Important Notes
Safety Note
Use level switch NRS 2-4 in combination with GESTRA level probe type
NRG 211 only.
The equipment must only be installed by qualified staff.
Qualified staff are those persons who – through adequate training in electrical
engineering, the use and application of safety equipment in accordance with
regulations concerning electrical safety systems, and first aid & accident prevention –
have achieved a recognised level of competence appropriate to the installation and
commissioning of this device.
Warning
The terminal strip of the NRS 2- 4 is live during operation. This presents
the danger of electric shock.
Cut off power supply before inserting or removing the 19" slide-in unit
and before carrying out any installation or maintenance work.
The level switch NRS 2-4 is an analogue electronic amplifier for the capacitance
electrode type NRG 211.
In combination with this level electrode it can detect high water level. In addition, the
level switch evaluates possible malfunction signals coming from the electrode and
monitors the electrode supply cable and can therefore be used as part of a
controlled draining system in power stations.
Function
The measuring voltage delivered by the electrode is decoded as a function of its
magnitude and indicated by LEDs when there is a malfunction in the electrode
supply cable or in the electrode and when the electrode is exposed or submerged
(high level).
In the case of a malfunction the output relay malfunction is energized. When the
electrode is submerged (high level) the output relay alarm is energized.
Optocouplers are connected in parallel and assigned to the output relays. They will
be energized in the event of a malfunction or an alarm.

Attention
n
Protect the control circuit with a T 2.5 A fuse.
n
Connect screen only to the assigned terminal of the NRS 2- 4.
n
The screen must not make any other electrical contact.
n
When switching off inductive loads, voltage spikes are produced that
may impair the operation of control and measuring systems. Inductive
loads should therefore be provided with commercial arc suppressor
RC combinations, e. g. 0.1 µF/ 100 Ω.

Commissioning
Warning
The terminal strip of the NRS 2- 4 is live during operation. This presents the
danger of electric shock.
Cut off power supply before removing or inserting the 19" slide-in unit or
undertaking any kind of installation or maintenance work.
Please note
The level switch NRS 2-4 can only be operated and checked in
combination with the level electrode NRG 211-1.
Check wiring
1. Check whether the 19" slide-in unit has been properly installed in the magazine.
2. Check whether the mains supply corresponds to the wiring carried out on
the equipment.
Apply mains voltage
1. Switch on the mains supply and check whether the mains voltage is applied
across the device. The LED is provided for visual check.
B
Check switching functions
1. Check the switching function HIGHLEVEL. To assist with this objective raise the water
level in the tank above the preset high level. The LED located at the NRS 2-4
E
must light up and the corresponding function in the secondary circuit must be
operated.
2. Lower the water level. The level switch NRS 2-4 must switch back to normal
operation.
Check voltage
1. Check the supply and measuring voltage of the level electrode. The voltages can
be measured at the electrode or level switch. Fig. 3 .
