HBM-30 Bluetooth™ Music Handsfree is a music player based on Memory Stick Duo technology with a portable headset solution based on Bluetooth wireless technology.
See “Additional information” on page 19 before

There are two types of Memory Stick Duo:
MagicGate Memory Stick Duo (with the logo) is equipped with MagicGate copyright protection technology. This is used for multimedia storage. The HBM-30 fully supports MagicGate Memory Stick Duo. – Memory Stick Duo is not equipped with MagicGate. This is used for data storage. HBM-30 can use it only to play back MP3 files.

Getting started

Before you can use your HBM-30 Bluetooth Music Handsfree, you must first:
• Insert an AAA battery, see picture “1.” on page 4. Use a coin to open the battery door.
• Insert the Memory Stick Duo into the slot until it clicks into place.
• Connect the headphones, see picture “Overview” on page 7.
• Turn on the HBM-30. Press and hold until you hear the start-up sound or until the display shows SonyEricsson. (Press and hold again to turn off.) See picture “1.” on page 4.
• Pair the HBM-30 with a mobile phone. The first time the HBM-30 Bluetooth Music Handsfree is turned on, it is automatically ready for pairing. See “Pairing” on page 9. Press if you do not want to pair your HBM-30 now.
• The microphone is located between the and the
buttons, and designed for use above the chest. Hang the HBM-30 around your neck or attached to your clothes, using the neck strap or the clip. See picture “3.” on page 5. During calls, do not

Locking the buttons
You can lock the buttons to prevent accidental operation when carrying the HBM-30.
To lock the buttons
Press to lock all buttons, except and . The display shows Hold. Press again to unlock.
Battery status
The battery status is indicated by as long as the battery is sufficiently charged. When the battery is nearly empty the display shows . A small amount of battery power may be preserved when you switch the HBM-30 off and then back on again after some time.
Turn off the HBM-30 and change battery to
prevent corruption of your Memory Stick Duo.
Note: Removal of the battery during operation will delete all unsaved user settings and may corrupt the contents of your Memory Stick Duo.

Pairing

You can connect your HBM-30 to your mobile phone or any device with Bluetooth wireless technology that supports the Headset or the Handsfree profile.
Pairing the HBM-30 with a phone
You pair the HBM-30 with the phone by adding it to a list of paired devices in the phone. Once you have paired your HBM-30 with the phone, you do not need to pair it again until you want to use it with another device.
To pair the HBM-30 with a phone
1. Turn off the HBM-30.
2. Press and hold and until you hear a beep
and the display shows Pairing mode.
3. Make sure that the HBM-30 is within 1m (3ft) of the phone.
4. Prepare your phone according to the phone’s user documentation on pairing.
5. Enter the passkey (0000) for HBM-30.
6. When pairing has been completed, the icon
appears on the HBM-30.

Resetting the HBM-30
HBM-30 can be reset to its factory settings. This also clears current pairing.
To reset the HBM-30
With the HBM-30 in pairing mode, press and hold both and . The display shows Factory Set and the HBM-30 will switch off.

Play music

You can play either ATRAC3 or MP3 music files with your HBM-30.
To insert and remove the Memory Stick Duo
1. Insert the Memory Stick Duo into the slot. If the Memory Stick Duo is inserted correctly, the display
shows Read ATRAC3 or Read MP3 according to current preferred type.
2. To re move the Memory Stick Duo, slightly push and release the Memory Stick Duo. See picture “1.” on page 4.
To set up repeat mode
Press the shuffle/repeat button (see “Overview” on page 7) repeatedly to select:
– repeat the current track.
1
– play all tracks then repeat from start.
– (shuffle) play all tracks in random order.
– play all tracks in random order then repeat again.
• repeat off – turns off the repeat function.
To adjust the bass sound
Press the bass button (see “Overview” on page 7) repeatedly to adjust the bass level.
To listen to music
1. Insert a Memory Stick Duo with music content into your HBM-30.
2. Press to start or stop playback.
To select track
Press or to go to the previous or next track.
To fast forward and rewind during playback
• To fast forward, press and hold .
• To rewind, press and hold .

