1 Introduction
The 898 XYZ Sample Changer is an XYZ sample changer that is controlled with the tiamo titration software.
The link is established through a USB connection. The device is recognized and managed by the tiamo software as an RS-232 device.
Predefined standard methods are available on the enclosed USB flash drive.
With the aid of the tiamo software, the 898 XYZ Sample Changer can be combined with various analysis devices, thus forming an automation system with high throughput.

2 Installing device drivers and software

The 898 XYZ Sample Changer requires a USB connection to a computer in order to be able to be controlled by a PC software. The device can be con­nected to a USB socket on a computer or to a USB hub with a commer­cially available USB cable (with A and B plugs).
Note
You need administrator rights for the installation of the driver and soft­ware on your PC.
Cable connection and driver installation
A driver installation is required in order to ensure that the 898 XYZ Sample Changer is recognized by the PC operating system. To accomplish this, you must comply with the procedures specified. The following steps are necessary:

Install device drivers
The driver is to be found on the accompanying USB flash drive, in the Driver directory.
Plug in the USB flash drive on the PC. In Windows Explorer, switch to the Driver directory on the USB
flash drive.
Double-click on the CDM20600.exe file name and carry out the
driver installation in accordance with instructions.

Install tiamo
Insert the tiamo
®
installation CD and carry out the installation
program instructions.
Exit the program if you have started it after the installation.

Establish the cable connections
Connect the 898 XYZ Sample Changer to the mains supply if you
have not already done this.
Connect the device to your computer with a USB cable (USB con-
nector Type A), see the manual for your computer.
Use the mains switch on the rear of the device to switch on the
898 XYZ Sample Changer.

If problems should occur during installation, contact your company's IT supporter.
Checking the installation

Open the Windows device manager
In the Windows control panel (possibly under Hardware or Com-
puter management) open the Device manager.
Under Connectors (COM & LPT) find the entry USB Serial
Port.
The 898 XYZ Sample Changer is linked with the virtual serial port that is listed here as (COMX).

device
Although the 898 XYZ Sample Changer is connected to the computer with a USB cable, this is listed in tiamo as a serial RS-232 device. This requires the configuration of the data transfer parameters.
The parameters of the data transfer between the 898 XYZ Sample Changer and the PC must match on the two devices.
Proceed as follows:

Register the 898 XYZ Sample Changer in tiamo
Start the tiamo Click on the symbol Configuration. In the device table, click on [Edit] and select New...

Under Miscellaneous, select the device type RS 232 device
and click on [OK]. The Properties window of the RS-232 device is displayed.
Under Device name, enter the name 898 XYZ SC.

Under Program version, enter the driver version (e.g. 1.4). Under Device serial number, enter the serial number of the 898
XYZ Sample Changer. This is required in order to identify the device unambiguously. The device serial number is to be found on the rear side of the 898 XYZ Sample Changer.

Set the RS-232 parameters
Click the tab RS 232. Under COM Port, enter the connector COMX.
Select the COM port in accordance with the entry in the device manager (see "Checking the installation", page 3).
Enter the following values for the RS-232 parameters.

Click on [Connect].
The dialog window Establish connection is displayed.

In the input field below on the left, enter the command verss and
click on [Send]. Cetac Technologies … must now be displayed as the response
of the device; see below. Among other things, the version num­ber of the device is also transferred. If no text is received, then check the connection cable or install the device driver once again.

Close the dialog window with [OK].
The input fields in the Properties window are now disabled. This means that the connection between the device and the PC has been set up.
Close the properties window with [OK].
Now the 898 XYZ Sample Changer can be actuated via transfer com­mands in a method.

4 Importing methods
The 898 XYZ Sample Changer is accompanied by a USB flash drive on which the tiamo methods for the utilization of the sample changer are stored. These methods must be imported into the software.
Proceed as follows:

Plug in the storage device
Plug the accompanying USB flash drive into a USB port on the
computer.

Open the method manager
In tiamo, click on the symbol for the Method editor. In the Main menu, click on the menu item File ▶ Method
manager....

Select the methods
Click on [Edit] and Import....

Change to the Methods directory on the removable medium
(USB flash drive).
Various tiamo methods are stored in the existing sub-directories, each of which can be applied with a particular sample rack type. In the directory Sample rack 24 x 250 mL, for example, you will find methods for the sample rack for 24 titration vessels of 250 mL each.
Select a sub-directory and click on [Open]. Select the desired methods and click on [Open].
The selected methods are imported and stored in the database.
Exit the method manager with [Close].
The imported methods are now available for use at any time.
