The Fish l.D. feature identifies targetsthat meet certainconditions as fish. The micro-computer nalyses all echoesandeliminates surface clutter,thermoclines, and othersignalsthat areundesirable. In most instances, remaining targetsarefish. The Fish 1.0. featuredisplays symbolsonthe screen in placeoftheactualfishechoes. Thereare fourfish symbolsizes:tiny, small, medium, and large. Theseareused to designate the relative size between targets. In otherwords, it displaysa small fishsymbolwhenitthinks atarget is a small fish, a mediumfish symbolon alargertarget,etc.
The micro-computer is sophisticated, but itcan befooled. It cannot distinguish between fishandothersuspended objectssuchas trot- lines, turtles, submerged floats airbubbles, etc. Individual treelimbs extendingoutwards froma group oflimbs isthe hardestobjectforthe Fish l.D. featureto distinguish fromfish. You may see Fish l.D. symbolsonthe screen whenactually, thereare nofish. Practice with the unit inboththe Fish l.D. mode andwithoutto becomemore familiarwith the Fish l.D. feature.

soundsa warningtone whenthe bottom signal goesshallowerthanthe alarmset point. Thedeep alarm sounds whenthe bottomsignal goes deeperthan the alarm setpoint. Use the shallowalarm to warnyou of shallowwater. Usethe deepalarm toalertyou todeeperwater, such as a drop-off.

Whenthe Ultraisturnedon forthe firsttime,

NOISE REJECTION
The Ultra'snoiserejection feature isan effective tool in combating noise. In sonarterms,noise isanyundesiredsignal. Itiscausedbyelectrical and mechanical
sources such as bilge pumps, engine ignitionsystems andwiring, air bubbles passingoverthefaceofthetransducer, even vibration from the engine. In all cases, noisecanproduceunwantedmarks on the display.
NOISE
REJECTION
The Ultrahas atwo step noiserejection system. Whentheunit is turnedon, the noiserejection is on normal. Ifyou havenoiseproblems
(identified by random lines or dotson the display), trychangingthe noiserejection leveltohigh.
To do this, first pressthe menu key seventimes. Now pressthe key adjacenttothe "SET NOISE REJECTION" label.
ZOOM - MANUALMODE
When you pressthezoomkeywhiletheunit is in the manual mode, the screen shown belowappears. Theunit is automatically placedin the 4Xzoommode. Fora 2Xzoom, simply pressthekey adjacentto
