The Eppendorf test tube is a polypropylene disposable test tube for preparing, mixing, centrifuging, transporting and storing solid and liquid samples and reagents. The area of application is
the use by trained specialists in education, routine and research laboratories in the biosciences,
industry, hospitals and chemistry. In vivo applications (applications carried out in or on the
human body) are not permitted. Eppendorf test tubes have a graduated scale for orientation of
the fill level and a writing surface for identification purposes.
Safety information
–Reagents can cause corrosive burns and other health hazards. Samples can be infective or
contain other health hazards. When using toxic, aggressive or radioactive liquids or pathological bacteria, the appropriate national regulations should be observed. Reagents, test

tubes contaminated with reagent, and materials used for cleaning or disinfecting must be
disposed of in accordance with laboratory regulations.
–When transporting and/or storing outside of the laboratory, suitable safety precautions must
be made to prevent the material in the container from escaping.
–Protect test tubes from falling over: Keep in a tube-rack or test tube holder.
–Close the test tube lids before centrifuging. Open lids can be ripped off during centrifuging
and damage the centrifuge. When using centrifuges, only use the recommended accessories and observe the operating instructions for the device and the maximum allowable
centrifugation capacity.
–When using the tubes with devices, only use the recommended accessories and observe
the operating instructions for the device.
–In exceptional cases (e.g. high reagent vapor pressure) the test tube lids may open at higher
temperatures, particularly if the lid has not be properly closed or if the leakage seal has
been damaged.
–Please observe the maximum fill volume. When opening the tube, liquid in the lid may
escape.
–The micro test tubes may not be used with liquid nitrogen, as the usage temperature range
extends only from -80 °C to +100 °C (see page 3 of "Technical Data"). In addition, the tube
lid may spring open during thawing and propel the contents out of the tube when the tubes
have previously been frozen in liquid nitrogen. The tube lids may not be submerged into the
liquid phase. No liquid nitrogen may penetrate into the tubes.
–Only use optically perfect and undamaged test tubes. When closing the tube, do not
damage the leakage seal.
