6 The Tools key can be used to access:
• The programming of the keys (numbers and functions),
• The settings of the phone (ringing and contrast),
• Customisation of the phone (management of directories).
7 Directory key for:
• 1 key stroke: access to the call-by-name function
• 2 key strokes: access to abbreviated numbers
• 3 key strokes: access to the list of received calls

R key (flashing):
• Ongoing call, access to numbers (e.g.: call a second party).
Key for direct access to the voice mailbox:
• can be used in standby for an automatic callback of the voice mailbox, with or without a message notification.
9 - / + keys:
Volume control (handset and loudspeaker, ringer, beep heard when silent key is pressed) and screen contrast control ke ys Consult keys in call by name mode
10 Red key for:
• Stop the ringing durin g an inbound call (th e message LED continues to flash),
• Terminate an ongoing call,
• Reset a setting or exit a programming sequence during programming.
11 L1/L2 programmable keys, with associated LEDs:
These keys can be used for the same programming functions as the keys on the upper part of the phone, but they have no associated labels.
12 Loudspeaker key for activating or deactivating the group
listening mode during an ongoing call. The associated LED lights up.
13 Secret key, ongoing call:
• Cuts off the mic of the handset during a call in order to have a confidential conversation without the contact person noticing it.
The associated indicator lights up to indicate that the function is activated.

Alphanumeric keypad
The alphanumeric keypad is used to enter letters and digits. The entry is based on the equivalence of the keys with letters or signs.
Standard codes
This docume nt des cribes th e sta ndard a cces s cod es to the diffe rent function s, which m ay be personalise d by th e sy ste m op erat or. In th at ca se, the operator will indicate to you the specific access codes to enter in the spaces reserved for that purpose (for example: Dial­out code
0 or ; enter the personalised code in the frame).
To enter a text:
• Select the required character by successively pressing the corresponding key.
Example:
• On pressing the key 2 once, the letter A is displayed,
• On pressing the key 2 a second time, the letter B is displayed,
• On pressing the key 2 a third time, the letter C is displayed,
• On pressing the key 2 a fourth time, the numeral 2 is displayed.
Key 1 is used to enter the following characters:
- / : " , < > = + ? ! % 1
Note: All letters are entered in upper-case only. To enter a letter which is located on a different key:
• Press immediately another key to enter the letter according to the same principle.
To enter a different letter which is located on the same key:
• Wait until the cursor flashes at the next position.

Calling modes
Using the handset
To pick up the handset before calling a party:
• Pick up the handset.
• Dial the number of your contact.
Note: You can also use the , keys or a programmed
key. After the party has replied, the conversation is held in discrete mode
(handset off-hook).
To lift the handset when the called party answers:
Directly dial the number without picking up the handset.
• Dial the number of the contact.
Note: You can also use the , keys or a programmed
key.
-> The loudspeaker outputs the dial tone. When the called party answers:
• Pick up the handset.

Calling modes
Using the group listening mode
The group listening mode allows you to listen to a contact via the loudspeaker, while the handset is picked up, in order to enable other persons to listen to the call as well.
Adjusting the listening volume
The sound volume of the handset and the loudspeaker can be adjusted over 8 levels.
During the call:
• Press the speaker key.
-> The group listening mode is activated. The LED of the loudspeaker key lights up.
Note: You can still continue to use the handset. To deactivate the group listening mode:
• Press the speaker key.
-> The group listening mode is deactivated. The indicator of the loudspeaker key goes off.
Volume down:
• Press the - key

Several options exist to call a party, depending on whether the party’s number is new or has already been stored by the phone.
Entering the number

Using the programmable keys
The programmabl e keys on your pho ne can be assigned to the numbers of p arties that you call regularly (internal or external).
To call an internal party:
• Dial the party's extension number.
-> The display shows the number of the par ty cal led .* When the called party answers, pick up the handset to talk.
To ca ll an exte rnal party:
1 - Dial the outside line access code (0) or .
2 - Dial the number of the called party.
-> The display shows the dialled number, or the name of the called party if it is in the directory.
When the called party answers, pick up the handset to talk.
* Depending on the programming performed by the system operator.
• Press the programmed key.
->The phone automatically calls the party.
The display shows the number of the party called, if available. When the called party answers, pick up the handset to talk.
Note: To program a key, please refer to the chapter "Programming a key", Page 25.

