1 Specifying network settings

1.1 Displaying the Network Settings screen

Network settings are specified from the Administrator Management screen in Utility mode.
1 Press the [Utility/Counter] key.

Reminder
If items marked with are changed, the machine must be turned off, then on again. When turning the machine off, then on again, wait about 10 seconds to turn the machine on after turning it off. The machine may not operate correctly if it is turned on immediately after being turned off.

DHCP Select whether to automatically retrieve the IP address from the DHCP server or to specify

1 In the Network Settings screen, touch [Basic Settings].
2 Touch [DHCP].
3 Select the method for retrieving the IP address, and then touch [OK].
– If the DHCP server is to be used, touch [Auto Input], and then continue with step 10. – If a fixed IP address is to be used, touch [IP Input], and then continue with step 4.

5 Use the keypad to type in the IP address, and then touch [OK].
– The IP address cannot be specified to begin with "0.", "127.", or a number greater than "224". – To enter a number with less than 3 digits, touch [] to move the cursor to the next number.

7 Use the keypad to type in the subnet mask value, and then touch [OK].
– To enter a number with less than 3 digits, touch [] to move the cursor to the next number.
8 Touch [Gateway].
9 Use the keypad to type in the gateway address, and then touch [OK].
– The IP address cannot be specified to begin with "0.", "127.", or a number greater than "224". – To enter a number with less than 3 digits, touch [] to move the cursor to the next number.

10 Touch [Network Board Set].
11 Select the transmission speed and duplex setting for the network board, and then touch [OK].
– Normally, "Auto" is selected. Select the transmission speed and duplex setting only if transmission
is not performed normally with "Auto" selected. If the transmission speed and duplex setting are not correctly selected, transmission is not possible, or there is a reduction in communication performance.

12 Touching [OK] displays the following screen. To apply the new settings, turn the machine off, then on
again.

Reminder
When turning the machine off, then on again, wait about 10 seconds to turn the machine on after turning it off. The machine may not operate correctly if it is turned on immediately after being turned off.

Parameter Description
DNS Settings Select whether or not DNS (Domain Name System) is used.
Host Name Specify the host name of the machine.
Domain Name Specify the domain name for the DNS server.
DNS Server Address Specify the IP address of the DNS server.
Specifying the settings
If a DNS server is being used in the network, select "YES". If one is not being used, select "NO". If an external server, such as an Internet provider, is being used and the IP address of the mail server is publicly disclosed, select "NO". If only the DNS name of the mail server is publicly disclosed, but the IP address is not publicly disclosed, select "YES". For information on the network environment, consult with the network administrator.
Specify only if "DNS Settings" is set to "YES".

With a comparison of domain names during SMTP reception (IP address fax and IP relay operations), reception from any number of people can be prevented. An IP address fax is received only when the setting for "Self-Domain Name" on the recip­ient's machine matches that specified for "Self-Domain Name" on the sender's machine. An IP relay is received (relayed) only when the setting for "Self-Domain Name" on the re­cipient's machine (relay station) matches that specified for "Domain Name" ("IP Relay Des­tination Registration" in the IP Relay Settings screen) on the sender's machine. If either the recipient's machine or sender's machine is not yet registered, it is considered a match.
