The ShareCenter™ Shadow 2-Bay Network
Storage, when used with internal SATA drives*,
enables users to share documents and les
with other users on a oce network. Users
can gain remote access to their les over the
Internet using the built-in web/le server
or the secure FTP server. Keep data safe by
giving rights to specic users or groups and
assign them to folders with specic read/
write permissions. This is ideal for an oce
environment with sensitive employee-specic
data. The ShareCenter™ Shadow also supports

Do more with powerful add-ons

The availability of four dierent Hard Drive
modes (Standard, JBOD, RAID 0, RAID 1)
allows users to choose the conguration best
suited to their needs. Standard mode creates
two separately accessible Hard Drives. JBOD
combines both drives to create a single, easy
to use volume. RAID 0 combines both drives
in a “striped” conguration, which provides
the highest performance when using a
Gigabit Ethernet connection. RAID 1 creates
a copy of your data on both drives, providing
maximum protection; if one drive fails
while congured as RAID 1, the unaected
drive continues to function as a single drive
until the failed drive is replaced. The new
drive will then be re-mirrored, allowing the
ShareCenter™ Shadow to return to its full
level of protection.

Share a USB printer or scanner on the
network by connecting it to the USB 2.0 port.
You may also plug in an external Hard Drive
or ash storage device and share it with
the entire network. A convenient USB push
button allows you to instantly copy the
data on a USB ash storage device to the
NAS. Additionally, the ShareCenter™ Shadow
supports UPS monitoring via USB to help
maintain data integrity during a power failure.

Mirroring Hard Drives with RAID 1
technology

Backing up to a regular Hard Drive oers a
basic level of protection. But what if that Hard
Drive fails? Using the ShareCenter™ Shadow
with two internal SATA drives and RAID 1
technology, users can mirror the two drives
(i.e. duplicate data on both drives), ensuring
maximum protection of valuable data. If one
drive fails, the other continues to function as a
single drive until the failed drive is replaced.

internal SATA drives. To avoid data incompatibility in RAID
1 operation, use SATA drives from the same manufacturer.
Formatted drive capacity for RAID 1

operation is dependant
on the drive capacity of the lowest-sized drive. May
not work with older generation SATA drives. For a list

ShareCenter™ Shadow

What this product does

The ShareCenter™ Shadow, when used with
internal SATA drives

, enables oces to share
documents and les across the network and
on the Internet, so employees can easily
access them. This enclosure also allows for
the creation of a central network point for
backing up les and the built-in RAID 1
mirroring technology protects these les
from drive failure. Add-on applications can
be installed to further extend functionality.

Robust software included

The included CD contains D-Link’s Storage
Utility, which allows users to locate the
ShareCenter™ Shadow anywhere on the
network. Once located, they can use the
utility to map the Hard Drive(s) so they
will appear in “My Computer” on their PC.
Backup software is also included on the CD,
allowing users to backup valuable les from
a computer to the ShareCenter™ Shadow
manually, according to a schedule, or in
real-time.