Changing playback settings
In the playback menu, you can select the preferred track type to play, edit the track title, erase tracks or reformat the Memory Stick Duo.
Note: To enter the playback menu, you must stop playback and then press the menu button.
Preferred music type
ATRAC3 and MP3 files are stored differently on the Memory Stick Duo, therefore only one type can be handled at a time. Based on user preference, the HBM-30 starts in the selected type (ATRAC3 or MP3). If no files of the preferred type are found, but if files of the other type are detected, the HBM-30 automatically switches to the other type as the preferred type. Playback of ATRAC3 files is the default setting.

Handle phone calls

Once you have paired the HBM-30 with your phone, you can make and receive calls using the HBM-30 as long as it is turned on and within range of the phone – up to 10 m (30 ft) outdoors or up to 5 m (15 ft) indoors with no solid objects in between. See picture “2.” on page 5.
Note: Always make sure the Bluetooth operation mode in the phone is on when using the Bluetooth Music Handsfree.
Calling Line Identification
When you receive a call, the HBM-30 shows the phone number or the name of the caller if your phone and subscription support Calling Line Identification.
Making and receiving calls
Phone functionality is still available when the HBM-30 is playing music. You can make and answer calls using the buttons on the HBM-30.

To make a call using voice dialling
1. Make sure the phone and the HBM-30 are on and within range of each other. Press and hold .
2. After the beeps, perform voice dialling as usual. End the call by pressing .
To answer a call
1. When you receive a call, the HBM-30 pauses the music and rings. Press to accept the call. If the phone rings first, wait until the HBM-30 rings, then press .
2. Depending on the type of phone, press or to end the call. If the HBM-30 was playing music, it will resume playing.
To answer a second call
You have to use the phone keypad to answer and handle a second call, but you can still use the HBM-30 for talking and listening. Refer to the phone’s user documentation on how to handle more than one call simultaneously.
To reject a call
Press . The HBM-30 will resume playing.
Transferring the sound
Depending on the type of phone, you can transfer the sound to the HBM-30 during a call. The HBM-30 has to be on, paired with the phone, and within range.
To transfer the sound to the HBM-30
During a call, press and hold . The HBM-30 beeps until the sound has been transferred.
Note: To transfer the sound from the HBM-30 to the phone, refer to the phone’s user documentation.
Muting the microphone
You can mute the microphone during a call.
To mute the microphone during a call
• Press both and . A repeated beep is heard while the microphone is muted.
• Press and release both and again to resume the conversation.

Troubleshooting

No sound contact between HBM-30 and phone
The phone has to:
• be paired with the HBM-30.
• be within range of the HBM-30. Make sure that there are no solid objects, such as walls or furniture, in between the HBM-30 and the phone. See picture “2.” on page 5.
• support the Headset or the Handsfree profile.
• have Bluetooth operation mode set to On.
Note: If the HBM-30 has been in pairing mode for more than 10 minutes but pairing is not completed, the HBM-30 leaves the pairing mode and the Bluetooth function can not be used until you pair the HBM-30 with your phone (see page 9).
The HBM-30 is automatically switched off or does not switch on
• The battery power may be too low. Insert a new battery. After switching the HBM-30 off, wait for 2 seconds or more before switching it on again.
• Check correct orientation of your battery.

Display messages
Bad bit rate • The HBM-30 does not support
playback of MP3 files recorded at a higher bit rate than 192 kbps. Press to continue.
Hold • All buttons are locked except
and . Press on the side of the HBM-30 to unlock the buttons.
MS Full • You can erase tracks. Check that
both ATRAC3 and MP3 tracks are deleted. See page 11.
No MS •No Memory Stick Duo is inserted
when you try to use the music player.
• Wait until the Read message has disappeared before using the music player.
• If the error message persists, reformat using menu item Format
MS. See To reformat the Memory Stick Duo, page 11.
Pairing mode • You can leave pairing mode by

Unsupported The HBM-30 detects an
unsupported track type. HBM-30 does not support ATRAC-X content file playback, restricted content file playback, playback of MP3 files coded with bit rates over 192 kbps or encoders other than Fraunhofer or Lame 3.93 or higher. If the HBM-30 stops, press to continue playback. Record your track using the HBM-30 and the recording cable.
No track •The Memory Stick Duo is empty.

