Do not expose the device to rain and never use it in a
• humid or wet environment. Check the device and all parts for visible damages.
• Should the device become damaged, immediately remove the plug from the wall socket. Then arrange for the device to be checked by Customer Services.
Risk of electric shocks.
Connect the device only to electrical wall sockets supplying a • mains voltage of 230-240 V ~ / 50 Hz. Do not operate the appliance if the power cable, the plug
• or the device itself are damaged. Arrange for defective power cables and plugs to be repaired or exchanged as soon as possible by Customer Services. You must not open the device housing or attempt to repair
• the device yourself. There are no user-serviceable elements
inside. Should you do so, device safety can no longer be
assured and the warranty will become void. NEVER submerse the device in water. Wipe it only with a
• slightly damp cloth. Protect the product from moisture. Use it only in dry rooms,
• do not use it outdoors or close to liquids. Take steps to ensure that neither the device nor the mains
• adaptor can be damaged, or become wet or moist, during
use.
Do not place objects containing uids, e.g. ower vases,
on or near the device.
Notice regarding power disconnection:
• To completely disconnect the device from mains power, the plug MUST be removed from the power socket. For
this reason, the appliance should be placed at a location
where unobstructed access to the power socket is assured at all times, so that you are able to immediately remove the plug in the event of an emergency. To exclude the risk of re, unintentional switch-on and to save energy costs, the mains adaptor should always be disconnected from the power socket when the device is not in use. When disconnecting the device, always take hold of the
• plug itself. Do not pull on the cable itself and NEVER touch the plug with wet hands, as this could result in a short circuit or you receiving an electric shock. Do not place the device, furniture or anything else on the power cable and ensure that it cannot become clamped or trapped. Never tie knots in the power cable, and do not join it to other cables. Lay the power cable and, if need be, the headphone and microphone cables, so that no one can step on or trip over them. A damaged power cable can cause a re or an electrical shock. Check the power cable from time to time. Should it become damaged, contact your nearest authorised customer service centre or your dealer to have
it replaced.
Should a storm and/or thunderstorm with the risk of lightning
• threaten, please disconnect the device from the mains power.
Please read the safety instructions
Do not permit children to handle electrical devices without • supervision, they cannot correctly assess the potential risks of injury. NEVER submerse the device in water. Wipe it only with a
• slightly damp cloth.
 Riskofre!
Do not use the device near hot surfaces. Do not operate or store the device in hot locations and do
not subject the device to direct sunlight or strong articial light sources. Otherwise, it may overheat and become irreparably damaged.
- 2 -
Do not place open re sources, such as candles, on the
device.
Do not leave the device unattended at any time when it is
in use.
To avoid overheating, NEVER cover the ventilation slots on
• the device and NEVER use the appliance under coverings of any kind. Should the device be moved from a cold ambience to a
• warm one (e.g. during/after transportion), condensation may form in the interior. To avoid potential damage, the device should be switched on at the earliest after a minimum standtime of 2 hours.
 Riskofpersonalinjury!
Provide a stable location for the device. Do not operate the device if it has sustained a fall or is
damaged. Arrange for the device to be checked and/or repaired by qualied technicians. Listening to music with head or earphones for long periods
• and at high volume levels can lead to hearing damage! For your own protection, we recommend that you do not adjust
the sound level too high. The output voltage at the head-
phone socket can lie between over 150 mV and up to 864 mV, and can thus create a sound volume that is harmful for
your hearing.
This device is not intended for use by individuals (including
• children) with restricted physical, physiological or intellectual abilities or deciencies in experience and/or knowledge
unless they are supervised by a person responsible for
their safety or receive from this person instruction in how
the device is to be used. Children should be supervised to
ensure that they do not play with the device.
 Riskofeyeinjuries!
The device is tted with a "Class 1 Laser". Never look • directly into an open CD tray The invisible laser beam could damage your eyes.
 CAUTION!
Information on surge voltage (EFT / rapid electrical transition process) and Electrostatic discharge:
In the case of a malfunction due to rapid electrical transition (surge voltage) or electrostatic discharge the product must be reset (it may be necessary to disconnect the power source and then reconnect it) to restore normal operation.
Note: A case of electrostatic discharge occurs if one walks with plastic-soled shoes over a carpet that also contains elements of plastic. Through the friction of the shoe soles on the carpet a charge is created in the body which discharges itself as soon as one touches an electricity conducting object, such as for example a door knob or the bodywork of a motor vehicle. Thereby, it is sucient to approach the conductor to within only a few cm. Direct contact is not required to eect a
discharge. The charge can also reduce itself over an electrical arc. A discharge is thus also possible through plastic hous-
ing components.
Note: This device is equipped with non-slip rubber pads. As upper surfaces can be made of various materials and are treated with various cleaning materials, it cannot be completely excluded that some of these materials contain components that could attack and soften the rubber pads.
If possible place an anti-slip material under the pads of the
device.
Riskofsuocation!
Do not leave packaging material lying unattended. Plastic
foils and bags and pieces of styropor etc. are not toys, they
can be dangerous for small children.
Observe copyright laws
When recording CDs, pay heed to the laws regarding copyright that are applicable in the country in which the device is
being used.

Setting the sound quality
Echo effect
Vocal music can be modied through an Echo eect. The Echo eect can be increased by turning the controller ECHO clockwise in the direction MAX, and reduced by turning it anti-clockwise in the direction MIN.
