This feature converts all echoes to short

horizontal linesonthedisplay'sfarrightside.

The graph continues to operate normally.

FASTRAI<givesyou a rapid updateofcondi- tions directlyunderthe boat. This makes d

usefulforicefishing,orwhenyou'refishing at anchor. Since the unit is not moving, fish

signals are long, drawnoutlines onanormal chartdisplay. FASTRAKconverts thegraph to a vertical bar graph that, with practice, makes ausefuladditiontofishing atastation- ary location.

To turn FASTRAKon, pressthe menu key twice, then press the key adjacent to the "TURN FASTRAI< ON" label. Toturn it off,

repeatthe same steps. The "TURN FAS- TRAK OFF" label appears instead of the "TURN FASTRAKON" label.

The large digital selection erases the chart and shows only the digital bottomdepth in large digital numbers. Pressing themenu keygives only

one menu pagewhichisdifferent fromothermenus. Thismenu lets you

gobacktochartinformation, returning the digital displaytothe medium

size, or adjustthedepth alarm. Returning tothechart also restores the normalmenu operation.

FISHl.D.

The Fish l.D. feature identifies targetsthat meet certainconditions as fish. The micro-computer nalyses all echoesandeliminates surface clutter,thermoclines, and othersignalsthat areundesirable. In most instances, remaining targetsarefish. The Fish 1.0. featuredisplays symbolsonthe screen in placeoftheactualfishechoes. Thereare fourfish symbolsizes:tiny, small, medium, and large. Theseareused to designate the relative size between targets. In otherwords, it displaysa small fishsymbolwhenitthinks atarget is a small fish, a mediumfish symbolon alargertarget,etc.

The micro-computer is sophisticated, but itcan befooled. It cannot distinguish between fishandothersuspended objectssuchas trot- lines, turtles, submerged floats airbubbles, etc. Individual treelimbs extendingoutwards froma group oflimbs isthe hardestobjectforthe Fish l.D. featureto distinguish fromfish. You may see Fish l.D. symbolsonthe screen whenactually, thereare nofish. Practice with the unit inboththe Fish l.D. mode andwithoutto becomemore familiarwith the Fish l.D. feature.

Increasethe chart speed by pressing the

keyadjacent totheuparrow ordecrease it by pressing the key adjacent to the down arrow. The percentage ofchart speed in

usechanges asthe arrowkeys are pressed.

Thebarchartalsogivesagraphical indica- tion of the chart speed. You can see the

changeon the screen (bothon the menu and onthe chart record) as you press the

keys. After you'vemade the adjustment, pressthekeyadjacent totheCLEARkeyto

erase the menu.

Tostopthechart, press thekeyadjacent to the"STARTSTOP"label.Repeatthisstep

to startthechartagain.

The deep alarmadjustsandactivates exactly likethe shallow alarm.

The only difference istheSound the deepalarm makeswhenthe bottomgoesdeeperthanthe alarm depth. Thistone isdifferentso you can tell by the sound whichalarm wastriggered.

When the Ultraisfirst turned on, theaudioalarm is automatically

Toturn the ZoneAlarm off, returntotheZoneAlarm menu, then press the key adjacent tothe "OFF"label.

DEPTH ALARM

The DepthAlarm works offthe bottom signal only. Noother echo will triggerthis alarm. The Depth Alarm isactually two differentalarms. It consistsofashallowalarm andadeepalarm. The shallowalarm

soundsa warningtone whenthe bottom signal goesshallowerthanthe alarmset point. Thedeep alarm sounds whenthe bottomsignal goes deeperthan the alarm setpoint. Use the shallowalarm to warnyou of shallowwater. Usethe deepalarm toalertyou todeeperwater, such as a drop-off.

Toturn the Depth Alarmon, press theALARMkey. Next, pressthe keyadjacenttothe Depth Alarmlabel.

DIGITAL SONAR

Whenthe Ultraisturnedon forthe firsttime,

thedigitaldepthdisplay is located atthe top left cornerofthescreen. Thisdisplaycomes

from a separate digital sonar built into the Ultra. Itdisplays onlythebottomdepth. Ifit loses the bottom,the last known depth will flash on the display. Whenthe digital finds the bottom, it will automatically displaythe bottomdepth again.

NOISE REJECTION

The Ultra'snoiserejection feature isan effective tool in combating noise. In sonarterms,noise isanyundesiredsignal. Itiscausedbyelectrical and mechanical

sources such as bilge pumps, engine ignitionsystems andwiring, air bubbles passingoverthefaceofthetransducer, even vibration from the engine. In all cases, noisecanproduceunwantedmarks on the display.

NOISE

REJECTION

The Ultrahas atwo step noiserejection system. Whentheunit is turnedon, the noiserejection is on normal. Ifyou havenoiseproblems

(identified by random lines or dotson the display), trychangingthe noiserejection leveltohigh.

To do this, first pressthe menu key seventimes. Now pressthe key adjacenttothe "SET NOISE REJECTION" label.

ZOOM - MANUALMODE

When you pressthezoomkeywhiletheunit is in the manual mode, the screen shown belowappears. Theunit is automatically placedin the 4Xzoommode. Fora 2Xzoom, simply pressthekey adjacentto

the 2X14Xlabel. Fora splitscreen zoom, pressthe key adjacentto the SPLIT/FULL label. Remember, the ULTRA won'ttrackthebottom signalwhileit'sinthemanual mode.
