Canon XH G1 BROCHURE

CANON HD FOR THE STUDIO
Broaden your production options with the Canon XH G1 – handheld HD production in the field and in the professional studio.
Sharing the 1/3” 1.67 Megapixel 3CCD sensor system and feature set of the XH A1, the Canon XH G1 incorporates an additional range of industry standard connections. These allow the camcorder to be integrated into a professional studio environment, including multicamera shoots.
signals
Gen lock input, allowing the XH G1 to receive a Gen lock signal and be coordinated with
other video devices in a multi-camera shoot
Switchable Time Code terminal (input/output) for transmitting or receiving Time Code data
SDI (SERIAL DIGITAL INTERFACE) OUTPUT
SDI (SMPTE 259M and 292M) is the standard interface connector for professional production and is compatible with a variety of broadcast devices. Providing the real time transport of uncompressed Standard Definition (SD) and High Definition (HD) footage, via SDI the XH G1 exports uncompressed video over a single cable with an 8-bit colour depth and a sampling rate of 4:2:2 (the same rate as DigiBeta and other professional systems). Embedded Time Code and audio information can be transmitted within the signal.
TIME CODE INPUT/OUTPUT
The XH G1 features an independent SMPTE Time Code jack. A Time Code is a digitally encoded signal recorded as a separate track in a video image. It is a means of synchronising camcorders and other devices in a multi-camera shoot, to coordinate post-production work. The XH G1 allows you to either receive or send a Time Code signal via the dedicated connection.

GEN LOCK INPUT
The XH G1 incorporates a Gen lock (Generator Lock) input connection. A Gen lock signal is used to synchronise multi-camera shoots, particularly those involving a live feed. The signal informs multiple camcorders when to begin scanning each frame and each line within the frame. Without Gen lock, switching between different video sources leads to a dramatic loss in image stability as the monitor (or other device) tries to lock onto a new signal.
