What are QR Codes?

A QR Code is a square, 2-dimensional Bar Code that can be read by Smart Phones loaded with an appropriate Bar Code or QR Code Reader App. The App reads the Bar Code image and then launches/uploads the speciﬁc information the code contains such as URLs, text, photos, videos, and so much more.

How to Use QR Codes

QR Codes are placed throughout this Features & Functions Guide and provide quick video references to the corresponding topics.

If you have a Smart Phone with a QR Code Reader App, you can snap the code with your phone and you’ll be provided a video with additional information pertaining to the topic. For example, in the Kia One Click Fuel Cap section, if you would like additional information, just snap the code with your phone and you’ll see a Kia Features & Functions Video.

QUICK TIPS

1. Having trouble scanning codes, check the following:

• The code should be centered and focused in your Smart Phone’s camera screen

• Consider moving your phone closer to or farther away from the code

• The code should be well-lit, without signiﬁcant shadow

• Avoid scanning from a signiﬁcant angle

• Conﬁrm that the phone’s app supports 2D QR Code Scanning.

Try another QR Code App, not all apps are created equal

2. After scanning, a ‘connecting’ message appears and then nothing happens or there’s a ‘connection error’ message. These messages typically indicate that your phone is having trouble connecting to the Internet

How to Snap a QR code

1. With your Smart Phone, download a QR Code Reader App. With many phones, you can do this through an App Store or Market

2. Open the QR Code Reader App on your phone

3. The App will utilize your phone’s camera. Center the code in the camera viewing area:

• With some Apps, as soon as the App

recognizes the code, it will launch the corresponding video

• With other Apps, you will have to snap or

“take a picture” of the code. The App will then launch the corresponding video

Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS)

The indicator functions as both Low Tire Pressure Light and TPMS Malfunction In dic ator.

If one or more tires is signiﬁcantly underinﬂated, the indicator will illuminate. Other causes for the indicator to illuminate are a spare tire without TPMS or a change in temperature (cold).

• Inﬂate tire(s) to speciﬁcations to turn o Low Tire Pressure Light . This speciﬁcation can be found on a label attached to the front driver’s door jamb

• The TPMS Malfunction Indicator will illuminate after it blinks for approximately one minute and remain lit when there is a problem with the Tire Pressure Monitoring System. See your dealer for service

•

QUICK TIPS

• Tire pressure should be checked with an accurate gauge at least once a month. Only adjust tire pressure on “cold tires”

• For proper maintenance, safety, and maximum fuel economy, you must always maintain recommended tire inﬂation pressures and stay within the load limits and weight distribution recommended for your vehicle

• After inﬂating your tire pressure to the recommended inﬂation or replacing a tire, it may take up to 20 minutes of continuous driving above 16 mph before the Low Tire Pressure Warning Light may turn o

• In winter or cold weather, the TPMS light may illuminate if the tire pressure was adjusted to the recommended tire inﬂation pressure during warm weather. Check tire pressure and adjust to recommended pressure

Fuel Eciency

There are several factors that contribute to your vehicle’s fuel eciency, including maintenance of your vehicle, driving style, environmental conditions, vehicle weight and vehicle aerodynamics. Below are tips on how to improve fuel eciency.

• Keep your vehicle in good condition with regular maintenance

REMINDER: Fuel range can vary depending on your vehicle’s fuel tank size, e.g. 12-gal. vs. 24-gal., even though the MPG may be the same

• Don’t let the engine idle longer than necessary

• Drive at a moderate speed, accelerating smoothly and

at a moderate rate

• Keep tires inﬂated to the recommended pressure

• Travel lightly, without carrying unnecessary weight

• Avoid placing items on roof racks

• Avoid hilly, winding or poor roads

Hybrid Indicators at Start-up

ECO GUIDE —Indicates how economically the vehicle is being driven.

 •Green zone: High eciency range

 • White zone: Normal eciency range

 •Red zone: Low eciency range

EV MODE —Illuminates when the

electric motor is powering the vehicle.

READY —Illuminates when the

hybrid system is operational. Even if the engine is o, the vehicle can be driven.

State of Charge (SOC) —Displays

the hybrid battery charge status.

Active ECO —Automatically activated each time the vehicle is started. Turn system ON/OFF using the ECO button

on the steering wheel.

 •Active ECO ON: Adjusts the engine, transaxle and A/C system to conserve fuel

 •Active ECO OFF: Provides more power when driving up steep roads or carrying heavy loads

Service Indicator —Illuminates when a malfunction occurs in the vehicle’s hybrid system. Have an authorized Kia

dealer address the concern as soon as possible.

Active ECO (ECODynamics)

Active ECO Mode A is identified on your instrument cluster by the “ECO” indicator. Active ECO helps to improve fuel efficiency by adjusting the performance of the engine, transaxle, and air conditioning for best possible fuel economy. Fuel economy depends on the driver’s driving habits and road conditions.

