Important information about your
Toyota encourages you and your family to take the time to read
Section 1−3 of this Owner’s Manual carefully. In t erms of helping
you understand how you c an receive the maximum benefit of the
occupant restr aint systems this vehicle provides, Section 1−3of
this Owner’s Manual is t he m ost important Sect ion f or you and
your fami ly to read.
Section 1−3 describes t he functi on and operation c oncerni ng seats,
seat belts, SRS ai rbags and child restraint systems of this vehicle
and s ome potential hazards you shoul d be aware of. These s ystems work together along with the over all s truct ure of this v ehicl e
in or der to provide occupant restrai nt in the event of a crash. The
effect of each system is enhanced when it is used properly and
together with other systems. No single occupant restraint system
can, by it self , provide you or your fami ly with the equal level of
restraint which these systems can provide when used together.
That is why it i s important for you and your family to understand
the purpose and proper us e of each of these systems and how
they r elate to each other.
The purpose of all occupant restr aint systems is to help reduc e
the possibility of death or ser ious injury in t he event of a collision. None of these systems, either individually or together, can
ensure that there is no injury in the event of collision. However,
the more you know about these systems and how to use them
properly, the greater your chances become of surv ivi ng an accident without death or serious injury.

AYGO WE 99E37E
Seat belts provide the primary restraint to all occupant s of the
vehicle, and ever y occ upant of the vehi cle s hould wear seat bel ts
properly at all times. Children should always be secur ed in c hild
restraint systems that are appropriate for their age and size. SRS
(Supplemental Restraint System) airbags ar e, as t heir names i mply, designed t o wor k with, and be suppl emental to, s eat belts and
are not subs titut es for them. SRS airbags can be v ery effec tiv e in
reducing the risk of head and chest i njuri es by prev enting cont act
of the head and chest with interior portions of the v ehic le.
In order to be effective, the SRS airbags must deploy with tremendous speed. The rapid deployment of t he SRS airbags makes
the SRS airbags themselves potential sources of death or seri ous
injury if an occupant is too cl ose to an airbag, or if an obj ect or
some part of his or her body has been placed between the
occupant and the airbag at the t ime of deploy ment. This is just
one exampl e of how the instr ucti ons in Sect ion 1−3ofthisOwner’s Manual will help ensure proper use of the occ upant restraint
systems, and increase the safety they can provide to you and
your fami ly in the event of an acci dent.
Toyota recommends you to r ead the prov isions in Section 1−3
carefully and refer to them as needed dur ing your time of ownership of this vehicle.

Without wireless remote control system
MS12024
Since the si de doors and back door can

When bringing a wireless remote control
key onto an aircraft, make sure you do
not press any buttons on the wireless r emote control key while inside the aircraft
cabin. If you are carrying a wireless remote c ontrol key in your bag etc., ensure
that the butt ons are not likely to be
pressed accidental ly. Pr ess ing a button

A transponder chip f or the engine i mmobilizer system has been placed in the head

Engine immobilizer system
MS12029
The engine immobilizer system is a
theft prevention system. When you insert the key in the engine switch, the
transponder chi p in the key’s head
transmits an electronic code to the vehicle. The engine will start only when
the electronic code in the chip corresponds t o the registered ID code for
the vehicle.
Never leave the keys inside the vehi cle
when you leave the vehicle.
The system is automatically set when either of the foll owing condit ions appl ies.
D When the engine s witc h is t urned from
the “ACC” to the “LOCK” pos ition.
D When 20 seconds hav e elapsed since
the engi ne switch is turned from the
“ON” to the “ACC” pos ition.
After opening the driver ’s door, inserting
the registered key in the engine switch
and turning it to the “ ACC” posit ion automatically cancel the system, which enables the engine to s tart.
The system is maintenance−fr ee.
For your authoriz ed Toyota dealer or workshop, oranother dulyqualified and
equipped professional, to mak e you a new
key with a built−in t ransponder chip, t hey
will need your key number and key. However, ther e is a li mit to the number of
additional keys that can be made for you.
KEYS AND DOORS
If you make your own duplicate key,
you will not be able to cancel t he system or start the engine.
NOTICE

If modif ied or removed, the proper
operation of the system cannot be
