Zero Extra Cost to Convert Stand-alone APs into a Centralized WLAN

ZyXEL NWA-3160 Business Wireless Access Point is the first hybrid AP in its category that can act as a

stand-alone enterprise class AP and/or WLAN controller at the same time. The hybrid AP has full flexibility

for small- to medium-sized enterprises to deploy secure and reliable WLAN networks. In the initial phase

of constructing a WLAN, the NWA-3160 can be configured as a fully functional stand-alone AP; when more

APs are installed, the NWA-3160 can be set to the WLAN controller mode to manage all other access

points. Moreover, when a new branch office is set up, one of the managed NWA-3160 can become another

controller and to manage a separate WLAN network.

Simplifying the Maintenance Efforts for a Quality WLAN

The NWA-3160 can centrally manage 8 other WLAN access points, including the dual-band NWA-3160,

dual-band and dual-radio NWA-3500, high power NWA-3163 and outdoor dual-radio NWA3550. The

supprt to a wide range of managed access point enables network administrators to choose the best AP for

desired applications, while the management interface reminiscing single AP also helps network

administrators to easily oversee all the WLAN access points, even they are not on the same site.

Enterprise-class Design for Reliable and Scalable Wi-Fi Networks

The NWA-3160 Hybrid AP meets the security and high availability demanded by enterprises as all

communications between the Hybrid AP and managed AP are performed in a secured tunnel. Since no

configuration data is stored on the managed AP, sensitive setup information will not be exposed even if

the AP is stolen. The Hybrid AP also provides the scalability to manage APs across different networks.

Optimized WLAN Throughput

Throughput optimization, another major WLAN concern, is also addressed in the ZyXEL Hybrid AP

solution. The NWA-3160 keeps optimizing the channel designation of the managed AP in order to avoid

interferences and to provide better WLAN system throughput.
