USING YO UR PHONE

Before using your telephone you mu st ensure that:

Each base unit is placed at least fiv e feet apart.

The antenna is r aised to the vertical positio n.

Making a Call

1. Lift the handse t an d/or press TALK.

‘AQUIRING LINK’ blinks in the display while trying to connect to the base unit. (This message might not be shown if con nec tion is established quickly.)

The ‘Talk’ icon appears in the display and line key lights when connected.

2. Enter the number to be call ed when dial tone is hear d.

The number dialed will appear on the display.

3. To disconnect, pr es s TALK and replace the ha nds et to the charging unit.

If there is no connection to the base unit, an error tone is heard, ‘NO SERVICE’ is temporarily displayed on the LCD and the telephone enters standby mode.

Receiving a Call

1. While the telephone is ringing, lift the handset and/or press any key.

‘AQUIRING LINK’ blinks in display while trying t o connect to ba se unit. (Thi s message might not be shown if connectio n is es tablished quickly.)

2. If th e F1-F4 key is pressed, the han ds et tries to establis h c onnection with the base unit.

‘AQUIRING LINK’ is not shown in the display.

‘TALK’ icon appears in the display , the line key lights when connected and the calling party’s number may appear in the display (if your system is equipped with Caller ID).

3. To disconnect, pr es s TALK and replace the ha nds et to the charging unit.

If there is no connection to the base unit, an error tone is heard, ‘NO SERVICE’ is temporarily displayed on the LCD and telephone enters standby mode.

Before plugging the telephone line into your new telephone, the rechargeable nickel -cadmium ba ttery pack must be fully c harged. Charg e the battery for approximately five to eight hours without interruption.

Programming Mode

1. Press and hold , and # at the same time, then press TALK.

‘F1=LK01’ shows in the display and the F1 LED flashes red.

2. Press MUTE to select the function/line key to program.

(LK01 - LK04 an d Off- hook Ring)

3. Press R/VOL key repeat edly to scroll options for each line key.

(LK01 - LK16, LNR/SPD, Recall, FNC, or ANS)

4. Press TALK to exit programming mode.

When initially installed, the four function keys default to line keys 1-4 respectively and off-hook ringin g defaults to ON.

Redialing

Press TALK then REDIAL to dial the last number in memory.

The station dial limit is 32 digits and redial stores up to 32 digits in memory.

Holding

1. Duri ng a c all, press HOLD on the handset.

The (F1 ~ F4) LED in use flashes.

2. To return to the held call, press the associated line key (F1 ~ F4).

Tran sf erring a Ca ll

1. Duri ng a c all, press TRANSFER.

2. Dial th e number of the tran s fer destination.

3. Wait for the party to ans wer (optional).

4. Press TALK to hang up and complet e the transfer.

Muting

1. Press MUTE during conv er s ation.

The ‘TALK’ icon blinks and the voice through the m ic r ophone is muted.

2. Press MUTE again to cancel the muted condition. (Finishing the conversation also cancels the mute condition.)

The ‘TALK’ icon stops blinking.

Conferencing

This feature allows the user to set up a 3-party conference.

1. Duri ng a c onversation, press CONF.

2. Dial th e number for the sec ond conference party.

3. Press CONF again to establish a 3-party con ference.

Receivin g Volume

1. Duri ng a c onversation, press R/VOL to change the ear speaker volume setting.

The telephone has four receiv er v olume levels: Low, Medium, High, Maximum.

2. Continue to press R/VOL until the desired volume is s elected.

When you hang up, the telephone retains the last selected volume.

Ring Tone/Volume

In standby mode, press R/VOL to change the ring tone and volume.

In standby mode, press R/VOL.

The selecte d tone and volume rings for about tw o s ec onds. The displa y shows ring tone: Type A – High/Low, Type B – High/Low, Type C – High/ Low, OFF – Vibrate.

If R/VOL is pressed while the ringer tone is sounded, the handset stops ringing and goes to the next tone set ting.

The LCD displ ay disappears after the selected tone/volume rings for about two seconds.

Ringer ON/OFF Slide Switch

When the ringer ON/OFF slide switch (located at s ide of handset) is tur ned off, the handse t does not ring or vibrate and the ringer ‘OFF’ icon app ear s in the display. When the ring ‘OFF’ ic on appears and th e terminal is idle fo r five minutes, th e r ing ‘OFF’ icon turns off to sav e battery life. When operation resumes, t he r ing ‘OFF’ icon reappears.

