the [1 spot] indicator is off, the background has not been stably
Point
detected. Check the installation conditions and perform the tuning
again. Setting "Response time" to "50 ms" may also help.
z Adjustment 2: Set the "Delay timer".
Press and hold the [DOWN] button for 3 seconds
or more.
Press the [DOWN] button briefly.
Press the [UP] button briefly.
