Introduction
Symbols
This manual uses the following symbols so that you can recognize important messages at
a glance. Please read it in its entirety..
It indicates a hazardous situation which, if not avoided, could result in
death or serious injury.
It indicates a hazardous situation which, if not avoided, could result in
minor or moderate injury.
It indicates a situation which, if not avoided, could result in product
damage as well as property damage.
It indicates tips for better understanding or useful information.
Always ground the frame ground terminal or the ground terminal when using
a switching regulator. KEYENCE recommends the use of separate power
supplies in this situation.
Installation location
Avoid locations such as the following when installing the CA-DC21E:
• Locations where the unit is exposed to direct sunlight.
• Locations where the surrounding air temperature range exceeds 0
to +50°C. Locations prone to rapid temperature changes.
• Locations with poor ventilation.
• Locations where relative humidity exceeds 35 to 85% RH. Locations
subject to condensation.
• Locations where corrosive or flammable gasses are present.
• Locations where there is excessive dust, salt, or iron powder.
• Locations where the unit is exposed to splashes of substances
CAUTION
such as water, oil, or chemical agents.
• Locations where the unit is subject to direct vibrations or
mechanical shocks.
• Locations where the unit may be influenced by radiation noise or
static electricity.
• Separate the unit and the cables as far as possible from
high-voltage lines and power lines. Interference from such lines
may result in nonstandard operation or device failure.
Handling
• Avoid touching the unit during or i mmediately after use, since it may
become hot at these times. Doing so may result in burn injuries.
• Do not operate the unit after disassembling or modifying it. Doing
CAUTION
NOTICE
so may result in fire, electrical shock, or device failure.
• Do not look directly at the LED for extended periods of time. Doing
so may cause harm to your eyes.
• When connecting and disconnecting cables, always switch off the
power to the unit and any other devices connected to it. Failure to do
so may result in damage to the unit or to other connected hardware.
• When the unit becomes excessively dirty, apply a weak, neutral
detergent to a cloth and wipe away the dir t, then wipe the unit dry with a
soft cloth. Do not use benzene, thinners, or alcohol to clean the unit.
Doing so may result in the discoloration or deformation of the unit case.
Part Names and Functions
Safety Information for the CA-DC21E
General precautions
• Do not use this product for the purpose of protecting a human body
or a part of a human body.
• This product is not intended for use as explosion-proof product.
Do not use this product in a hazardous location and/or potentially
explosive atmosphere.
• When beginning or during operation, ensure that the parts and
functions are operating correctly.
• In the unlikely event of malfunction, ensure that the proper safety
equipment is in place to prevent damage to other equipment.
• Do not use outside of the rated specifications. Also, in the case of
disassembly or modification of the CA-DC21E, understand that the
functions and performance can no longer be guaranteed.
• In the case of the use of a KEYENCE product with that of another
device, due to different conditions of use or environment, the
functions or performance may not be satisfied. Use after adequate
examination.
* We make every effort to ensure products reach our customers without any damage.
However, if you encounter any defective, damaged, or missing parts, please contact
your nearest KEYENCE sales office.
Turn off the device immediately in any of the following situations.
Continuing to operate the device despite such a problem may result
in fire, electrical shock, or device failure. Contact your nearest
KEYENCE sales office for repairs.
• When there is a foreign object or liquid such as water, oil, or a
chemical agent inside the device.
• When the device has been subject to excessive mechanical shock
or when the case has been damaged.
• When the controller emits smoke, an unusual smell, or a strange noise.
Precautions on Regulations and Standards
CE Marking
When using the CA-DC21E in the Member State of European Union, be sure to read the
"Precautions on Regulations and Standards" in the user's manual accompanied with the
controller (CV Series, XG Series). Use this product in accordance with the instructions in
the user's manual.
LED elements are subject to a limited service lifetime. Because high
temperatures lead to degraded performance or damage, always use a
setting that generates the least amount compatible with application
NOTICE
requirements. Take precautions in order to avoid heat buildup, such
as the use of a cooling fan, installation using metal brackets, and
intermittent LED activation by means of external control input.
The amount of light generated is unstable when the light adjustment volume
is set near 0%. This is normal and does not indicate a problem with the
device. When using the device with continuous lighting, delay use after
turning on the device until the amount of light generated stabilizes.
Turn on the power to the CA-DC21E at about the same time as turning on the
power to the connected controller.
Installation
• Extension of the cable between the illumination and the controller
will result in decreased light quantity as a result of lowered voltage.
NOTICE
When control the illumination from the controller, up to four CA-DC21E units (eight
illumination units) can be connected. Remove the protection label from connector 2 on the
left side of the controller, and connect the CA-DC21E as shown in the following figure.
[For the CV-5000 Series]
Verify adequate light quantity before use.
• Do not use this device in combination with a non-KEYENCE LED
illumination device. Doing so may result in device failure.
Proper Operation
Compatible controllers
The CA-DC21E is a dedicated illumination expansion unit for the CV-5000 Series (second
edition or later) or the XG-7000 Series (Ver. 2.0 or later).
Controllers from other series cannot be used.
Power
Do not use the device with anything other than a 24 VDC power supply.
Doing so may result in fire, electrical shock, or device failure.
• The supplied attachment needs to be installed before installing the
Illumination expansion unit.
• Stop supplying the power to the CA-DC21E and to the controller when
connecting or disconnecting the CA-DC21E. Connecting or disconnecting
the CA-DC21E with the power being supplied may cause damage to the
controller or peripheral devices.
• Remove the protection label from the connector on the CA-DC21E only
when connecting the illumination expansion unit. Using the CA-DC21E
with the connector exposed may cause damage to the CA-DC21E.

DIP switch configuration
The output voltage for illumination can be changed by changing the DIP switch
configuration.
The factory default configuration of the DIP switch is shown with .
The output voltage can be changed individually for illuminations 1 and 2. The output
voltage at that time is common between the connector and the terminal block.
Incorrect output voltage settings may cause fire, electric shock, or
product damage. Use 12 V (factory default) when connected to a
KEYENCE emitter.