Wrong MS • Recording requires a MagicGate

• Remove and re-insert the Memory Stick Duo and wait a few seconds.
If the error persists, the contents of your MagicGate Memory Stick Duo may have become corrupted. Reformat the Memory Stick Duo with your HBM-30, and with no other device. See To reformat the Memory Stick Duo.
Voice dialling does not work
• Check if Bluetooth operation mode is set to On in your phone.
• Check if the HBM-30 is paired with your phone.
• Check if your phone supports voice dialling.
Memory Stick Duo
• The HBM-30 supports MagicGate Memory Stick Duo for both playback and recording.
• The HBM-30 supports Memory Stick Duo only for playback of MP3 files.
• If your Memory Stick Duo fails repeatedly, try to reformat using menu item Format MS. See To reformat the Memory Stick Duo, page 11.
Note: Reformatting a Memory Stick Duo or modifying its directory structure or contents should only be done using a MagicGate compliant device such as the HBM-30.

Guidelines for safe and efficient use
Note: Read this information before using your HBM-30
Bluetooth Music Handsfree.
Changes or modifications to this Bluetooth Music Handsfree not expressly approved by Sony Ericsson may void the user’s authority to operate the equipment.
Please check for any exceptions, due to national requirements or limitations, in usage of Bluetooth equipment before using this product.
Product care
• Do not expose your product to liquid or moisture or to humidity.
• Do not expose your product to extreme high or low temperatures.
• Do not expose your product to lit candles, cigarettes, or cigars, or to open flames etc.
• Do not drop, throw or try to bend the product as rough treatment could damage it.
• Do not use any other accessories than Sony Ericsson or Ericsson originals intended for use with this product. Use of non-original accessories may result in loss of performance, damage to the product, fire, electric shock or injury. The warranty does not cover product failures which have been caused by use of non-original accessories.
• Do not attempt to disassemble your product. The product does not contain consumer serviceable or replaceable components. Only Sony Ericsson service partners should perform service.
• Do not keep the product in an area prone to dust and dirt. Only use a soft damp cloth to clean your product.
• If you will not be using the product for a while, store it in a place that is dry, free from damp, dust and extreme temperatures. Remove the battery.
Radio frequency exposure
Your HBM-30 is a radio transmitter and receiver. When in operation, it communicates with a Bluetooth equipped mobile device by receiving and transmitting radio frequency (RF) electromagnetic fields (microwaves) in the frequency range 2400 to 2500 MHz. The output power of the radio transmitter is low, 0.001 watt.
Your HBM-30 is designed to operate in compliance with the RF exposure guidelines and limits set by national authorities and international health agencies when used with any compatible Sony Ericsson or Ericsson mobile phone.
Driving
Check the laws and regulations on the use of mobile phones, handsfree equipment, and music players in the areas where you drive.
Always give full attention to driving and pull off the road and park before making or answering a call if driving conditions so require.
RF energy may affect some electronic systems in motor vehicles such as car stereo, safety equipment etc. Check with your vehicle manufacturer’s representative to be sure that your mobile phone or HBM-30 will not affect the electronic systems in your vehicle.
Electronic equipment
Most modern electronic equipment is shielded from RF energy. However, certain electronic equipment is not, therefore:
Do not use your HBM-30 near medical equipment without requesting permission. If you are using any personal medical devices, e.g. a pacemaker or a hearing aid, please read in your mobile phone’s User’s guide for further information.

