FAA-24 ANALOGUE AMPLIFIER
FAA-24 IS A HIGH-PRECISION INDUSTRIAL TRANSMITTER FOR LOAD CELLS.
IT HAS BEEN DESIGNED TO OPERATE PERFECTLY IN ANY AMBIENT CONDITIONS
(FROM –10° TO +50°C). IT IS SUITABLE FOR THE REALISATION OF WEIGHING
SYSTEMS WHERE THE READER IS LOCATED AT SOME DISTANCE FROM THE
MEASURING PLATFORM, OR WHERE THE LOAD CELL SIGNAL SIMPLY NEEDS TO BE
CONVERTED INTO AN OUTPUT INTERFACEABLE WITH ANY ANALOG SIGNAL READER.
THE 24VDC POWER SUPPLY AND THE VERSATILITY PROVIDED WITH THE ZERO AND
SPAN ADJUSTMENT TRIMMERS, AS WELL AS SELECTION OF PRE-TARE AND PRESPAN JUMPERS, MAKES IT A FLEXIBLE COMPONENT SUITABLE POR ALL
CONDITIONS AND AT REASONABLE COST. THE TAINLESS STEEL HOUSING OFFERS
THE IDEAL SOLUTION FOR INDUSTRIAL APPLICATIONS WITH IP65 PROTECTION.
Calibration Instruction
1. CARD PREPARATION
TO CALIBRATE THE CARD, THE FOLLOWING IS REQUIRED:
• DIGITAL MULTIMETER WITH MA READING WITH A RESOLUTION OF AT
LEAST 0.01 MA.
• SAMPLE WEIGHT CORRESPONDING TO AT LEAST 50% OF THE CELL CAPACITY
OR THE TOTAL WEIGHT MEASURED BY TEE MEASURING SYSTEM (i.e. IF A
500 KG CELL IS USED TO CARRY OUT A GOOD CALIBRATION, A WEIGHT OF
ABOUT 250 KG MUST BE AVAILABLE.IF, HOWEVER, THE SYSTEM IS MADE
UP OF 4 CELLS OF 500 KG IN PARALLEL, A SAMPLE WEIGHT OF ABOUT
1000 KG MUST BE AVAILABLE),SINCE THE CARD IS EXTREMELY LINEAR,
IT NEEDS TO BE CLARIFIED WHETHER SMALLER KNOWN WEIGHTS MAY ALSO
BE USED WITHOUT PARTICULARLY COMPROMISING THE READING ACCURACY.
2. CONNECTION
• THE POWER SUPPLY TO THE TERMINALS 3-4 (SHIELD TO 5)
• THE MULTIMETER (*) TO THE TERMINALS 1-2
• THE CELL TO THE TERMINALS 11-45
(*) THE MULTIMETER MUST BE SET WITH AN END-SCALE READING OF AT LEAST
25 MA AND MUST BE CONNECTED IN PARALLEL TO THE OUTPUT (OR IF THE CAPD
IS CONNECTED TO A DISPLAY, IT MUST BE CONNECTED IN SERIES TO ANY ONE
OF THE TWO WIRES LEADING TO THE DISPLAY).

THE FOLLOWING COLOUR CONVENTION IS USED FOR FLINTEC LOAD CELLS:
POSITIVE CELL POWER SUPPLY (+EXC) = GREEN
NEGATIVE CELL POWER SUPPLY (-EXC) = BLACK
POSITIVE CELL OUTPUT (+SIG) = WHITE
NEGATIVE CELL OUTPUT (-SIG) = RED
SHLD (SHIELD) = YELLOW

3. CARD SETTING:
ADJUST THE EXIT RANGE WITH THE JUMPER (OUTPUT SELECTION)
0-20 MA OR 4-20 MA
THE JUMPER(SPAN COARSE)NEXT TO THE SPAN TRIMMER, ALLOW SELECTING THE
PRE-SELECTION OF THE SPAN-RANGE. (The distance of the jumpers of the
upper row against the lower row shouldn't be larger than one row.)
THE JUMPERS (TARE COARSE)NEXT TO THE TARE TRIMMER,ALLOW SELECTING THE
PRE-SELECTION OF THE TARE-RANGE.
4. ADJUSTMENTS
TRIMMER "TARE-FINE" CANCELS THE OFFSET OF THE CELL AND COMPENSATES
THE TARE.
THE "SPAN-FINE" TRIMMER CALIBRATES THE OUTPUT GAIN IN MA.

5. CALIBRATION PROCEDURE
• SWITCH ON THE, CARD AT LEAST 10 MINUTES BEFORE CALIBRATION
• THE TRIMMERS SAFEGUARDED WITH LAQUER MAY NOT BE ADJUSTED!
1. EMPTY THE SCALE AND CALIBRATE THE TARE TRIMMER TO OBTAIN AN
OUTPUT OF 4.00 MA(0.00 MA)
2. LOAD THE SAMPLE WEIGHT AND CALIBRATE THE SPAN TRIMMER TO OBTAIN
A CURRENT OUTPUT CORRESPONDING TO THE SAMPLE WEIGHT.
FOR EXAMPLE(OUTPUT 4-20 MA): WITH A CELL OF 500 KG AND A SAMPLE
WEIGHT OF 250 KG (I.E. 50% OF CAPACITY) THE TRIMMER MUST BE
CALIBRATED TO OBTAIN AN OUTPUT OF 12MA.
THE VALUE OF 12mA IS ARRIVED AT AS FOLLOWS:
THE SPAN OF THE 4-20mA OUTPUT IS 16mA, 50% OF 16mA IS 8mA, WHICH
ADDED TO THE OFFSET OF 4mA gives 12 mA,
IN SYNTHESIS 12 =(16 X 0.5)+ 4. IF THE SAMPLE WEIGHT IS
100Kg(I.E. 20%) THE OUTPUT IS OUT =(16 X 0.2)+ 4 = 7.2
3. EMPTY THE SCALEPAN AND,IF NECESSARY,RECALIBRATE THE OUTPUT WITH
THE ZERO TRIMMER. RECHECK AND RECALIBRATE THE OUTPUT BY MEANS
OF THE SPAN TRIMMER AND THE RELEVANT SAMPLE WEIGHT.
4. CHECK LINEARITY OF THE READING WITH A KNOWN AVERAGE WEIGHT.
