programme at the same time,
provided that the selected sources
are available in your system.
While watching a programme or

The surround sound module in your
television allows you to see which
active sound system is currently
playing on the source or programme

sound system in this menu.
A given sound system signal may
automatically switch on the speaker

the specific sound system. You can
always choose to disregard such
automatic change in speaker
combination. For further information,

37
BeoSystem 1 has a built-in 24-hour
clock.
When you preset BeoSystem 1 to
switch itself on or off at a particular
time, or when you preset a timed
recording of a programme on a
connected BeoCord V 8000 video
tape recorder, the clock ensures that
these features are switched on and
off at the right times.
The simplest way to set the clock is
to synchronise it with a tuned TV
channel’s teletext service via the
Clock menu. If you choose to
synchronise the clock, this is done
with the teletext service offered by
the TV channel you are currently
watching. If a teletext service is not
available, you can set the clock
manually.
Before synchronising the clock with a tuned
channel, make sure that the channel you are
watching of fers a teletext ser vice.

Connect the IR receiver
A
41
To facilitate remote control operation of
BeoSystem 1 and all connected equipment,
you must connect the IR receiver to
BeoSystem 1.
The IR receiver is a kind of ‘eye’ which is
capable of receiving signals from your Beo4
remote control and sending them to
BeoSystem 1. BeoSystem 1 then sends the
appropriate control signals to your screen,
projector or other connected equipment.
To connect the IR receiver…
> Detach the IR receiver’s rear cover (unscrew the
two (C) screws and loosen the two ( D) screws,
then lift off the cover).
> Cut the included cable to the required length
and strip the cable.
> Insert the cable end through the cable clamp (E)
and connect the leads to the terminals inside
the receiver in the order indicated. Tighten the
clamp.
> Attach the rear cover and fasten the IR receiver
to the wall as described below.
> Connect the cable to the IR RECEIVER socket on
BeoSystem 1.

Connect a screen to BeoSystem 1
BeoSystem 1 is intended for use with a
plasma screen. However, it also supports the
use of a front projector, rear projector, or
LCD screen. You can also connec t a home
automation system to BeoSystem 1, and
thereby control room lights and curtains
when BeoSystem 1 is switched off.
IMPORTANT! The screen you connect to
BeoSystem 1 must be compatible with 50 Hz
input!
The diagrams show examples of BeoSystem 1 in
setups with, respectively, a plasma screen/LCD
screen, a projector and a home automation system.
More than one screen type can be connected at
one time.
The diagrams are provided as examples, and therefore may not apply to your particular screen. Your
installer should set up your screen and connect it
to BeoSystem 1.

do not connect to the mains yet!
When connections are complete…
Connect BeoSystem 1 to the mains and switch on
the mains switch on the back of BeoSystem 1. The
system is in standby mode and ready to be used. If
BeoSystem 1 is set up on its own, you can now
begin tuning in channels, as explained in ‘Tune in TV channels’ on page 26.
BeoSystem 1 was designed to be left in standby
mode when not in use. Therefore, to facilitate
remote control operation, it is essential that you
leave the mains switch on.

Regular maintenance, such as
cleaning BeoSystem 1, is the
responsibility of the user. To achieve
the best result, follow the
instructions to the right. Contact your
Bang & Olufsen retailer to determine
recommendations for regular
maintenance.
Any defective parts are covered by
the guarantee during the warranty
period.
Cleaning surfaces…
Wipe dust off the surfaces using a dry, soft
cloth. Remove grease stains or persistent dirt
with a soft, lint-free, firmly wrung cloth,
dipped in a solution of water containing only
a few drops of mild detergent, such as
washing-up liquid.
Cleaning the Beo4
Wipe the Beo4 remote control with a soft,
lint-free, firmly wrung cloth.
Changing the batteries…
When ‘BATTERY’ appears in the Beo4 display,
it is time to change the batteries in the
remote control.
The Beo4 requires three batteries. We
recommend that you use Alkaline batteries
only (1.5 volt – size A AA). Replace the
batteries as shown on this page. Keep a
finger on top of the batteries until the lid is
replaced.
Never use alcohol or other solvents to clean
any part of BeoSystem 1!
