i. Use extreme caution when reversing or pulling
the mower towards you.
j. Stop the blade(s) ,if the mower has to be tilted for
transportation when crossing surfaces other than
grass and when transporting the mower to and from
the area to be mowed.
k. Never operate the mower with defective guards
or shields, or without safety devices, for example
deectors and/or grass catchers in place.
l. Do not change the engine governor settings or
overspeed the engine.
m. Disengage all blade and drive clutches before
starting the engine.
n. Start the engine or switch on the mower carefully
according to instructions and with feet well away
from the blade(s).
o. Do not tilt when starting the engine or switching
on the motor, unless the mower has to be tilted
for starting. In this case, do not tilt it more than
absolutely necessary and lift only the part which is
away from the operator.
p. Do not start the engine when standing in front of
the discharge chute.
q. Do not put hands or feet near or under rotating parts.
Keep clear of the discharge opening at all times.
r. Never pick up or carry a mower while the engine
is running.
s. Stop the engine and disconnect the spark plug
lead:
i. Before clearing blockages or unclogging the
chute.
ii. Before checking, cleaning or working on the
mower.
iii.After striking a foreign object. Inspect the mower
for damage and make repairs before restarting
and operating the mower.
iv.If the mower starts to vibrate abnormally check
immediately.
t. Stop the engine
i. Whenever you leave the mower.
ii. Before refuelling.
u. Reduce the throttle setting during engine run-out
and if the engine is provided with a shut-off valve,
turn off the fuel at the conclusion of mowing.
4. Maintenance and storage.
a. Keep all nuts, bolts, and screws tight to be sure
the equipment is in safe working condition.
b. Never store the equipment with petrol in the tank
inside a building where fumes may reach an open
ame or spark.
c. Allow the engine to cool before storing in any
enclosure.
d. To reduce the re hazard, keep the engine, silencer,
battery compartment and petrol storage area free
of grass, leaves, or excessive grease.
e. Check the grass catcher frequently for wear or
deterioration.
f. Replace worn or damaged parts for safety.
g. If the fuel tank has to be drained, do this
outdoors.
1. Training
a. Read the instructions carefully. Be familiar with the
controls and the proper use of the equipment.
b. Never allow children or people unfamiliar with these
instructions to use the mower. Local regulations
may restrict the age of the operator.
c. Never mow while people, especially children, or
pets are nearby.
d. Keep in mind that the operator or user is responsible
for accidents or hazards occurring to other people
or their property.
2. Preparation
a. While mowing, always wear substantial footwear
and long trousers.
Do not operate the equipment when barefoot or
wearing open sandals.
b. Thoroughly inspect the area where the equipment
is to be used and remove all stones, sticks, wires,
bones and other foreign objects.
c. WARNING- Petrol is highly ammable.
Take the following precautions.
i. Store fuel in containers specially designed for
this purpose.
ii. Refuel outdoors only and do not smoke while
refuelling.
iii. Add fuel before starting the engine. Never
remove the cap of the fuel tank or add petrol
while the engine is running or when the engine
is hot.
iv.If petrol is spilled, do not attempt to start the
engine but move the machine away from the
area of spillage and avoid creating any source of
ignition until petrol vapours have dissipated.
v. For reasons of safety the petrol tank and tank
cap lock must be replaced if damaged.
d. Replace faulty silencers.
e. Before using, always visually inspect to see that
the blades, blade bolts and cutter assembly are
not worn or damaged. Replace worn or damaged
blades in sets to preserve balance.
f. On multibladed machines, take care as rotating one
blade can cause other blades to rotate.
3. Operation
a. Do not operate the engine in a conned space where
dangerous carbon monoxide fumes can collect.
b. Mow only in daylight or in good articial light.
c. Avoid operating the equipment in wet grass, where
feasible.
d. Always be sure of your footing on slopes.
e. Walk, never run.
f. For wheeled rotary machines, mow across the face
of slopes, never up and down.
g. Exercise extreme caution when changing direction
on slopes.
h. Do not mow excessively steep slopes.

