are a component of the product. They supply you with important information for the intended use, safety and disposal. Before using the product, please familiarise yourself with all of the operating and safety instructions. Use the appliance only as described and only for the purposes indicated. Additionally, pass these instructions on to whoever might acquire the appliance at a future date.

This documentation is copyright protected. Any copying or reproduction, including as extracts, as well as the reproduction of

images, also in an altered state, is only permitted with the written authorisation of the manufacturer.

Intended Use

This appliance is intended for the boiling-up of water in domestic households. It is not intended for use with other liquids or for commercial applications.

Risks can be engendered by the appliance if it is used for unintended purposes and/or for other types of use.

Claims of any kind resulting from damage caused by improper use, incompetent repairs, unauthorised modiﬁ cations or the use of non-approved spare parts will not be acknowledged.

The operator alone bears the risk.

Safety instructions

In this chapter you will be given important safety information regarding the handling of the appliance.

This appliance complies with the statutory safety regulations. Incorrect usage can, however, lead to personal injury and property damage.

For safe handling of the appliance pay heed to the following safety information:

RISK - ELECTRICAL SHOCK!

Ensure that the base with the electrical connections NEVER comes into

►

contact with water! Ensure that the base is completely dry before use,

especially if it has accidentally become wet.

► Use the kettle only with the supplied base. ► Ensure that the power cable never becomes wet or damp during operation.

Lay the cable so that it cannot be trapped or otherwise damaged.

► To avoid risks, arrange for defective plugs and/or cables to be replaced

at once by qualiﬁ ed technicians or our Customer Service Department.

► After use, ALWAYS remove the plug from the mains power socket. Switching

the appliance oﬀ is not suﬃ cient, because the appliance is under power for

as long as the plug is connected to the power socket.

► Before use check the appliance for signs of visible external damage. Do

not put into operation an appliance that is damaged or has been dropped.

► Repairs should only be carried out by authorized specialist companies

or by the Customer Service department. Incompetent repairs can result in

signiﬁ cant risks for the user. In addition warranty claims become void.

WARNING - RISK OF INJURY!

► Heat water only with the lid closed, otherwise the automatic switch-oﬀ cannot

function. Boiling water could then spray out over the rim.

► Hot steam clouds may be released. The kettle also becomes very hot during

use. It is always best to wear oven mitts when handling the kettle.

► Ensure that the appliance is stood stably and vertically before switching it

on. Boiling water can cause an unstable kettle to fall over.

► This appliance is not intended for use by individuals (including children)

with restricted physical, physiological or intellectual abilities or deﬁ ciences

in experience and/or knowledge unless they are supervised by a person

responsible for their safety or receive from this person instruction in how

the appliance is to be used.

► Children should be supervised to ensure that they do not play with the

appliance.

WARNING - PROPERTY DAMAGE!

Do not use an external timing switch or a separate remote control system

to operate the appliance.

► Never leave the appliance unsupervised whilst in use. ► Ensure that the appliance, the power cable and the plug do not come into

contact with hot plates or open ﬂ ames.

Preparation

Unpacking

♦ Remove all components of the appliance and the operating manual from

the carton.

♦ Remove all packing material.

Disposal of the packaging

The packaging protects the appliance against transport damage. The packaging materials are selected from the point of view of their environmental friendliness and disposal technology and are therefore recyclable.

The recirculation of packaging into the material circuit saves on raw material and reduces the amount of waste generated. Dispose of packaging material that is no longer needed according to the regionally established regulations.

NOTICE

If possible, preserve the appliance's original packaging during the warranty

►

period so that, in the event of a warranty claim, you can pack the appliance

ideally for its return.

Initial use

WARNING - RISK OF INJURY!

► Always and only use freshly drawn mains water in the kettle! Do not con-

sume any water that is not certiﬁ ed as potable. If you do, you are taking a

risk with your health!

Before starting the appliance up, make certain that ...

– the appliance, plug and power cable are in a serviceable condition

and ...

– all packaging materials have been removed from the appliance.

1) Fill the appliance with water up to the MAX marking and let it come to a full boil once – as described in the next section.

2) After it has boiled, pour this water away.

3) Rinse the kettle out with clear water.

4) Fill the appliance with water once again, up to the MAX marking, and then bring it to boil. When done, pour this water away also.

The appliance is now ready for use.

RISK - ELECTRICAL SHOCK!

Never place the electrical base 3 close to water – this would be a

►

potentially fatal risk!

WARNING - RISK OF INJURY!

► Always use freshly drawn water. Do not consume any water that has

already stood in the kettle for longer than one hour. Do not reboil water that has cooled down. Always pour old water away. Microbes could have formed in it!

1) Lift the kettle oﬀ of the base when ﬁ lling it!

2) Press the unlocking button 1 and open the lid.