Using the redial function (redialling of the last number called)
The redial functio n (redi al lin g of the las t num be r called ) all ow s you to re dial automatically the last number called.
Calling an attendant* (switchboard)
To reach t he person who is responsible for t he call rece ption service:
Calling an internal party by name
If you do not know your internal party's number, you can access it by entering their name on the alphanumeric keypad.
The LEDs of the programmable keys associated with the call-by-name function light up, provided that this function is available.
• Press the green key.

The phone automatically calls the party. The display shows the number
called.
When the called party answers, pick up the handset to talk.
* Depending on the programming performed by the system operator.
• D ial on the keypad 9 or . When the operator answers, lift the handset to talk.
Phone in standby mode:
1. Press the key.
ABC...? 2. T o enter the first two characters , press the corresponding keys
successively (also refer to "Alphanumeric keypad", Page 7).
• Press the key to er ase the last charact er, if required.

Using the automati c callback function

You are calling an internal party who is busy or does not answer. You can request t he party to call you back automatically.
3. Press the key to display the first reply.
Note: If several replies are available, the Consult/N ext key
remains lit.
• Press the key successively until the desired name is displayed.
• Press the or key to display the first name and the number associat ed with the su rnam e.
To return to the last name:
• Press the key.
To modify the entry:
• Press the key.

-> The phone automatically calls the party. The display shows
the number of the internal party call ed.
-> When the called party answers, pick up the handset to talk.
Reminder: Use the red key to cancel or terminate a
sequence.

To activate automatic c allback:
Before hanging up: 1 - Press the R key.
2 - Press the key 5 or

As soon as the call ed party in questi on is free (if the line was busy) or has activated his telephone (if out of office), your phone rings. When you answer, your called party's phone that is "in callback" also rings.
To deactivate the automatic callback function:

Using the store and redial function
If your party does not answer or is busy, you can temporarily record their number in order to call them back later (even if you dial other numbers in the meantime).
To store the number:
Your party is busy or does not answer:
• Press successively the following keys: * 7 9 or .
-> An audible signal and the display indicate that the a ction has been carried out.
This number remains stored until it is redialled or erased.
To call the stored number:
You want to redial this number:
• Press successively the following keys: * 9 9 or .
-> The phone automatically call s the stored nu mber . When the called party answers, pick up the handset to talk.
Note: You can also simply lift the handset and wait 5 seconds.
After the p arty ha s a nswe r ed in c al lba ck mo de, the number is no longer stored.
To erase the stored number:
You want to erase the stored number (for example, in order to store another number):
• Press successively the following keys: # 7 9 or .
-> An audible signal and the display indicate that the a ction has been carried out. The number is erased.

During an inbound call, the phone rings and the message indicator flashes. If the caller is stored in one of the common directories (internal or external

), the display
indicates the associated name.
Adjusting the ring volume level
You can adjust the ringer volume level during the ringing phase.
Interrupting the ringer
During the ringi ng pha se , yo u ca n c hoo se to c ut th e ri nge r - for the call that is in progress only.
Answering a call
* Depending on the programming performed by the system operator.
Successively press the -/+ keys to increase the volume level (8 levels are available, including ringer off).
->The phone stores the last setting.
Press th e red key.
-> The phone no longer rings. The message indicator c ont inu es t o flash to indicate that you have an inbound call.
Note: Pressing the -/+ key restores the ringer.
The phone will ring again the next time it is called.
• Pick up the handset.
-> The conversation with the party takes place in discreet mode.
-> An external call that is not answered within a given time is transferred to the attendant.

Picking up a call intended for another extension

You can intercept calls intended for another extension when its designated user is absent.