Thank you for buying a Rover Product. All Rover Lawn mowers are designed and constructed to give optimum
grass cutting performance under normal grass cutting conditions.
This manual covers the operation and maintenance of the Rover 460 walk behind mower. Please read and understand this owners manual, before using the mower.
If any point is unclear, contact Rover Mowers Limited or any authorised Rover Mower service dealer.
Rover Mowers Limited reserves the right to make changes of, and add improvements upon, its product at anytime,

1.1 Folding handles
1. Locking knobs- By turning these knobs the handle
bars can be either locked in the operating position or
folded for storage.
1.2 Engine lubrication
The engine oil level must be checked before attempting
to start the engine. Refer to the engine manufacturer’s
instructions.
1. Position the mower on a level surface and clean
around the dip stick.
2. Remove the dip stick.
3. Using a clean funnel slowly add oil in accordance
with the engine manufacturer’s instructions.
4. Check the oil level by screwing in the dip stick or oil
plug and removing again. When oil level is correct
replace the dip stick.
CAUTION
Avoid premature engine failure by using a clean funnel
and clean away any possible contaminants.
1.3 Fuel
1. Position the mower on a level surface in a well
ventilated area.
2. Clean around the fuel tank cap.
3. Remove the fuel tank cap.
4. Place a clean funnel in the fuel ller.
5. Fill the fuel tank with unleaded petrol, allowing room
in tank for fuel expansion.
6. Replace the fuel tank cap.
7. Clean up any spilt fuel.
1.4 Controls
Throttle Control
Marked for (off) (slow) (fast) (engine
choke) positions. Figure 1.
Operator Presence Control
Handle moved towards the handle bars (I). Engine and
blades are free rotate. Handle released (0) engine and
blades stop rotating. Figure 2.
1.5 Assembling the Grass Catcher. Refer to gure
3, page i.
1. Position one side of the grass catcher on a clean at
bench.
2. Orient the mesh (A) so it aligns with the “U” channel
(B) (on the inside of the grass catcher side) and slide
it fully into the channel.
3. Position the other grass catcher side over the
assembly. Align the mesh (A) into the “U” channel
(B) and the barbs (C) into the slots (D) on the grass
catcher sides.
4. Press rmly on the grass catcher assembly to lock the
barbs (C) fully into the slots (D).
5. Check that all catcher barbs are clipped into place.
2.3 To start the engine
1. Refer to the engine manufacturer’s manual for the starting procedure, remembering to activate the operator
presence control lever before cranking the engine.
2.4 To stop the engine
1. Move the throttle control lever to the stop position

2. OPERATION
2.1 Grass catcher Refer to gure 4, page i.
Installing the grass catcher.
1. Raise the rear ap (A) of the mower.
2. Grasp the grass catcher by the top handle and
position the grass catcher against the rear of the
mower.
3. Locate the grass catcher above the grass catcher
support bracket (C). Align the catcher lugs (D) with
the hooks (B) each side and lower the catcher into
place.
4. Lower the rear ap (A) so that the back edge of the
rear ap hooks over the matching lip on the grass
catcher .
Removing the grass catcher
1. Raise the rear ap (A) of the mower to release the
grass catcher.
2. Lift the grass catcher clear of the mower and lower
the rear ap.
2.2 Adjusting the height of cut
1. Grasp the height of cut lever (A) and apply an
outward pressure to release the lever from the rack
(B). Figure 5.
2. Move the lever while holding out to the required
height of cut position and engage the lever in the
rack by releasing the lever.

2.5 Emptying the Grass Catcher
1. Remove the grass catcher (as
per the instructions above).
2. Tilt the grass catcher with the
opening downwards. Refer to
gure 7.
3. Grip the large channel in the
rear bottom of the grass catcher
with the other hand and shake
the clippings out.

