3. SETTING UP THE APPLIANCE
Please note:
• The rst time you use the appliance, rinse with hot water all removable accessories which may come into contact with water or milk.
Possible traces of coee in the mill are the result of operating tests performed on the appliance before sale, proof of the meticulous care and attention we invest in our products.
You should customise water hardness as soon as possible following the instructions in section “18. Setting water hardness”.
1
1. Connect the appliance to the mains supply (g. 1).
2. Remove the water tank (A17), ll to the MAX line with fresh water (g. 2) then return it to its position (g. 3);
3. Check that the hot water spout (C6) is connected to the nozzle (A8) (g. 4) and place a container (g. 5) of minimum capacity 200 ml underneath the hot water spout and the coee spout;

When making the rst 4-5 cappuccinos, it is normal to hear the noise of boiling water. After this, the noise becomes less.
To enjoy your coee even more and improve the performance of your appliance, we recommend installing a water softener lter (C4) as described in section “19. Water softener lter”. If your model is not provided with a lter, you can request one from De'Longhi customer services.
4. TURNING THE APPLIANCE ON
Every time the appliance is turned on by pressing the on/o button (A7), it automatically performs a preheat and rinse cycle which cannot be interrupted. The appliance is not ready for use until the cycle has been completed.
Danger of scalding!
During rinsing, a little hot water comes out of the coee spouts (A9) and is collected in the drip tray (A15) underneath. Take care to avoid contact with splashes of water.
To turn the machine on, press the button (A7) (g. 6). All of the indicator lights and the icons will shine on the control panel, and all the beverage icons then blink.

13. MAKING COFFEE
13.1 Adjusting the coee mill
The coee mill is set by default to prepare coee correctly and should not require regulating initially. However, if after the rst few attempts it becomes apparent that the coee is either too weak and not creamy enough, or emerges too slowly (drop by drop), this can be corrected by adjusting the grinding adjustment dial (A5) (g. 7).
7
Please note:
The grinding adjustment dial must be used only when the coee mill is in operation.
If the coee is delivered too slowly or not at all, turn one click clockwise towards 7. For fuller bodied creamier coee, turn one click anticlockwise towards 1 (do not turn more than one click at a time other-
wise the coee could be delivered a drop at a time). The eect of the adjustment will be noticed only after making a further 2 cups of coee, at least. If this adjustment does not produce the desired result, turn the dial another click.
13.2 Tips for a hotter coee
To make a hotter coee, proceed as follows:
perform a rinse cycle by pressing OK (B15);
warm the cups with hot water using the hot water function
(see section “15. Delivering hot water”);
• increase the coee temperature (see section “18. Setting
water hardness”).
8
Page 9
13.3 Making coee using coee beans

Important!
Do not use green, caramelised or candied coee beans as they could stick to the coee mill and make it unusable.
1. Fill the beans container (A3) (g. 8) with coee beans;
2. Place under the coee spouts (A19):
- 1 cup, to make 1 coee (g. 9);
- 2 cups, to make 2 coees.
8
3. Lower the spouts as near as possible to the cup. This makes a creamier coee (g. 10);
9
5. Preparation begins and the indicator corresponding to the selected icon blinks on the touch screen (B).
Please note:
To make 2 cups of "espresso" at the same time:

When the indicator light (B2) appears on the touch screen, the container must be emptied and cleaned. The appliance cannot be used to make coee again until the grounds container (A11) has been cleaned. Even if the grounds container is not full, the message indicating that it should be emptied will be displayed 72 hours after the rst coee has been prepared (for the 72 hours to be calculated correctly, the machine must never be turned o by unplugging the power cord).
Important! Danger of scalding
If you make a number of cappuccinos one after the other, the metal cup tray (A12) becomes hot. Wait for it to cool down before touching it and handle it from the front only.
To clean (with the machine on):
Remove the drip tray (A15) (g. 21), empty and clean.
21
Empty the grounds container (A11) and clean thoroughly to remove all residues left on the bottom. This can be done using the spatula incorporated into the brush (C5) .
Check the red condensate tray (A10) and empty if necessary;
Important!
When removing the drip tray, the grounds container must be emptied, even if it contains few grounds. If this is not done, when you make the next coees, the grounds container will ll up more than expected and clog the machine.
16.4 Cleaning the drip tray and condensate tray
Important!
The drip tray (A15) is tted with a level indicator (A13) (red) showing the amount of water it contains (g. 22).
22
Before the indicator protrudes from the cup tray (A12), the drip tray must be emptied and cleaned, otherwise the water may overow the edge and damage the appliance, the surface it rests on or the surrounding area. To remove the drip tray:
1. Remove the drip tray and grounds container (A11) (g. 21);
2. Remove the cup tray (A12) and drip tray grille (A14), then empty the drip tray and grounds container and wash all components;
