VLANOverview

VirtualLocalAreaNetwork(VLAN)isatechnologythatdividesa physicalnetworkintomultiplelogical(virtual)LAN.EveryVLAN hasaVLANidentier(VID).
TakingadvantageofVLANtechnology,networkadministratorscan dividetheusersinthesamephysicalLANintodifferentbroadcast domains(onebroadcastdomainisoneVLAN).Thisensuresthat theuserswiththesamedemandsbelongtosamebroadcastdomainanduserswithdifferentdemandsbelongtodifferentbroadcastdomain.
EveryVLANislikeanindependentlogicalLAN,havingthesame attributeswithphysicalLAN.Allbroadcastandunicasttrafcinthe sameVLANarerestrictedtotheVLANinsteadofbeingforwarded tootherVLAN.CommunicationbetweendevicesbelongingtodifferentVLANisforwardedbytheLayer3routers.
VLANhasthefollowingfeatures:
Reducingbroadcasttrafcinthenetwork
Enhancingnetworksecurity
Simplifyingnetworkmanagementandcontrol

VLANType

VLANtypeisdeterminedbythemethoddividingareceivedframe toaspecicVLAN.ZXR108900seriesswitchsupportsport-based VLAN,whichisthemostsimpleandeffectivemethod.Itassigns portsofswitchingequipmenttodifferentVLANs;consequently, thetrafcreceivedfromtheportbelongstotheVLANconnected totheport.