NOTICE

When ﬁ lling it, hold the kettle upright. Only in this way can you correctly

read the markings on the scale 5.

3) Fill the kettle...

– to at least the MIN mark, so that the appliance does not overheat, – to no higher than the MAX mark, so that boiling water cannot spill out.

4) First close the lid and then place the kettle on the base 3 such that it sits securely on the base 3.

5) Now insert the plug into the mains power socket.

6) Press the ON/OFF switch 2 downwards so that it engages.

7) The integrated indicator light in the ON/OFF switch 2 indicates that the appliance is now heating up.

8) The appliance switches itself oﬀ and the control lamps go out as soon as the water is on the boil. The ON/OFF switch 2 springs out.

WARNING - RISK OF INJURY!

► For safety reasons, the lid should not be opened while the water is boiling

or is very hot. There is a risk of receiving severe scalds.

WARNING - PROPERTY DAMAGE!

First remove the plug from the mains power socket before you lift the carafe

►

from the base 3. This avoids the risk that any water splashing out could come into contact with live electrical connections in the base 3, which could cause a short circuit.

INFORMATION

This appliance is ﬁ tted with an overheating protector: if the appliance is

►

switched on accidentally, without any water in the kettle, the appliance automatically switches itself oﬀ . If, for example due to a non-closed lid the appliance boils dry, the appliance switches oﬀ automatically. In such cases ﬁ rst allow the appliance to cool down before using it again.

Cleaning and Care

RISK - ELECTRICAL SHOCK!

Before cleaning, ALWAYS remove the plug from the mains power socket!

►

There is the risk of receiving an electric shock!

► Do not open any part of the housing. There are no user-serviceable elements

inside. An open housing will create the risk of a potentially fatal electrical shock.

NEVER submerse the appliance in water or other liquids! This would increase the risk of a potentially fatal electric shock should liquids come into contact with powered components.

WARNING - RISK OF INJURY!

► Let the appliance cool suﬃ ciently before cleaning it. Risk of Burns!

WARNING - PROPERTY DAMAGE!

Do not use abrasive or aggressive cleaning materials. These could attack

the upper surfaces and irreparably damage the appliance.

■ Clean the exterior surfaces and the power cable with a slightly damp cloth.

Be sure to dry the appliance well before taking it back into use. For stubborn soiling use a mild detergent on the cloth. Ensure that there are no detergent residues in and on the appliance before it is taken back into use.

In the event of scale deposits:

Scale deposits on the bottom of the appliance lead to increased energy consumption and reduce the service life of the appliance. Descale the appliance as soon as scale deposits become apparent.

■ Before descaling, remove the pourer sieve 6 (see chapter "Removing/

replacing the pourer sieve").

■ Use a descaler designed for household appliances (e.g. for coﬀ ee machines).

Proceed as detailed in the instructions provided for the use of the decalcifying agent.

■ After descaling, rinse the appliance with lots of clean water.

Removing/replacing the pourer sieve

1) Open the lid.

2) Pull the pourer sieve 6 upwards out of its holder.

3) Clean the pourer sieve 6 with a lightly moistened dishcloth and under running water.

4) After cleaning it, replace the pourer sieve 6. Ensure that the restraint engage and that the pourer sieve 6 is ﬁ rmly seated.

NOTICE

Should the scale deposits in the pourer sieve 6 be ﬁ rmly established, lay

►

it in a water-vinegar solution having a ratio of 6:1 for a few hours. The scale deposits will dissolve themselves. Rinse the pourer sieve 6 with lots of clear water.

Storage

■ Allow the appliance to cool down completely before putting it into storage.

■ Wind the power cable around the cable winder 4 under the base 3.

■ Store the appliance at a dry location.

Disposal of the appliance

Do not dispose of this appliance in your normal domestic waste.

This product is subject to the provisions of European Directive 2002/96/EC.

Dispose of the appliance through an approved disposal centre or at your com-

munity waste facility. Pay heed to the currently applicable regulations. In case of doubt, consult your local disposal facility.

Warranty

The warranty for this appliance is for 3 years from the date of purchase. This appliance has been manufactured with care and meticulously examined before delivery.

Please retain your receipt as proof of purchase. In the case of a warranty claim, please contact our service department by telephone. Only in this way can a post-free despatch for your goods be assured.

This appliance is intended solely for private domestic use, not for commercial applications. If this product has been subjected to improper or inappropriate handling, abuse, or modiﬁ cations not carried out by one of our authorised sales and service outlets, the warranty will be considered void.

This warranty does not aﬀ ect your statutory rights. The warranty period is not extended by repairs made under the warranty. This applies also to replaced and repaired parts.

Damages and defects extant at the time of purchase must be reported immediately after unpacking, resp. no later than two days after the date of purchase.

Repairs carried out after lapse of the warranty period are subject to charge.