Balance
The left and right channels are played back simultaneously over the built in loudspeakers. Playback of both microphones takes place over the right channel.
Through adjustment of the controller BAL you can modify the relationship between the music and the microphone-vocal. Turning it in the direction R reduces the music volume level in relationship to the microphone-vocal level. Turning it in the direction L reduces the microphone-vocal level.
In headphone operation a clear modication takes place between the left and right channels, and vice versa.
Auto Voice Control
In the playback of CDGs (see CD operation/CD+G) the music on the CD is blended out automatically as soon as someone sings into the microphone. When the singing into the microphone stops, the music is automatically blended back in.Using the controller AVC you can, in combination with the controller BAL, balance out the proportions of the playback and the volume level of the microphone.
X-Bass
Switching on the X-Bass function amplies the sound of the basses. Incorporate or eliminate this function by pressing the switch X-BASS on or o.
- 4 -
Pitch
When playing back a cassette, you can increase or reduce the playback speed and thus tune it in to the voice. For this, turn the controller PITCH in the direction MIN resp. MAX.
Using headphones
On the - output of the karaoke machine you can connect a headphone with a 3.5 mm jack plug (not supplied). When you have connected the headphones, the built-in loudspeaker is disconnected and you will only hear sound through the head-
phones.
Important! Listening to music with headphones for
long periods and at high sound volume levels can lead to hearing damage!
CD Operation
The device plays audio CDs (CD-A) and CD+G.Not only commercially pressed but also CD-R blanks "burnt" on a home computer are supported. Because of the many dierent kinds of blank discs, computer types, operating systems, burning software and burning processes we are not able to guarantee that every "burnt" disc will playback faultlessly. Not always readable are CDs that have been produced for the commercial eld.
Interaction with CDs
Every CD is enclosed within a hard-wearing plastic coating that protects it from external inuences. Nonetheless, you must still always protect the CD against soiling and scratches. CD players can balance out minor damage on the CD. Large scratches or other damages can lead to "hangers" or similar malfunctions. For details of the correct interaction with CDs, take heed of the notices on the CD sleeve!
CD+G
CD+G (CD + Graphics, also CDG) is an Audio CD which contains additional data, such as song texts and/or images, that is displayed on the screen simultaneously with the music.
Audio CDs with copy protection
As one can learn from the press, the music industry has developed various copy protection processes to defend
itself from pirate copies. Unfortunately, not all companies
have yet agreed on a universal standard, thus they continually
develop new processes or modify the existing ones. These newly released Audio CDs then no longer conform to the normal Audio CD Standard, and it therefore becomes dicult for the manufacturers of CD players to ensure that their devices can assimilate all of the latest copy protection methods.
In individual cases it can even happen that a few copy-protected Audio CDs cannot be played back. To eliminate the
possibility of a defect on the device, please test it using an
older Audio CD without copy protection. The trade press advises returning copy-protected CDs back to the trade if they cause playback problems, or to ask for an Audio CD without copy protection.

Operating the cassette player/recorder
The correct cassette
Exclusively suitable are Audio Compact Cassettes of the
• type Normal (FE Tape). Ideally, utilise cassettes with a length of 60 or 90 minutes.
• Longer tapes are typically made of thinner material and are more likely to be caught up in the tape transport mechanism. Always store cassettes in their cases. Otherwise, the lightly
• magnetic tape attracts dust particles from the air and these can then become deposited on the tape heads during playback. Protect cassettes from strong magnetic elds and high
• temperatures. Do not store them close to television sets, loudspeakers and the heating. The tape could be erased, stick together or tear.
Insertion and playback of cassettes
Switch the device on and select the operating mode. For
>
this, slide the switch FUNCTION into the position "TAPE". To open the cassette compartment, press the button
> .
Insert the cassette with the open side facing downwards. > Gently close the cassette compartment.
>
Start playback with the button
> 4.
Starting, Stopping, Interrupting, Rewinding
Important!
To take care of both the mechanics in the drive mechanism and the tape material itself, do not switch directly from forward or reverse rewind into playback, instead, rst stop the tape with
the button
.
Interrupting playback: Press the button > ; twice. Continue playback: Press the button
> ; once again.
Reverse rewinding: Press button
> 7. The cassette stops
automatically at the tape start, but the drive mechanism is not switched o.
Forward rewinding: Press button
> 8. The cassette stops
automatically at the tape end, but the drive mechanism is not switched o.
Stop playback: Press button
> .
Note:
On playback and record the cassette stops at the end of the tape and automatically switches the drive mechanism o.
Preparation for recording
Recording is only possible if the write protect notches of the cassette to be recorded on are closed.
With new cassttes the write protect
notches are closed. After the recording you can protect the
cassette against unintentional re-record-
ing by carefully breaking out the tongues in the write protect notches with a sharp object (screwdriver, naille). Should you want to make a recording on
• a write protected cassette, simply cover the open write protect notches with a
piece of adhesive tape. Ensure that the adhesive tape cannot loosen itself; if it does, it could get caught up
in the tape transport mechanism.
At the start of the tape there is always a small piece of leader tape. It serves to protect the tape against tearing or stretching after fast rewinds. Recording is not possible on this piece of
tape.
If necessary, close the write protect notches on the
>
cassette.
Inserting a cassette
>
How you proceed next is dened in a section below, called "Recording Karaoke on a cassette".
