BERNINA’s new-look 630 and 640 sewing computers with built-in
embroidery function offer tremendous performance coupled with
the ultimate in ease of operation. Most functions are controlled
quickly and intuitively via a large touchscreen and the new multifunction buttons.
The Favourite Function button, Personal Program, FHS Free-Hand
System and built-in thread cutter are also enormously practical and
time-saving. What’s more, thanks to USB technology, both artista
models are ‘fit for the future’, and optionally available with the
world-first of BSR, which guarantees uniform stitch length even at

Stock embroidery designs
The artista 630 and 640 have a
choice of 70 and 90 stock designs
respectively, including floral, quilting
and children’s designs. The ability to
freely combine and edit designs and
alphabets on-screen will give your
creativity wings!
BSR – BERNINA Stitch Regulator (optional)
The sensational world-first that makes free-
motion quilting easy: the BERNINA Stitch
Regulator, or BSR for short. This presser foot
ensures uniform stitch length, even at variable
sewing speed. The highlight of the presser
foot: the BSR foot can even sew zigzag
stitches.
Large colour touchscreen
The touchscreen displays all the vital in-
formation in each menu: stich width and
length, presser-foot pressure, feed-dog and
needle position. Animations in the user
interface enable intuitive operation of the
machine.
Multifunction buttons
Sewing and embroidery made easy: The
multifunction buttons let you adjust stitch
length and width. In the embroidery area
you can infinitely scale, position and rotate
designs, as well as working with them in
the tutorial. With the new user interface,
all settings are instantly visible.
USB port and BERNINA USB memory
stick (optional)
BERNINA utilizes the latest USB technology
for swift and direct communication bet-
ween your embroidery computer and PC.
The optional BERNINA USB memory stick
lets you carry out updates and save designs
which you can then edit on your PC.
Thread cutter
With the artista 640, the thread end
is automatically cut off after you finish
embroidering a colour in a design. Needle
and bobbin thread can also be cut simul-
taneously at the press of a button in the
sewing, dar ning and quilting modes.
Start/stop button
and Speed control
The start/stop button and the speed
control: two enormously useful features.
Now you can sew without a foot control
– a real help with long seams and quilting
work. The speed control lets you adjust
sewing speed to your personal require-
ments.
Stitch animation
The stitch animation lets you follow each
sewing process stitch by stich on the
colour screen, and the pattern end is
also indicated.
Setup

brightness and col our of the touchscreen
can be adjusted to your own per sonal

CFL sewing light
The built-in BERNINA sewing light illumi-
nates the sewing area around the needle
with bright-as-day, shadow-free light
FHS Free-Hand System
A real BERNINA highlight: The knee-ope-
rated lifter lets you raise the presser foot
and lower the feed dogs at the same time,
leaving your hands free to guide the fabric.
Infinitely adjustable presser-foot pressure
Stepless control of presser-foot pressure lets
you optimize and adjust the even fabric feed.
This helps you achieve the perfect seam with all
thicknesses of fabric, from coarse to delicate.
Separate winder motor
The speed-adjustable winding device helps you
save time: with the artista, you can wind on
bobbins as you sew, embroider or quilt, without
having to interrupt your work. Winding speed
can be adjusted via the multifunction buttons or
the touchscreen.