To pick up a call meant for a phone in your group:
You are part of a call pick-up group, i. e. all the peop le in this grou p can quickly recover calls from a ringing phone inside the same group:
• Press successively the

handset to talk to the party.
To pick up a call meant for any phone:
You can intercept the call on a phone when its designated user is absent:
1 - Press successively the following keys:

2 - Dial the extension number before lifting the handset to talk to
the party.
Note: if this situat ion aris es freq uen tly w ith the s am e ph one s, ask
the system operator to become part of the same call group.
To pick up a common bell call:
The operator is a bsent and you want to reco ver a common bell ca ll:

Using the mute function
The call is set up wit h a pa rty and you want to have a confident ial conv ersation without the party being able to hear it:

The call is se t up with a party and y ou want t o put it on hold to resume i t later o n the s ame phone:
To deactivate the microphone:
Press the Secret key.
-> Mic of the handset cut off; the LED associated with the key lights up. Your party cannot hear you.
To reactivate the microphone:
Press the Secret key again.
-> The microphone of the handset is in service; the indicator associated with the k ey g oes o ff , i ndica ting that y our p arty can hear you again.

-> Your party is put on hold and hears beeps or music-on-hold.

conversation with your party.
Note: the hold function can be programmed on a programmable
key. If you use this function regularly, consult your system operator who will get it programmed.

The call is set up with a party and yo u want to continue the conversati on on another pho ne located in another office:
Transferring a call
You want to transfer the current call to another phone:
Press successively the following keys:

-> The phone returns to standby. Your party is put on hold and hears beeps or music-on-hold.
On the second phone:
You want to recover the party on hold: 1 - Successive ly p r es s th e

lifting the handset).
2 - Dial the number of the first phone to res ume the con versat ion
with your party.
-> If the external ca ll on ho ld is not resum ed withi n a giv en time , it is routed to the operator. An internal call is released.

Calling a second party
You are in the middle of a call with a party and you want to call a second party, inside or outside the company.
Answering a second call

While talking with one party, you hear an audible signal: an external party is trying to call you. You can answer this second call without cutting off the first call.
Switching between two parties
You want to succes si vel y sw it ch bet ween parties:
1 - Press the
R key.
-> Your other party is put on hold and hears an audible signal. 2 - Dial the number of the other party.
Note: You can also access a stored number.
• If the called party does not answer, press the
R1 or
keys to return to the party on hold.
-> The display shows the num ber or na me of the party you are talking to.
* Depending on the programming performed by the system operator.
Press successively the following keys: R * 1 0 or .
-> The other party is automatically put on hold. You can talk to the s ec ond p arty whose identity is display ed on the screen.
Note: If you have programmed the multi-key or multi-line function
(refer to these chapters for more information), you can press the programmed keys to ans w er the cal l and swit ch from one party to the other.
• Press the
R 2 or key.
-> You talk alternately with each party, but they cannot communicate with one another.

Releasing one of the parties
To release one of the parties (the one with whom you are talking):
Setting up a conference call
You want to talk to both partie s at the same time (function gr anted if you made the last call) .
Other features during a call
• P ress the R 1 or key.
-> You recover the party who was on hold.
• P ress the
R 3 or key.
-> A three-way conference call is set up between you and your two parties. If one of them hangs up, you stay on line with the other.
To leave the conference call:
During the conference call, if you want to leave your two parties talking to one another:
• Press the red key (or simply hang up the handset).
-> The two parties stay in communication.
Note: if it fails, your phone rings again.
To use the trace function:
You want the number of the called or calling party (internal or external) to be written in the logbook, for example to identify a nuisance call.
During a call:
• Press successively the following keys:
R # * or .
-> An audible message indicates that the action has been
validated. The number is automatically stored in the logbook that can be consulted by the system operator. You can hang up the handset or press
R1 to resume the call.

To protect the call:
To protect the phone against any call or intrusion during data transmission:
• Press successively the following keys:

-> An audible signal and the display indicate that the action has been carried ou t. During this c all, any attempt t o call the pho ne is ignored. You can press
R1 to resume the call.
• Hang up your handset.
-> The line is free. The communication is terminated.

Directory of abbreviated numbers
These are directories stored at the system level.
• The personal directory is used to record your most frequently used numbers (up to 10, numbered from 0 to 9).
• The group directory can be accessed by all the phones (even those for which outside access is forbidden).
Programming a personal abbreviated number
To program a number:
Erasing a personal abbreviated number
To record a new number, delete the previous one first.
1 - Press successively the following keys:

2 - Dial an abbreviated number from
0 to 9.
3 - Dial the party's number (preceded by 0 for an outside party).

