This document provides a step by step interpretation of the technical specifications for installing
Seismic Restraint brackets on a 1-, 2-, and 3-cell cabinet.
The Omnicell Seismic Restraint kit contains the following parts.
It is the responsibility of the facility to acquire the specific anchor type required for each
installation.
Seismic Restraint Brackets
This document is divided into four sections that explain the processes that make up the overall
installation of Seismic Restraint Brackets:
Positioning the Brackets and Drilling the Holes
Mounting the Brackets
Fitting the Omnicell cabinet onto the Brackets
Note: The steps are sequential and should be performed in order.
Bracket Positioning
1. Locate the exact space the Omnicell cabinet will occupy permanently – take into account the
amount of space needed to house the Omnicell cabinet plus additional space to be able to
reach the switch at the rear of the PC Box.
2. Remove the two rear leveling feet from the Omnicell cabinet.
Caution: This procedure requires the Omnicell cabinet to be tilted and two people are needed to
ensure that no injuries occur, and that the Omnicell cabinet is not damaged.
a. Tilt the cabinet toward the front of the unit, one person pushing from the back and the
second stabilizing the unit.
b. Slide a riser block (at least four inches high) between the frame and the floor at the back of
the unit as shown in Figure 1-1.
Figure 1-1. Prop the cabinet with a block
c. While one person stabilizes the unit in the front, the second person unscrews the leveling
the feet as shown in Figure 1-2.
Figure 1-2. Unscrew the leveling feet
3. Remove the block and place the seismic brackets in their approximate locations.
The cabinet will need to be away from the wall an additional ½ inch during this step so that the
4. Mark the position of the brackets on the floor as shown in Figure 1-3.
Figure 1-3. Mark the position of the brackets on the floor
5. Have a contractor drill eight holes in the exact locations marked.
It is the responsibility of the structural engineer of record to authorize any permanent changes (i.e., drill
Note:
holes) to the floor of the facility. Omnicell employees should never perform any procedures that involve
permanently modifying the facility’s structure.
Brackets/Anchors Installation
Note: If it is necessary to hammer the anchors, take care not to damage the threads.
1. Expand the anchor by tightening nut to the specified manufacturer’s specification.
Figure 1-4. Install the anchor/bracket
2. Move the cabinet onto the brackets.
3. Once positioned, ensure each bracket is away from the side of the cabinet by approximately 1/
16 inch.
Note: The casters may come in contact with the mounting bolts, making the cabinet difficult to move.
4. Transfer the locations of the dowel pins on the brackets to the cabinet and mount the caps with
½ inch bolts.
5. Using a hammer, mark the location of the pins on the cabinet as shown in Figure 5.
Figure 1-5. Mark the pin locations
6. Remove the cabinet from the brackets.
7. Using a hammer, center-punch the cabinet at the locations of the dowels to make drilling
easier, then drill four ½ inch diameter mounting holes (two in the front and two in that rear) in
the cabinet as shown in Figure 6 and Figure 7.

Cabinet Fitting
1. Move the Omnicell cabinet onto the brackets and seat against the back surface of the brackets.