3.1 Engine air cleaner
Refer to the engine manufacture’s instructions for detailed
cleaning instructions.
The engine air cleaner element must be serviced after each
25 hours of normal mowing. The element must be serviced
more regularly if the mower is used in dusty conditions.
CAUTION
Do not allow dirt to enter the air tube, engine damage may occur. Check the condition of the air tube
regularly and replace if damaged.
3.2 Spark plug
For best results remove and check the condition of the spark
plug every 25 hours of use.
1. Stop the engine and remove the spark plug lead.
2. Clean dirt from around the spark plug and remove
the spark plug.
3. Screw the spark plug into the engine and tighten to
20NM.
CAUTION
Do not over tighten the spark plug as engine damage
may occur.

3.3 Cutting assembly
WARNING
Remove the spark plug lead before working on cutting
assembly.
Do not work on the cutting assembly without wearing
gloves.
1. Disconnect the spark plug lead.
2. Move the height of cut lever to the high cut position,
and fold the handle bars.
3. Tilt the mower so that the spark plug is up.
4. Inspect the cutting assembly for damage and wear.
5. Check the disc retaining bolts. Tighten the centre bolt
to 65 - 70 Nm.and the three concentric bolts to 8 - 11
Nm.
6. Return mower to its normal position and replace the
spark plug lead.
3.4 Blade change
1. Disconnect the spark plug lead.
2. Set the mower to the high cut position.
3. Lift the rear ap on rear catcher mowers and prop open
the ap to give access to the blades.
Tilt utility mowers so that the spark plug is up.
4. Remove the blade, blade retaining bolts, nuts and
washers and discard. Retain only the ‘D’ plates.
5. Fit new blades, blade bolts, washers, and nuts in sets
to maintain balance. Figure 6.
6. Tighten the blade nuts to 16 NM. Check the blades are
free to move when the blade nut is tensioned.
7. Remove the ap prop or lower the mower to the
ground and replace the spark plug lead.
3.5 Throttle control
Each 25 hours of mowing use a small amount of light oil to
lubricate the throttle control lever.