The log can store the numbers of the last 5 inbound ca lls, regardless of whe ther or not they were answered.
When the log is full, a new call will erase the oldest. When consulting the log, you can automatically call back the stored number. You can
erase all the numbers stored.

You call some parties or colleagues several times a day. You regularly use some telepho ne function s such as forwarding, su pervisio n, filtering , call pick-up, etc.
The programmable keys on your phone can be used to store these numbers or functions and easily access the services offered. A few programming examples are given below. However, we recommend referring to the chapters that specifically describe these functions for more information on the features available.
Programming a key
Regardless of the type of prog ramming (number or functi on), the access procedure is iden­tical.
1 - Press the Tools key.
2 - Press a programmed key without waiting.

Squatt function
This function is used to temporari ly reco ver the fea tures and programm ing on yo ur phone to use them on another phone.

Locking the phone
This function is used, for example, to prohibit in your absence outgoing calls from your phone and access to the logs (outbound and inbound call log) as well as to your private directory.
Important: Before locking your phone, you must have personalised the secret code on
your phone (see "Personalising the phone’s secret code", Page 52).
Activating the phone lock
You want to activate the lock on your phone:
Calling an external party from the locked phone
You have locked your phone and want to selectively call an external party without deacti­vating the lock.

The phone is locked, but you can call an emergency number:
Deactivating the phone lock
In standby, the display indicates that the phone is locked:
• Dial the emergency number.
Note: The phone accepts a number that is part of a list of
emergency numbers (ambulance service, f ire department, etc.), programmed by the system operator.
At the end of the call, the phone goes back to the locked state.
You want to cancel the phone lock:

• Press successively the following key: # 0 5 or .
-> After pressing a key ( ), you are also prompted to enter your secret code to deactivate the lock.
3 - Enter your phone's secret code.

Selecting and adjusting the phone ringer
You can choose the melody (8 options) and adjust the ringer volume (5 levels).
Adjusting the screen contrast
You can adjust the screen contrast over 8 levels.
1 - Press the Tools key.

-> Each time a key is pressed, the corresponding melody is played.

Adjusting the volume level of the beeps heard when a key is pressed
Each time a key is pressed, a beep is emitted. The volume level of this beep can be ad­justed over 5 levels; the lowest level corresponds to no beep.
Personalising the phone’s secret code
To access cert ain functions (unlo cking the phone, virtual de sking function…) a secr et code is required. This code (different from the mail access code) is 0000 by default. You must personalize this code before use (for example, to unlock the phone).
Phone in standby mode:
• Press the key to modify the volume level of the key strokes. As soon as the beep suppression has been reached, the next key stroke is accompanied with volume level 5.
-> After each key press, the new setting is played. The phone
stores the last setting.

The Aastra 6753, Aastra 6755 and Aastra 6757 terminals are digital terminals which are compatible with the installed base as from version R3.2 of the PBX.
Package content
The packaging of the phone must contain the following:
- the phone
- the handset
- a connection cable for the handset
- a connection cable to the telephone network
- cardboard levels for identification of the keys (Aastra 6753 and Aastra 6755)
- two feet for use of the phone on a desk
- two screws and two wall anchors for wall mounting of the phone
- a quick user guide
Options
Headset microphone
The Aastra 6755 and Aastra 6757 terminals allow the use of a headset microphone.
Extension module (only Aastra 6757)
On the Aastra 6757 terminal, the M670 extension module can be used to expand the phone’s capacity by 36 additional programmable keys.

Connections
Handset connection
Turn the phone and locate the ma rked handset soc ket . Insert one of the e nds of the handset cable into the so cket unt il it snaps in with a cli ck, then in sert the cab le into the s lot, as shown in the figure below. Connect the other end of the cable to the handset.
Headset connection (optional for Aastra 6755 and 6757)
Turn the phone ups ide down and look f or the marke d headset soc ket . Insert the con­nector of th e headset ca ble into the socket unt il it sna ps in place. T hen inse rt the cable into the slot, as shown in the figure above.
Connection to the telephone network
The phone is connected to the telephone network by a cable included in the delivery:
- RJ45 male connector for wall end mounting
- RJ11 male connector for connection of the phone. The network socket on the phone is located on the back of the phone, at the marked loca-
tion
. Insert the RJ11 connec tor of the connect ing cable into the socket until it snap s in
place. Insert the RJ45 end into the wall socket.

