Driver help
Each driver has help screens that can be activated using the Help button, the F1 key, or the question mark symbol in the
upper right corner in the printer driver (depending on the Windows operating system used). These help screens give detailed
information about the specific driver. Printer driver help is separate from the software application help.
Additional drivers
You can obtain the following additional drivers by downloading them from the Internet, or by requesting them from an
HP-authorized ser vice or support provider. See www.hp.com/support/lj9000
NoteIf the required driver is not on the CD or is not listed here, check the software application i nstallation disks or
readme files to see if they include support for the product. If not, contact the software manufacturer or distributor and
request a driver for the product.

The control panel
Overview
The product control panel has a unique touch-screen graphical display that offers an integrated approach to copying, digital
sending, and printing.
The control panel provides you with all the features you expect from a standard photocopier as well as printing and
digital-sending capabilities. The control panel allows you to describe the features of the original document, specify any
necessary modifications to the scanned image, and then select the features you want in the copy. For example, you can
describe the original document as an A4-sized, duplexed, text document, then apply scaling or contrast changes you want in
the copy. You can then select the copy options such as tray and paper size to be used for copying. The graphical display
shows a representative image (page icon) of both your original document and the copy.
In addition, the control panel presents several menus that allow you to set system defaults, customize settings for a particular
job, and store and retrieve printed and scanned jobs.
This chapter introduces the following control panel topics:
Specific control panel functions that pertain to sending, copying, and printing tasks are presented in later chapters.

Digital sending
Overview
The product offers color-scanning and digital-sending capabilities. Using the control panel, you can scan black-and-white or
color documents and send them to an e-mail address as an e-mail attachment. To use digital sending, the product must be
connected to a local area network (LAN). The product connects directly to your LAN (see the start guide for more information
about connecting to a LAN).
NoteThe product cannot copy or print in color, but it can scan and send color images.
This chapter addresses both scanning and sending, because they are fully integrated functions. The following topics are
addressed in this chapter:

zUsing the address book

3 Digital sending30
Digital-sending basics
Introduction to digital sending
Digital sending offers the following benefits:
zSends documents to multiple e-mail addresses, saving time and delivery costs.
zDelivers files in black-and-white or in color. Files can be sent in different file formats that can be manipulated by the
recipient.
zProvides verification that e-mail was properly delivered.
With digital sending, documents are scanned into the product memory and sent to an e-mail address or multiple addresses as
an e-mail attachment. Digital documents can be sent in several graphics formats, such as TIFF and JPEG (See See
“Changing the settings” on page 32.), enabling recipients to manipulate the document file in various programs to meet their
specific needs. Documents arrive in near-original quality, and then can be printed, stored, or forwarded.
The HP Digital Sender Module software offers the additional benefits of sending to a fax machine, authenticating the user for
security purposes, and scanning to a folder.
