for the 1552 Water Cooler
The 1552 Water cooler is intended to provide a uniform
supply of cold water for removing heat and facilitating
temperature control in a Parr 1281 Isoperibol
Calorimeter and the Parr 1563 Water Handling System.
In these applications, the water cooler is normally set to
deliver water at a nominal temperature of 10 °C (50 °F)
plus or minus 2.8 °C (5 °F).
INSTALLATION
Remove the cooler from its shipping carton and inspect
for any shipping damage. If damage is discovered,
report it immediately to the delivering carrier and retain
the shipping for inspection.
Connections and 3/8” tubing for connecting to the Model
1281 Parr Isoperibol Calorimeter will be found packaged
separately in the Calorimeter container.
Install the water cooler at a sufficient distance from the
calorimeter or water handling system so that heat from
the compressor will not affect other operations. If
operations are conducted in a room where the air
temperature is not closely controlled, it may be advisable
to install the cooler outside the room, or in a location
where heat from the compressor will not influence the
ambient temperature. In any installation, allow a
minimum clearance of 6 inches in front and top of the
unit, 3 inches in the rear, and at least 1 inch on the sides
for circulation.
Use 1/4” nylon tubing (furnished with the cooler) only for
water connections on the 1563 Water Handling System.
2 ea. 496VB Elbow, Union 1/4T Brass (for use w/115V)
2 ea. 232VB Conn.,Male 3/8NPTM X 1/4T (for use w/230V)
10 ft. HJ0025TB035 Nylon Tubing, ¼” Tube
Cut the tubing squarely. Connections are made by
pushing the tubing into the elbow and forcing it down as
far as it will go. Tighten the fitting swaging the ferrule
onto the tube.
Connect the water supply to the inlet fitting nearest the
outside of the top panel marked “Water In”.
Connect the cold water discharge line from the fitting
nearest the middle of the top panel and extend it to the
designated cold water connection on the 1563 Water
Handling System or to the cold water inlet on the 1281
Calorimeter.

START UP
Fill the cooler with water and purge all air from the
system. Check the power supply to be sure it matches
the voltage and frequency stamped on the nameplate,
then plug the cooler into an appropriate electric outlet. If
the fan does not start, disconnect the unit immediately
and remedy any electrical problem. A temperature
adjustment screw is located in an opening on the front
end of the cooler. To lower the water temperature, turn
the control screw clockwise.
MAINTENANCE
Clean the cabinet louvers and condenser fins
periodically with a brush, air hose, or vacuum cleaner.
Excess dirt and poor ventilation can inhibit cooling and
cause the compressor to trip the overload protector. The
motors are lifetime lubricated and require no attention. If
it becomes necessary to drain the system, there is a
drain plug located near the base of the unit.
If repairs are necessary, the Parr Instrument Company
will furnish the name of an authorized refrigeration repair
facility in the user’s area.