Active ECO is turned ON when the vehicle is started and the green ECO mode indicator is lit. Press the ECO button B on the steering wheel to turn the ECO Mode OFF.

When the ignition is cycled again, the Active ECO is turned ON again.

To improve your fuel eciency:

• Drive at a moderate speed, accelerating smoothly and at a moderate rate

• Keep tires inﬂated to the recommended pressure

• Be sure the wheels are properly aligned

Instrument Cluster - Energy Flow

Optima Hybrid’s instrument cluster displays the following hybrid system modes to inform the driver of its status.

EV Propulsion - The electric motor is moving the vehicle.

Power Assist - Both the electric motor AND the engine are moving the vehicle.

Power Reserve - While the engine powers the vehicle, it is also recharging the hybrid battery.

Vehicle Stop - The vehicle’s hybrid system is standing by.

Earth Mode - The more economically you drive, the more the ECO Level bar fills up. As you continue to maintain high fuel efficiency, the earth will start growing leaves.

Car Mode - Displays how economically the vehicle is being driven. The more economical, the more leaves will ﬂy o the vehicle. This display also includes an ECO Level bar at the top.

Energy Flow - Displays the current ﬂow of power between the Optima Hybrid’s main powertrain components. It’s similar to the Energy Flow Screen

Trip Fuel Economy - Displays fuel economy over the duration of a trip.

DRIVER’S PANEL

Engine Start/Stop Button*

To power up the hybrid system:

Depress the brake pedal.

Press the ENGINE START/STOP button while in Park. To

use the ENGINE START/STOP button, you must have the transmitter key fob on your person or inserted in the fob holder.

REMINDER: Never press the ENGINE START/STOP button while the

vehicle is in motion , except in an emergency. If the engine stops while the vehicle is in motion, this would result in loss of directional control and braking function , which could cause an accident.

Illuminates when the hybrid system is operational.

Even if the engine is off, the vehicle can be driven.

QUICK TIPS

To use electrical accessories:

• When in ACCESSORY position (Orange Light) D, press the ENGINE START/ STOP button while in the OFF position without depressing the brake pedal

•

When in ON position (Green Light) E,press the ENGINE START/STOP button while in ACC position without depressing brake pedal

• Keeping the vehicle in ACC or ON mode too long can discharge the vehicle’s bat tery.

Hill-Start Assist Control (HAC)

HAC momentarily activates and helps to prevent the vehicle from rolling backward when accelerating from a stop while on a steep incline.

HAC automatically activates whether the ESC is OFF or ON but does NOT activate when the ESC has malfunctioned.

REMINDER: HAC does not

operate when the gear shif t is in the P (Park) or the N (Neutral) position.

QUICK TIPS

When HAC is active (e.g., accelerating from a stop on an incline), you may notice that the brakes will momentarily remain engaged after you depress the accelerator.

DRIVER’S PANEL

Electronic Stability Control (ESC)

The ESC system is designed to help stabilize the vehicle during cornering maneuvers. It is a good idea to keep ESC turned on for daily driving whenever possible.

Press ESC button A to turn ESC OFF/ON.

REMINDER: ESC is active by default at vehicle start-up.

The ESC Indicator Light in the instrument cluster will

illuminate whenever ESC is in operation.

Instrument Panel Dimmer

With parking/headlights ON, press switch B up or down to adjust display brightness of the instrument panel illumination.

REMINDER: Door Mood lamp is a ﬁxed brightness and cannot be

adjusted.

The Voice Command feature in the Kia audio systems allows you to create speaker proﬁles in order to maximize recognition accuracy.

Hybrid Battery Vent (Air Intake)

The Hybrid Battery Vent, located behind the rear seats, is used to cool down the hybrid battery. For safety reasons, this vent should never be blocked. Doing so may cause the battery to overheat.

Occupant Detection System (ODS) / PASSENGER AIR BAG OFF Indicator

ODS detects the presence and position of the front passenger and adjusts or turns off air bag deployment accordingly.

Depending on the situation and the accident, the system may:

• Deploy air bag with lower force (small or out-ofposition occupant)

• Deploy air bag normally (full-size occupant or out-of-position occupant)

• Not deploy the air bag (empty seat)

If the system determines that the air bag should not be deployed, the “PASSENGER AIR BAG OFF” light will illuminate.

Child Safety Locks

Located on the rear edge of the rear passenger doors, insert the ignition key into the hole and turn the key to the LOCK position to disable the inner door handles from opening the rear doors.

Safety Belts

To properly fasten your safety belts:

1. Insert the tongue belt plate A into the buckle B

until it clicks

2. Position the lap portion of the belt across your

lap as LOW ON THE HIPS as possible C. Adjust the belt to a SNUG FIT by pulling up on the shoulder portion D.

Safety Belt Retractor Inertial Locks

• Inertial locks allow lap/shoulder safety belts to remain unlocked during normal vehicle operation for freedom of movement and increased comfort

• During a STRONG STOP, SUDDEN TURN OR COLLISION, safety belt retractors will automatically lock the belts