Vibrator Mode

If the ring tone selection is ‘Ring OFF’ when the slide switch is on and the handset is not on the charger, the handset vibrates when there is an incoming call.

If the handset is on the charger and ring tone selecti on is ‘Ring OFF’, the ha ndset rings as ‘Rin g Type-A Low’.

Desk/Cordless Switching

switching between Cordless and Desk modes. Press Cordless to select D

The REDIAL key can be used to switch from Desk to Cordless mode only. At default, the REDIAL key can on ly per form the redial function.

Programming Desk/Cordless Softkey Switching (Redial key)

This feature switches from Desk to Cordless mode only.

1. Make sure the base unit is in Desk mode.

2. Remo v e the battery.

3. Press and hold the

and # keys on the ha nds et at the same time.

4. Install the battery while pr es s ing and holding these keys.

5. After the handset beeps one time, release the keys .

At this point the handset is in the set up mode.

6. Press HOLD to disp lay the current mode. Digital (Redial)

7. Press F2 and then HOLD.

The handset displays Digital (F8). This changes the program of the REDIAL key to the Desk/Cordless S oft k ey S witching mode. Redial functionality is no longer available.

8. Press TALK once to restore the handset to standby mode.

9. To test this feature, press REDIAL once.

The base unit automaticall y ch anges from Desk to Cordless. This is a one time switching operation only.

If nece ssary, F1-F4 can be programmed for redial function.

10. The REDIAL ke y ca n be restored for re dial function only by entering setu p m ode, pressing F3 and then HOLD.

The handset dis plays Digital (Redial). This means that the REDIAL key has been restored for redial function only.

11. Press TALK once to restore the handset to standby mode.

Changing Channels

During the conversation if the user presses CHAN, the ‘TALK’ icon starts blinking. The ‘T ALK’ icon stops blinking when handset completes channel ch ange.

During channel change, other t elephone functions are not available.

Multiple base and handset units shou ld not be closer than 20 feet at any time .

Radio interference causes in terruptions in conversation. W hen this happens, y our unit is not defective. When noise continues, move to a different location while you talk. (Y ou might even need to move the base unit.) When the situation persists, contact National Technical Assis tance Center.

Traveling Out of Range

If function keys (F1 ~ F4) are pressed and no connection is established within five seconds, the telephone ti m es out and returns to standby mode.



When using the TALK key, the handset sounds an error tone and ‘NO SERVICE’ displays in the LCD.



While talking, if the handset cannot receive a signal from the base unit in approximately 35 seconds, it emits an error tone and goes to standby mode.

Charging the Battery

1. Remo v e the handset battery cover.

2. Slide the battery into t he handset.

3. Repla c e t h e battery c ov e r.

4. Place the handset in the front slot of the charging unit to charge.

LED 1 lights. A spare battery can be placed in the back slot of the charging unit; which lights LED 2.

Low Battery Indicator

The handset has v is ual and audibl e indicators to warn of low-battery.

In standby mode, the handset displays the battery ‘LOW’ icon. All LEDs and LCD messages are cleared and keys are disab led. The battery low alert tone emi ts every 15 seconds fo r three minutes .

In talk mode, the ha nds et displays the battery ‘LOW’ icon. All keys and functions are available. The battery low alert tone emits ever y three seconds until the conversation ends.

After the handset has been on the char ger for one minute, the battery low co ndition cancels, the battery icon turns off and the battery low tone stops.

Before pl ugging the te lephone line into your new telephone, the recharge able nickel-cadmium battery pack must be fully charged. Charge the battery for approximately five to eight hours without inter ruption.

If ‘low’ batt ery ha ppens dur ing a co nversat ion, yo u have 30 seconds to switc h the low battery with a charged battery before automatically disconnecting.

Cleaning Battery Contacts

To mainta in a good charge, it is im por tant to clean all bat tery contacts on the handset and base about once a month. Use a dry cloth or, if necessary, use a pencil eraser. Do not use any liquids or solvents.

Beltclip Installation

1. Inser t the beltclip into the holes on each side of the handset.

2. Press down firmly until it clicks into the holes.

3. To remove th e beltclip , pu ll both sides of the beltclip out of the hol es.

Headset Installation

Your telephone can be used with an optional headset. To use this feature, simply plug the headset into the headset jack on the handset. Your telephone is r eady for handsfree conversation.