Sicherheitshinweise
1. Grundmaßnahmen
a. Lesen Sie die Hinweise sorgfältig. Machen Sie sich mit
den Schaltern und dem vorschriftsmäßigen Gebrauch
des Gerätes vertraut.
b. Kinder oder Unvertraute, sollten den Mäher nicht bedienen.
Ortszuständige Vorschriften könnten eine Beschränkung
auf das Alter des Bedieners legen.
c. Nie in Gegenwart von anderen, besonders Kindern oder
Haustieren, mähen.
d. Der Bedienende ist für Unfälle und Schäden an
anderen Personen im Arbeitsbereich des Gerätes
verantwortlich.
2. Vorbereitung
a. Beim Mähen festes Schuhwerk und lange Hosen
tragen.
Das Gerät nie barfuß oder mit offenen Sandalen
bedienen.
b. Den Rasen von Fremdkörpern wie Steinen, Ästen,
Drähten, Knochen u.s.w. säubern.
c. VORSICHT - Benzin ist äußerst leicht entzündbar .
Nehmen Sie die folgenden Sicherheitsmaßnahmen.
i. Benzin in besonders dafür geeigneten Behältern
aufbewahren.
ii. Nur im Freien auffüllen und dabei nicht
rauchen.
iii. Benzin vor Anlassen des Motors auffüllen.
Nie Benzin nachfüllen bei laufendem oder
heißem Motor.
iv. Bei verschüttetem Benzin, den Motor nicht
anlassen. Den Mäher wegschieben bis die
Benzingase verdunstet sind, um Entzündung
des Brennstoffes zu vermeiden.
v. Aus Sicherheitsgründen sind Benzintank- und
andere Tankverschlüsse bei Beschadigung
auszutauschen.
d. Defekte Schalldämpfer ersetzen.
e. Vor Inbetriebnahme Schrauben, Messerbolzen und
Schneidwerkzeug nach Verschleiß oder Beschädigung
prüfen. Verschlissene oder beschädigte Messer dann
immer paarweise auswechseln, um das Gleichgewicht
beizubehalten.
f. Vorsicht bei Geräten mit mehreren Messern, denn das
Umlaufen eines Messers kann das Umlaufen der anderen
Messer verursachen.
3. Inbetriebnahme
a. Wegen Gasvergiftungsgefahr darf der Mäher nicht in
geschlossenen Räumen in Betrieb gesetzt werden.
b. Nur bei Tageslicht oder bei guter Beleuchtung mähen.
c. Wenn möglich, vermeiden Sie naßes Gras zu mähen.
d. An Abhängen immer festen Halt bewahren.
e. Mit dem Mäher immer nur gehen, nicht laufen.
f. Bei Maschinen mit Rädern gilt:Mahen Sie quer zum Hang,
niemals auf- oder abwarts.
g. Besondere Vorsicht ist geboten beim Wenden des Mähers
an Abhängen.
h. Nicht an sehr steilen Abhängen mähen.
i. Beim Ziehen oder rückwärts Bewegen des Mähers ist
besondere Vorsicht geboten.
j. Halten Sie das Schneidwerkzeug an, wenn der
Rasenmäher angekippt werden muß zum Transport über
andere Flachen als Gras und wenn der Rasenmäher von
und zu der zu mähenden Fläche bewegt wird.
k. Den Mäher nie mit defekten Schutzvorrichtungen oder
ohne befestigte Sicherheitsvorrichtungen, wie z.B.
Leitvorrichtungen und/oder Grasfangvorrichtungen
bedienen.
l. Ändern Sie nicht die Reglereinstellung des Motors oder
üderdrehen Sie ihn nicht.
m. Vor Anlassen des Motors alle Messer-und
Antriebskupplungen abschalten.
n. Den Motor gemäß der Gebrauchsanweisung vorsichtig
anlassen. Dabei Füße von den Messern fernhalten.
o. Beim Starten oder Anlassen des Motors darf der
Rasenmäher nicht gekippt werden, es sei denn, der
Rasenmäher muß bei dem Vorgang angehoben werden. In
diesem Fall kipppen Sie Ihn nur so weit, wie es unbedingt
erforderlich ist, und heben Sie nur die vom Benutzer
abgewandte Seite hoch.
p. Beim Anlassen des Motors nicht vor der Auswurfvorrichtung
stehen.
q. Hände und Füße von umlaufenden Teilen fernhalten,
sowie von der Auswurfvorrichtung.
r. Während des Betriebes den Mäher nie aufheben oder
tragen.
s. Den Motor abstellen und das Zündkerzenkabel von der
Zündkerze abziehen:
i. Vor Entfernung von Blockierungen in der
Auswurfvorrichtung.
ii. Vor Arbeiten am Mäher.
iii. Bei Anschlag auf einen Fremdkörper den Mäher
nach Schaden prüfen und eventuelle Reparaturen
vornehmen. Erst dann den Mäher wieder in Betrieb
setzen.
iv. Bei abnormalem Vibrieren den Mäher sofort
überprüfen.
t. Den Motor abstellen:
i. Beim Verlassen des Mähers.
ii. Vor Auftanken.
u. Bei Motorauslauf den Gashebel zurücksetzen und beim
Modell mit Benzinhahn, den Hahn abdrehen.
4. Wartung und Lagerung
a. Um das Gerät in betriebsfähigem Zustand zu halten,
alle Muttern, Bolzen und Schrauben nach festem Sitz
prüfen.
b. Das Gerät nie mit Benzin im Tank in einem Raum lagern,
in dem Benzingase durch offene Flammen oder Funken
entzündet werden könnten.
c. Vor Lagerung den Motor abkühlen lassen.
d. Um eine Feuergefahr zu vermindern, Motor, Schalldämpfer,
Batteriegehäuse und Benzinablagerungsgebiet von Gras,
Blättern oder übermäßig viel Öl freihalten.
e. Prüfen Sie regelmäßig die Grasfangeinrichtung auf
Verschleiß und Verlust der Funktionsfähigkeit.
f. Abgenutzte oder beschädigte Teile als
Sicherheitsmaßnahme ersetzen.
g. Benzin nur im Freien ablassen.