Aircraft
Turn your HBM-30 OFF before boarding any aircraft. To prevent interference with communication systems, you must not use your HBM-30 while the plane is in the air.
Blasting areas
Turn off all your electronic devices when in a blasting area or in areas posted turn off two-way radio to avoid interfering with blasting operations. Construction crews often use remote control RF devices to set off explosives.
Potentially explosive atmospheres
Turn off your electronic device when in any area with a potentially explosive atmosphere. It is rare, but your electronic device could generate sparks. Sparks in such areas could cause an explosion or fire resulting in bodily injury or even death.
Areas with a potentially explosive atmosphere are often, but not always, clearly marked.
Placing
Sony Ericsson recommends that the HBM-30 is worn in positions where it will not be subject to pressure since such pressure may result in bodily injury or damage to the product.
Children
Do not allow children to play with your HBM-30 since it contains small parts that could become detached and create a choking hazard.
Emergency calls
IMPORTANT!
This HBM-30 and the electronic device connected to the hands- free operate using radio signals, cellular and landline networks as well as user-programmed functions, which cannot guarantee connection under all conditions. Therefore you should never rely solely upon any electronic device for essential communications (e.g. medical emergencies). Remember, in order to make or receive calls, the hands-free and the electronic device connected to the hands free must be switched on and in a service area with adequate cellular signal strength. Emergency calls may not be possible on all cellular phone networks or when certain network services and/or phone features are in use. Check with your local service provider.
Battery information
HBM-30 supports primary and rechargeable AAA cells. Battery capacity may depend on the type and brand of battery.
A new battery or one that has not been used for a long period of time could have reduced capacity.
Do not expose the battery to extreme temperatures, never above +55°C (+131°F). For maximum battery capacity, use the battery in room temperature. If the battery is used in low temperatures, the battery capacity will be reduced.
Recycling the battery in your HBM-30
The battery in your HBM-30 must be disposed of properly and should never be placed in municipal waste. The Sony Ericsson Service Partner removing the battery will dispose of it according to local regulations.

Limited Warranty
Subject to the conditions of this Limited Warranty, Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications AB (Sony Ericsson), S-221 88 Lund, Sweden warrants this product to be free from defects in design, material and workmanship at the time of its original purchase by a consumer, and for a subsequent period of one (1) year. Should your Product need warranty service, please return it to the dealer from whom it was purchased or contact your local Sony Ericsson Contact Center to get further information.
What we will do
If, during the warranty period, this Product fails to operate under normal use and service, due to defects in materials or workmanship, the Sony Ericsson authorized distributors or service partners will, at their option, either repair or replace the Product in accordance with the conditions stipulated herein.
Conditions
1. The warranty is valid only if the original receipt issued to the original purchaser by the dealer, specifying the date of purchase and serial number, is presented with the Product to be repaired or replaced. Sony Ericsson reserves the right to refuse warranty service if this information has been removed or changed after the original purchase of the Product from the dealer.
2. If Sony Ericsson repairs or replaces the Product, the repaired or replaced Product shall be warranted for the remaining time of the original warranty period or for ninety (90) days from the date of repair, whichever is longer. Repair or replacement may involve the use of functionally equivalent reconditioned units. Replaced parts or components will become the property of Sony Ericsson.
3. This warranty does not cover any failure of the Product due to normal wear and tear, or due to misuse, including but not limited to use in other than the normal and customary manner, in accordance with instructions for use and maintenance of the Product. Nor does this warranty cover any failure of the product due to accident, modification or adjustment, acts of God or damage resulting from liquid.
4. This warranty does not cover Product failures due to improper repair installations, modifications or service performed by a non-Sony Ericsson authorized person.
5. Tampering with any of the seals on the Product will void the warranty.
6. THERE ARE NO EXPRESS WARRANTIES, WHETHER
WRITTEN OR ORAL, OTHER THAN THIS PRINTED LIMITED WARRANTY. ALL IMPLIED WARRANTIES, INCLUDING WITHOUT LIMITATION THE IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY OR FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, ARE LIMITED TO THE DURATION OF THIS LIMITED WARRANTY. IN NO EVENT SHALL SONY ERICSSON OR ITS VENDORS BE LIABLE FOR INCIDENTAL OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES OF ANY NATURE WHATSOEVER, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO LOST PROFITS OR COMMERCIAL LOSS, TO THE FULL EXTENT THOSE DAMAGES CAN BE DISCLAIMED BY LAW.

