Introduction

Features

The DCH-Z310 mydlink™ Z-Wave Smoke Alarm is a wireless early warning detection system that warns you of developing
res by broadcasting audible alarms via its built-in horn. Based on Z-Wave Plus™ technology, it oers longer battery life, faster
operation, better RF coverage, and easier installation while keeping compatibility with classic Z-Wave™ products. You can set
an alarm via the mydlink™ Home app so when you’re away, the DCH-Z310 will be enabled and ready to send signals to a hub
such as the mydlink™ Home Connected Home Hub. When the alarm is triggered, it will generate an 85 dB (max) audio alarm
while pushing instant notications to your mobile device, so you can stay informed from wherever you are.

Works With Other D-Link Connected Home Devices

The mydlink™ Z-Wave Smoke Alarm can trigger other D-Link Connected Home devices, so you can customize your own home
automation system to suit your purposes.

touch®, and Android™ devices. Its intuitive user interface and simple instructions let you easily manage your automated devices

Wireless Installation Factors

The mydlink™ Z-Wave Smoke Alarm connects to your home automation network using your existing wireless network. Keep in
mind, however, that the number, thickness, and location of walls, ceilings, or other objects that the wireless signals must pass
through, may limit the range. Typical ranges vary depending on the types of materials and background RF (radio frequency)
noise in your home or business. The key to maximizing wireless range is to follow these basic guidelines:

1. Keep the number of walls and ceilings between the extender and other network devices to a minimum - each wall or
ceiling can reduce your adapter’s range by up to 98 feet (30 meters). Position your devices so that the number of walls
or ceilings is minimized.

2. Be aware of the direct line between network devices. At a 45-degree angle, a wall that is 0.5 meters thick (1.5 feet)
appears to be almost 1 meter (3 feet) thick. At a 2-degree angle it can appear over 14 meters (45 feet) thick! Position
devices so that the signal will travel straight through a wall or ceiling (instead of at an angle) for better reception.

3. Building materials make a dierence. A solid metal door or aluminum studs may have a negative eect on range. Try
to position access points, wireless routers, and computers so that the signal passes through drywall or open doorways.
Materials and objects such as glass, steel, metal, walls with insulation, water (sh tanks), mirrors, le cabinets, brick, and
concrete can degrade your wireless signal.

4. Keep your product away (at least 3-6 feet or 1-2 meters) from electrical devices or appliances that generate RF noise.

Hardware Installation

Choosing a Location

For complete coverage in residential buildings, smoke sensors should be installed in all rooms, halls, storage areas, basements
and attics. The minimum coverage is one sensor on each oor and one in each sleeping area.

• Install the smoke sensor as close to the center of the ceiling
as possible. If this is not practical, install the sensor on the
ceiling no closer than 50 cm from any wall, ceiling joists, or
xtures.

• Install the mydlink Home Smoke Detector as horizontally
level as possible at an inclination angle of no more than 20°.

• In case you must install the DCH-Z310 in a room with a steep
ceiling slope, mount it at least 50 cm but no more than 1 m
below the ceiling peak.

• If mounting on the ceiling is not possible, mount the sensor
on the wall 4-6 inches (10-15cm) from the ceiling.

• If the area to be monitored is greater than 60 m

or is separated by
ceiling joists, install multiple mydlink Home Smoke Detectors
for better coverage.

Section 2 - Installation

To avoid false alarms, do not install smoke sensors in the following situations:

• Combustion particles produced by burning will trigger the alarm. These are commonly found in kitchens with few windows
or poor ventilation, garages where there may be vehicle exhaust fumes, or near furnaces, hot water heaters, and space
heaters. Position your smoke detector at a distance greater than 20 feet (6 m) from the source of combustion particles. If
a 20-foot distance is not possible, e.g. in a mobile home, try to install the alarm as far away from the combustion particles
as possible, preferably on the wall, and keep the location well-ventilated.

• In very dusty or dirty areas, dirt and dust can build up on the alarm’s sensing chamber, and make it overly sensitive.
Additionally, dust or dirt can block the openings to the sensing chamber and prevent the alarm from sensing smoke
eectively.

• Electrical “noise” from uorescent lights may cause false alarms. Install the smoke sensor at least 5 feet (1.5 m) from
uorescent lights.

Warning:

• Do not mount the mydlink Home Smoke Detector near air vents or wherever there are strong drafts, heavy steam, smoke,
or dust.

• Do not paint the DCH-Z310 as paint may clog the vents and prevent proper functioning.

• Do not use a burning cigarette to test the DCH-Z310 as cigarette smoke clogs the vents. Use the test button to check the
device’s functionality.

• Never remove the battery from smoke alarm to stop a nuisance alarm. Open a window or fan the air around the smoke
alarm to get rid of the smoke. The alarm will turn itself o when the smoke is gone. If nuisance alarms persist, attempt to
clean the smoke alarm as described in this User’s Manual.

• Do not stand close to the smoke alarm when the alarm is sounding. The alarm is loud in order to wake you in an emergency.
Too much exposure to the horn at close range may be harmful to your hearing.

If you have more than one oor to cover, install DCH-Z310 units in the following recommended locations for the best coverage.

Mounting the Device

Step 3:

Place the bracket so that the two longest hole slots are aligned
with the horizontal line you drew in Step 1. In each keyhole slot,
use a pencil to mark the location for the plastic anchors and
screws.

Step 1:

Draw a horizontal line that is six inches long at your chosen install
location.

Step 2:

Remove the mounting bracket from your device by rotating it
counter-clockwise.

Step 4:

Remove the bracket from the wall. Depending on the material
of the wall or ceiling, use appropriate tools to drill two holes at
your markings. After drilling the holes, insert the plastic anchors
to support the screws.

Step 5:

Screw the bracket into the wall. Line up the bracket and the smoke
sensor, then push the sensor onto the mounting bracket.

Step 6:

Attach the cover to the mounting bracket for your device by
turning it clockwise to x it into place. Ensure that the smoke
sensor is securely attached to the mounting bracket.

To install your DCH-Z310, rst download and install the mydlink™ Home app on your mobile device. This app will walk you through
installing and conguring your DCH-Z310.

Step 2:

Launch the mydlink Home app and create a new account or sign
in to your existing account.

Note:
iOS: If you are asked about allowing the app to access your
location, select Allow.
Android: Make sure location services are turned on in your

phone’s settings.

Step 1:

On your mobile device, download mydlink Home by going to
mydlinkhomeapp.dlink.com, or by searching for mydlink Home
in the iTunes App Store or Google Play.

Step 3:

After logging in, tap the Settings icon in the top-left corner,
select Add New Device, and follow the instructions.

Step 4:

When you are asked to scan a QR code, use the code on the Quick
Install Card in your package. Alternatively, tap Manual Setup and
follow the instructions to add it manually.

Congratulations, your DCH-Z310 is now ready to use!

for the latest rmware updates to keep your product secure and
up to date with the latest features.

Tapping the DCH-Z310 under the My Devices page will take you to the device’s settings.

This page lets you add and enable/disable rules which execute actions such as notications (responder) when your DCH-Z310
detects smoke (condition). Tap

to switch between pages.

1. To add a new action for you device, tap New action.

2. Type in a name for this action. Tap Done when you’ve nished

inputting the name.

3. To select the device you want to use as the trigger for this action,
tap + then choose from the list of devices.

4. Select from the available conditions for this device and tap

Next.

5. Type in a name for the new action and tap + to select from the
available responders for this device.

6. Select from the available responders for this device. In this
example we have chosen to send a notication. Tap Done to
nish.

7. Your new action will now appear in the My Actions main page,
where you can modify it by tapping on it or disable it by tapping
the toggle on the right.

8. To delete the rule, simply swipe right on the rule to show the
trash icon. Tap on the trash icon to delete it.

My Places

This page lets you add devices into a group so you can easily see which devices are in a particular location.

1. To create a group, tap New group.

2. On the New Group page, tap the icon to choose an icon or photo
for the group. Tap next to it to enter a name for the group. Then
tap the + icon to add devices to the group.

3. Tick the devices to be included in this group and tap Done.

4. Your group is created and will show up in My Places. Tapping
each device in the group will take you to their settings. You can
tap the icon to activate/deactivate the device.

Troubleshooting

How do I manually add the mydlink™ Z-Wave Smoke Alarm to the network?

Put your hub/controller in Add mode. Press the button on the front of the smoke sensor three times quickly.

How do I remove the mydlink™ Z-Wave Smoke Alarm from the network?

Put your hub/controller in Exclusion mode. Press the button on the front of the smoke sensor three times quickly.

What if the mydlink™ Z-Wave Smoke Alarm is no longer connected to the gateway?

Remove the smoke sensor from the network (see above). Then manually add the smoke sensor to the network again (see above).

How do i know if the battery is low?

You will receive a push notication via the mydlink Home app.

Manually Adding the Device to Your Z-Wave™ Network

The button on the front of the DCH-Z310 can be used to add or remove it from a Z-Wave network. It can also be used to reset
the device to the default factory settings.

If this is the rst time you are adding the device to your Z-Wave network:

Step 1:

Make sure your Z-Wave hub or primary controller is in Network Wide Inclusion (add) mode.

Step 2:

Install the included battery to power on the device. When the battery is rst installed in the device, it will enter Network Wide
Inclusion mode to pair with a hub or controller.

Step 3:

The device will be added to your Z-Wave network in about 5 seconds.

For all other times:

Step 1:

Make sure your Z-Wave hub or primary controller is in inclusion (add) mode.

Step 2:

Quickly press the button on the front of the DCH-Z310 three times to put it into inclusion mode.

Step 3:

The device will be added to your Z-Wave network in about 20 seconds.

Manually Removing the Device From Your Z-Wave™

Network

To remove your DCH-Z310 from your Z-Wave network:

Step 1:

Make sure your Z-Wave hub or primary controller is in exclusion (remove) mode.

Step 2:

Quickly press the button on the front of the DCH-Z310 three times to put it into exclusion mode.

Step 3:

The device will be removed from your Z-Wave network.

Replacing the Battery

Step 1:

Open the battery compartment and remove the old battery (if
applicable).

Step 2:

Insert the new battery into the compartment, ensuring that the
+ and - symbols are aligned properly. After the battery is installed,
you will hear a chirp which indicates the device has power.

Step 3:

Close the compartment cover.

If the low battery warning sounds:

In case the alarm begins to chirp once every 40 seconds or so and its yellow LED also ashes once during that period, this
means that the smoke battery in the alarm is almost out of power. Your controller will receive a low battery alarm and send
a low battery notication. This signal means that the DCH-Z310’s battery is weak. You should replace it with a new CR123A
battery. This warning will last 30 days, but you should replace the battery immediately to ensure your home is protected.

Note: After the battery is replaced, press the test button to check if it is working properly.

Test your DCH-Z310 by pushing rmly on the test button with
your nger until the horn sounds.

If the sound pattern is three beeps, pause, and another three
beeps with a ashing red LED, the alarm is working properly.

Testing Your Smoke Alarm

If the LED is lit yellow: If the LED is lit red:

Tamper Indication

If your alarm has been tampered with (removed from its original
location), the yellow LED will stay lit. The alarm will also continue to
sound until it is placed back into its mounting bracket.

Standby Indication

After installing the battery, pressing the test button will put the alarm
into standby mode and the red LED will ash once every 10 seconds
or so. It will automatically exit this mode after 10 minutes, and the red
LED will only ash once every few minutes.

Alarm Indication

If the detected smoke reaches the alarm threshold, the alarm will sound
while the red LED ashes.