The standard connection of the terminals is as follows:
A pair is required to connect the phones. We recommend using a shielded cable that is grounded on the splitter side.
The line is always wired to the 2 middle contacts of the phone's RJ11 connector. If your configurat ion is different, cords are availab le to connect the phones to the telephon e
network:
- Standard wall socket (French type): HK1040B (kit of 10 cords)
- RJ45 wall socket (with 7 and 8 wired): HK1041A (kit of 10 cords)
Note: The distance required is 1000 m in 4/10 and 1800 m in 6/10.
Mounting the phone
Desktop phone
The phone is equipped with two fixed feet under the phone so that it can be placed on a desk. Four tilting angles are available to customise the position of the phone.
Insert each foot into one the not ches on the phone bas e. The upper part of t he housing has three pairs of notches. Each foot is inserted into two pairs of notches (1 and 2 o r 2 an d 3) so that different ti lt angles can b e phone. The feet c an also be reve rsed to obtain two m ore angles.
For a greater angle, us e the second and third notches from above. For a smaller angle, use the first and second notches. Insert the foot until it snaps in.

Wall mounting
Installing the handset cradle
On a wall-mounted phone, the handset is held by a stud that has to be pulled out of the housing:
1 - Use a pointed and rigid instrument to pull the stud fully out of its slot, whi c h is located
on the side where the earpiece of the handset is placed.
2 - Turn the st ud round and re-insert it into it s slot with a slight pressur e. The stud must now
protrude from its slot, so that the handset can be hung on it.
Fixing the phone on the wall
The phone has two p re-drilled holes on the ba ck of the hous ing for wall-mo unting. Ma rk on the wall the location of th e drill holes for the mounting screws. Depend ing on the quali ty of the wall, wall anchors may be required. The screws and wall anchors are included in the delivery.
Place the wall m ounting hol es of the ph one above th e heads of the screws in the wall, the n pull down to fasten the phone.

Installation of the M670 module on the Aastra 6757 terminal
The extension module can be used to expand the phone’s capacity by 36 additional pro­grammable keys. To install the extension module:
1 - Turn the phone upside down and look for the marked extension module socket . 2 - Remove the cover on the socket. 3 - Insert the connector of the extension module cable into the socket until it snaps in. 4 - Insert the module connection cable into the slot. 5 - To attach t he ex tens ion module to the phon e, a lig n t he mounting points and attach the
two elements using the screws included in the delivery.
6 - Place the foot of the extension module in the same way as the feet of the phone. Note: To use the keys of the alphanumeric keypad during a call by name, the DCF 364
must be declared as 1.

Tips and safety
Caution!
Do not install the eq uipment in a damp room or near a water outlet. This devic e must be used at a temper ature bet ween 5°C and 45°C.
Telephone connection:
This equipment ca nnot be conn ected to the pub lic netwo rk. This telephone is designed to be installed with a private switching system from the Aastra ranges. The voltages present on this network are classified TRT1 (Telephone Network Voltage) according to the EN 60-950 standard.
Connections
Only plug the phone cable into the socket provided for that purpose. Do not modify the connectors.
Maintenance:
First use a cloth moistened with slightly soapy water, then wipe with a dry cloth. Do not use solve nts or househ old cleaning pro ducts, so tha t your phone will retain its new look.

The disposal of t his product is subject to na tional regulations on the disposal of electrical and electronic equipment.

Glossary (terms you should know)
Secret code/password Personal code, used as a password. Two secret codes are assigned
to you.
• Secret phone code: used to cancel a phone lock and access certain functions (squatt). The default code is 0000.
• Secret mail access code: 2 to 4-digit code used to access your voice mailbox.
Conference call Three-way call from a call with two parties. Filtering Used to forward calls meant for a "Manager" phone to an "Assistant"
phone.
Intercept group Group of phones associated to the same group and authorized to
intercept calls intended for this group.
List of calls received List of the last 5 calls made on the phone. Multi-line subscribers A phone with several directory numbers. Multi-key A phone with one directory number, but several programmed keys to
manage several calls simultaneously.
Directory of internal names
This is the common directory of names of internal parties, recorded in the system by the system operator.