Die Bluetooth™ Freisprecheinrichtung HBM-30 mit MP3-Player ist ein Gerät zur Musikwiedergabe, das die Memory Stick Duo- Technologie mit einer portablen Freisprecheinrichtung kombiniert, die die Nahbereichsfunktechnik Bluetooth nutzt.
Beachten Sie den Abschnitt „Ergänzende Informationen“ auf Seite 39, bevor Sie das HBM-30 einsetzen.
Memory Stick Duo-Typen
Es gibt zwei Memory Stick Duo-Typen: – MagicGate Memory Stick Duo (mit dem Logo ) ist mit MagicGate ausgestattet, einer Technologie zum Schutz des Urheberrechts. Er wird zum Speichern von Multimediadaten genutzt. Das HBM-30 unterstützt den MagicGate Memory Stick Duo vollständig. – Memory Stick Duo ist nicht mit MagicGate ausgestattet. folgende Schritte erforderlich:
• Legen Sie eine Batterie oder einen Akku des Typs AAA ein (siehe Abbildung „1.“ auf Seite 4). Öffnen Sie das Batteriefach mithilfe einer Münze.
• Schieben Sie den Memory Stick Duo in das Fach, bis er einrastet.
• Schließen Sie den Kopfhörer an (siehe Abbildung „Übersicht“ auf Seite 24).
• Schalten Sie das HBM-30 ein. Halten Sie die Taste
, bis Sie den Startton hören oder SonyEricsson auf dem Display angezeigt wird. (Halten Sie erneut, um das Gerät auszuschalten.) Beachten Sie die Abbildung „1.“ auf Seite 4.
• Koppeln Sie das HBM-30 mit einem Mobiltelefon. Beim erstmaligen Einschalten der Bluetooth Freisprecheinrichtung HBM-30 mit MP3-Player befindet sich das Gerät automatisch im Koppelungsmodus. Weitere Informationen finden Sie unter „Koppeln“ auf Seite 26.Drücken Sie , wenn das HBM-30 jetzt nicht gekoppelt werden soll.
• Das Mikrofon befindet sich zwischen den Tasten und und sollte auf der Brust getragen werden. Hängen Sie sich das HBM-30 mit der Schlaufe um den Nacken oder befestigen Sie es mit dem Clip an Ihrer Kleidung. Beachten Sie die Abbildung „3.“ auf Seite 5. Bewegen Sie das HBM-30 während eines Anrufs nicht zu dicht an den Mund, da andernfalls Ihre Stimme verzerrt wird.
Batteriestatus
Der Ladestatus wird mit angezeigt, sofern die Batterie ausreichend Ladung aufweist. Ist die Ladung nahezu erschöpft, wird angezeigt. Eine Restladung bleibt unter Umständen verfügbar, wenn Sie das HBM-30 ausschalten und nach einiger Zeit wieder einschalten.
Schalten Sie das HBM-30 aus und tauschen
Sie die Batterie aus, um eine Beschädigung des
Sperren der Tasten
Memory Stick Duo zu vermeiden. Sie können die Tasten sperren, um versehentliche Tastenbetätigungen beim Tragen des HBM-30 zu vermeiden.

Koppeln

Das HBH-30 kann an Mobiltelefone und andere Geräte angeschlossen werden, die mit der Nahbereichsfunktechnik Bluetooth ausgestattet sind und das Profil Headset oder Handsfree unterstützen.
Koppeln des HBM-30 mit einem Telefon
Sie koppeln das HBM-30 mit dem Telefon, indem Sie es in die Liste der gekoppelten Geräte im Telefon einfügen. Nachdem Sie das HBM-30 mit dem Telefon gekoppelt haben, müssen Sie es neu koppeln, wenn Sie ein anderes Telefon benutzen möchten.
So koppeln Sie das HBM-30 mit einem Telefon:
1. Schalten Sie das HBM-30 aus.
2. Drücken und halten Sie und , bis Sie einen
Ton hören und auf dem Display Pairing mode angezeigt wird.
3. Das HBM-30 muss sich in einer Entfernung von maximal 1 m zum Telefon befinden.
4. Bereiten Sie das Telefon mithilfe der zugehörigen Bedienungsanleitung auf das Koppeln vor.
5. Geben Sie die Kennung 0000 für das HBM-30 ein.

