HIGH DEFINITION

What is High Definition (HD)?

For many years, people have been watching TV and DVD in Standard Definition (SD), This means the video has a maximum resolution of 720 pixels across by 576 pixels high (PAL) i.e.

there are 576 horizontal lines in the image. High Definition (HD) offers a much higher resolution than SD, increasing the level of detail and size at which the image can be displayed clearly.

Full HD 1080

There are two main types of HD resolution. 720 lines of resolution is generally referred to as HD while 1080 lines of resolution is known as Full HD and offers up to 5x the resolution of standard definition or DVD resulting in amazing picture quality.

High Definition Multimedia Interface

This connection allows users to connect a display device directly to the VAIO, transferring Full HD video as well as audio via the one cable.

VAIO Security

The advanced security of Sony VAIO includes Fingerprint Biometric Protection (a high resolution fingerprint sensor which can be used as an authorisation tool for multiple applications), Hard Drive Password Protection (password protection for your hard drive, even if it’s removed and installed into another computer), and Trusted Platform Module (TPM) security chip (hardware based security for many different applications).

Available on VGNG118GN, VGNSZ48GN, VGNSZ44GN, VGNSZ43GN, VGNTX57GN, VGNTX56GN and VGNUX27GN (TPM security chip not available on VGNUX27GN)

VAIO Hard Drive Shock Protection

When moving about, one of the dangers to a Hard Drive is potential damage to the head and platter due to rapid movement, shock or vibration. With VAIO HD Shock Protection, a 3D sensor detects rapid movement in all three axes and automatically moves the head away from the platter, protecting both the head as well as the data. To suit the various environments in

which you use your laptop, there are three levels of safety sensitivity that can be selected: high, standard and low.

VAIO Dual Core

A standard Central Processing Unit (CPU) has a single core handling all its assigned tasks. The new Dual Core processors have two cores and more L2 cache dealing with the workload,

effectively providing more processing power than that of a standard CPU.

The Dual Core processors are ideal for users who have high performance requirements, such as graphic designers, video editors, users of heavy calculation applications and gamers.

Combining Dual Core with VAIO’s huge suite of software such as Adobe® Premiere® Elements for HD editing, and Adobe® Photoshop® Elements for graphics editing, VAIO offers not just the possibility but the complete solution.

VAIO Carbon Fibre Chassis

Sony VAIO has set a new standard in strength and lightness with its multi-layered carbon fibre construction technology, far stronger than both the magnesium alloy and plastics used in conventional products. Offering unrivalled mobility, the display cabinets on the G, TX and SZ premium series are more than 200% stronger than the equivalent magnesium alloy

chassis. The actual main chassis is 400% more rigid than standard plastic bodies with a 30% reduction in weight.

VAIO Ultra-Slim LCD

A white LED backlight allows for the use of a slimmer and lighter light guide for bright illumination without compromising on size. Due to this, the overall thickness of the LCD has been reduced and with the added benefit of a screw-free LCD design, the LCD is now 230% more resistant to cracking than its predecessor.

VAIO Hybrid Graphic System

Traditionally, users have had to choose between getting a laptop of power with a dedicated graphic card, or one of good battery life with an integrated graphic card. This is no longer the case. Incorporating both integrated and dedicated graphic cards, users can now choose between STAMINA (integrated graphic card, better battery life) and SPEED (dedicated graphic card, better graphics performance) with the convenience of a switch.

Available on VGNSZ48GN, VGNSZ44GN and VGNSZ43GN

Clear Bright LCD

Improved viewing angle

With regular LCD monitors, users have to view the screen directly from the front, for the image and colour to look clear and without a ‘negative’ effect (dark colours appear lighter and the light colours appear darker). Clear Bright LCD screens all but eliminate this effect, and can be viewed clearly even from extreme angles.

Improved Colour and Contrast

Clear Bright LCD screens use brighter lamps to produce brighter colours and have a unique glare filter that cuts down the amount of light being scattered within the panel, producing richer colours and darker blacks.

Improved viewing in bright light

Available on All VAIOs except VGNG118GN

The unique glare filter and low reflection coating

in a Clear Bright LCD screen reduces the impact

of light shining directly onto it. An improved

anti-glare coating dramatically cuts down the

reflectivity of background lighting, so that it is

barely visible. This is especially handy when

using a VAIO outside or when a LCD monitor is

placed near a bright sunlit window or in a room

with bright lights above.
