foundinhighwaydrivingtoregenerate
theDPF .IftheDPFwarninglampis
illuminated,theeasiestoptionisto
assisttheATSbyproceedingtothe
nearesthighway .
•Selectahighwaythathasaposted
legalspeedofmorethan35mph.
•DriveyourvehicleuntiltheDPF
lampgoesoff.Thismaytake3045minutesofspeedsgreaterthan
20mph(32kph).
Ifyouroperationorplannedroutein
theimmediatefuturelimitsyourability
toreachhighwayspeeds,proceed
tothenextsectiontitledParked
Regeneration.

Overview
TheDPFsystemconsistsofa
Hydrocarbon(HC)Doser,aDiesel
OxidationCatalyst(DOC),andaDPF.
ThecomponentsoftheDPFsystem
performthefollowingfunctions:
•TheATSinletandoutletadapt
thevehicleexhaustpipingtothe
ATS,andalsoprovideamounting
locationfortheaftertreatmentgas
temperaturesensors.
•TheDPFdifferentialpressure
sensormeasurestherestriction
acrosstheDPF .
•TheDPFlterssootoutofthe
exhaust.
•WhenactivatedtheHCDoser
spraysasmallamountofdiesel
fuel(theHC)intotheexhaust.The
catalystintheDOCreactswith
theHCtogenerateheat.Theheat
isusedtoclean
DPFbyreducingthetrappedsoot
toash.
(regenerate)the
•Sootiscomposedofthepartially
burnedparticlesoffuelthatoccur
duringnormalengineoperation
(blacksmoke).
•Overtime,bothsootandash
accumulateintheDPFandmust
beremoved.Sootisremovedby