6. Sobald das Koppeln abgeschlossen ist, wird das Symbol auf dem Display des HBM-30 angezeigt.
Zurücksetzen des HBM-30
Das HBM-30 kann auf die Werkseinstellungen zurückgesetzt werden. Dabei wird auch die vorhandene Koppelung gelöscht.
So setzen Sie das HBM-30 zurück:
Drücken und halten Sie und , während sich das HBM-30 im Koppelungsmodus befindet. Auf dem Display wird Factory Set angezeigt und das HBM-30 wird ausgeschaltet.

Musikwiedergabe

Sie können mit dem HBM-30 ATRAC3- oder MP3­Musikdateien abspielen.
So spulen Sie während der Wiedergabe vor oder zurück:
• Drücken und halten Sie zum Vorspulen .
• Drücken und halten Sie zum Rückspulen .
So setzen Sie den Memory Stick Duo ein und entnehmen ihn:
1. Schieben Sie den Memory Stick Duo in das Fach. Wird der Memory Stick Duo richtig eingesetzt, zeigt das Display Read ATRAC3 oder Read MP3 (abhängig vom derzeit bevorzugten Typ).
2. Sie können den Memory Stick Duo entnehmen, indem Sie leicht auf den Memory Stick Duo drücken, um ihn zu entriegeln. Beachten Sie die Abbildung „1.“ auf Seite 4.
So geben Sie Musik wieder:
1. Setzen Sie einen Memory Stick Duo mit Musikdaten in das HBM-30 ein.
2. Drücken Sie , um die Wiedergabe zu starten oder zu stoppen.
So wählen Sie den Titel aus:

So aktivieren Sie die Wiederholungsfunktion:
Drücken Sie mehrmals die Zufall/Wiederholung­Taste („Übersicht“ auf Seite 24), um eine der folgenden Optionen zu wählen:
– Aktuellen Titel wiederholen.

– Alle Titel abspielen und dann ab dem ersten Titel wiederholen.
– (Zufall) Alle Titel in zufälliger Reihenfolge wiedergeben.
– Alle Titel in zufälliger Reihenfolge wiedergeben und dann wiederholen.
• Wiederholung aus – Wiederholungsfunktion ausschalten.
So stellen Sie den Bass ein:
Drücken Sie mehrmals die Bass-Taste („Übersicht“ auf Seite 24), um den Bass einzustellen.

Ändern der Wiedergabeeinstellungen
Im Wiedergabemenü können Sie den bevorzugten Titeltyp für die Wiedergabe wählen, die Namen von Titeln bearbeiten, Titel löschen oder den Memory Stick Duo formatieren.
So wählen Sie den bevorzugten Musiktyp:
1. Drücken Sie im Wiedergabemodus die Taste um in das Wiedergabemenü zu gelangen.
2. Blättern Sie mit zu Ty pe . Drücken Sie dann .
3. Verwenden Sie oder , um zu ATRAC3 oder
Hinweis: Zum Öffnen des Wiedergabemenüs
müssen Sie die Wiedergabe stoppen und dann die Menütaste drücken.

ATRAC3- und MP3-Dateien werden unterschiedlich im Memory Stick Duo gespeichert. Deshalb kann immer nur einer dieser Typen genutzt werden. Das HBM-30 startet mit dem als Benutzervoreinstellung gewählten Typ (ATRAC3 oder MP3). Werden keine Dateien des gewählten Typs gefunden, aber Dateien des anderen Typs erkannt, aktiviert das HBM-30 automatisch den anderen Typ als bevorzugten Typ. Die Wiedergabe von ATRAC3-Dateien ist die Standardeinstellung.
So bearbeiten Sie den Namen des aktuellen Titels:
Hinweis: Nur die Namen von ATRAC3-Titeln können bearbeitet werden.
1. Drücken Sie im Wiedergabemodus die Taste um in das Wiedergabemenü zu gelangen.
2. Blättern Sie mit zu Edit. Drücken Sie dann

Sie können eine Stufe für die Aufnahmequalität einstellen. Die höchste Qualitätsstufe liefert annähernd CD-Qualität, benötigt aber sehr viel Speicher. Für einen Memory Stick Duo mit 64 MB gelten die folgenden Aufnahmezeiten:
