FAQ for Multi protocol Print Server

Product Overview
1. What is Multi protocol Print
The print servers provide printing service on multiple protocol, NetWare IPX protocol, Win95
NT NetBEUI protocol, Unix/NT TCP/IP protocol and AppleTalk OS EtherTalk protocol, we call
multi protocol Print Servers. D-Link Print Servers support IPX, NetBEUI, TCP/IP and Apple Ether
protocol.
Feature description
1. How many printer/LAN port support in DP-300 Print Server ?
D-Link multi protocol Print Server DP-300 which provide one 10/100Mbps auto sense Ethernet port and can
connect to 2 parallel printer and 1 serial printer at the same time.
2. How many printer/LAN port support in DP-301 Print Server ?
D-Link multi protocol Print Server DP-301 which provide one 10/100Mbps auto sense Ethernet port and
one parallel printer port.
3. Does D-Link Print Server support any management function?
Yes, D-Link Print Server fully support MIB-II (RFC 1213) SNMP-standard management.
4. Does D-Link Print Servers support the HP PJL protocol or not?
Yes, D-Link Print Severs parallel ports support HP PJL protocol for bi-directional network printer
communication.
Application setup
1. How to do the files will not be printed or the last page cannot be printed until quitting the
application of editor using with prints server?
a. Case for NetWare Client: Add the “TI=X” parameter after “capture” command
b. Case for LanSmart: press “HOT KEY”
c. Case for Lanman: N/A
2. Can we set the same port name of Print Servers?
We recommence to set different name for each port of Print Servers at the same Network. If
you set the same port name of Print Servers, PS Admin program will recognize its and show the error
message.
3. Can we set the Print Servers name in Chinese name?
Now, our PS Admin program have English and Japanese version only. Thus, cannot
set the Chinese name for Print Servers. We have the plan to support Chinese Version soon.
4. How to solve the NW4.11 Server after changed the internet net number and Print Servers cannot
login to Server?
Cause of Print Servers try to login NW Server, it need to sent ask message for get
message from internet net number from NW Server. You need to do following process.
a. unload the “ipxrtr”

b. Reset the Print Servers (for login)
c. reload “ipxrtr”
5. Is there any additional service or utility that need to be added in Windows95 to run and configure
for the Print Servers NetWare protocol in PS Admin program?
It is necessary to install “Client for NetWare” on the platform which
system you want to run PS Admin to configure Print Servers for NetWare protocol. Because, PS Admin
need supervisor’s right to configure system. Please also see in our user guide.

6. How many Unix Systems that D-Link Print Servers support?
D-Link Print Servers have been tested with the following Unix System.

7. Does D-Link Print Servers support DHCP server?
No, D-Link Print Servers support the DHCP client. But
we strongly recommended disabling Print Server’s DHCP protocol or
configuring a fixed IP address for Print Server.
8. Why did we find that Print Server’s ARP IP assignment not work, why?
The ARP IP assignment assign IP to new Print Server with default setting and then
use Telnet to do some setting for Print Server. If Print Server has been set,
you should be done the “Factory Reset” and tries to do ARP IP assignment. Please save a copy for your
setting before do factory reset is requirement
9. How PS-Admin program works on pure NetBEUI Win95/WinNT environment?
You have to load IPX/SPX protocol on your Win95/WinNT network section before running PSAdmin program.
