PowerConnections

TheZ-7200operates froma 12volt batterysystem. Attachthe powercabletoan accessory or power buss. Ifyou have problems with

electrical interference, then attach thecabledirectlytothe battery. Elec- trical interference shows as random dots on the displaywhenever the

NOISE

Minimize electrical noise by routingthe powercableaway from otherpossible sourcesofelectrical interference. Oneofthelargest noise

generators istheengine'swiring harnessthat runsfromtheenginetothe instrument panel. Thisharnessusuallycontainsawireforthetachometer

which radiates RF (radio frequency) energy. For best results, keep the

powerand transducer cables away fromthe engine wiring. Also, bilge pump wiring can sometimes radiate noise so try to keepthe 7-7200's

cables awayfromthose wires.

VHF radio antenna cables radiate HF energy at higher power

levelsthan eventheengine'swiringharness. ItisimportanttokeeptheZ-

7200'spowerand transducer cables as far awayas possible from VHF radio cables.

Ifinterference begins atslowboat speeds, worsening astheboat

is acousticnoise, or cavitation. This noise is notelectrical, but rathermechanically induced noisefrom the transducer. Stoptheboat, puttheengine inneutral, andincrease the

Rpm. Ifthe noisedoes not increase onthe display, then it is cavitation. Usually, air bubbles passing over the face of the transducer create

acousticnoise.Thefasteraboattravels,themoreairbubblesincrease and

generate noise on To eliminate this problem, read the transducerowner'smanualforproper mountingtechniques.

TRANSDUCER
