2. Preliminary Check of the Case
CAUTION
Check the product before use.
Before using the case underwater, be sure to confirm that the case is leak-free by performing the preliminary test before installing the camera. After installing the camera, perform the water leakage test again.
Preliminary test
1. Confirm that the case’s waterproof packing is free of sand, dirt or other foreign matter. If any foreign matter is attached, remove it completely.
2. Before installing the digital camera in the case, immerse the empty case at the water depth at which you intend to use it to confirm that there is no water leakage.
3. Main causes of water leakage are as follows.
Waterproof packing damage, cracks, deterioration or
deformation.
Sand, fibers, hair or other foreign matter sticking to the
waterproof packing or the waterproof packing contact surface.
: •
The best way to check for water leakage is to immerse the case at the water depth at which you intend to use it. If this is too difficult, water leakage also can be checked at a shallow depth with no water pressure. It is important to always perform this test.
If the preliminary test should show water leakage with normal handling, stop using the case and contact your dealer or nearest Olympus Service Station (listed on the rear page of this instruction manual).

Tips
As the case is transparent, water drops entering into it can be seen easily.
If there is something wrong with the waterproof packing, 3 seconds is long enough for water to get inside. Are there air bubbles coming out between the lids? Please check carefully.
Remove the case from the water and check that there is no water in the bottom of the case. Is there any water trickling down?
Check carefully for air bubbles! Do not perform any operation yet, but just observe.
Remove the case from the water and check that there is no water in the bottom of the case. Be sure to check very carefully.
Check carefully for air bubbles! Try operating the buttons used most frequently and check carefully for air bubbles! If there is still no water inside, everything is OK!
Remove the case from the water and check once more that there is no water in the bottom of the case.

5. Handling After Shooting
CAUTION
CAUTION
Wipe off any water drops.
Once you’re back on dry land, wipe any water off the case. Use air or a soft fiber-free cloth to thoroughly wipe water or dirt from between the front and rear lids, buttons, etc.
:•If any water remains between the front and the rear lids,
it may spill inside when the case is opened. Take special care to wipe off all water drops.
• When opening the case, make sure that no water can drip from your hair or body onto the case and the camera.
• Before opening the case, make sure that your hands or gloves are free of sand, fibers or other foreign matter.
• Do not open or close the case in areas exposed to water splashing or spraying, blowing sand, etc. If this cannot be avoided because you have to change the battery or the image storage medium, place a sheet or similar object downwind and make sure that water or sand is kept away from the camera.
• Take care not to touch the digital camera, battery or memory medium when your hands are wet.
Take out the digital camera.
Open the case carefully and remove the digital camera from the case.
:•When the case is open, always place it down with the
waterproof packing side facing up. If the case is put down with the waterproof packing facing down, dust or other foreign matter may get on the waterproof packing or the surface that comes in contact with it and may cause water leakage the next time the case is used.
• Please read the digital camera’s instruction manual for details on image storage, transfer, editing, etc.
E-17
Wash the case with fresh water.
CAUTION
CAUTION
After removing the camera, seal the case and wash it thoroughly in fresh water as soon as possible. After use in or near sea water, it is important to immerse the case in fresh water long enough to remove any salt.
:•Water leakage may be caused when the case is
exposed to local water pressures above its maximum limit. Before washing the case with fresh water, make sure you have removed the digital camera.
•Drying the case while there is still salt on it may cause deterioration. Always wash off any salt after use.
Dry the case.
After washing with fresh water, use a soft, dry, lint-free cloth to wipe off any water drops, then dry the case completely at a well-ventilated and shady location in the shade.
:•Do not use hot air from a hair drier or similar device to
dry the case. Also, do not expose the case to direct sunlight, as this may accelerate deterioration and deformation of the case and waterproof packing, leading to leakage. When wiping the case, take care not to scratch it.
