For safe operation
1. Be sure to keep your ey e on the needle while embr oidering. When machine is running do not
touch the handwhe el, thread take-up l ever, needle, or othe r moving parts.
2. Remember to turn off the p ower switch and unplug the cord when:
• Operation is completed
• Replacing or remo ving the needle or an y other parts
• A power failure occu rs during use
• Maintaining the mach ine
• Leaving the mach ine unattend ed.
3. Plug the machine direc tly into the wall. Do not use extension cords.
For a longer serv ice life
1. When storing this m achine, avoid dir ect sunlight and hi gh humidity locations. D o not use or store
the machine near a sp ace heater, iron, haloge n lamp, or other hot objec ts.
2. Use only neutral so aps or detergent s to clean the ca se. Benzene, thin ner, and scouring powders
can damage the cas e and machine, and sh ould never be us ed.
3. Do not drop or hit the mac hine.
4. Always consult the o peration manual when rep lacing or installing any ass emblies, the presser
feet, needle, or other pa rts to assure correct ins tallation.

In the event a malfunctio n occurs or adjustment is required, first follow the troubleshooting table i n
the back of the opera tion manual to inspect a nd adjust the machin e yourself. If the proble m persists,

when making any user ser vicing adjustments menti oned in this manual, or if y ou are leaving the
machine unattended.

2Always unplug the machine from the ele ctrical outlet when removing covers, lubricating, or
when making any adju stments mentioned in the instruction manual :
• To unplug the mach ine, switch the machine to the symbol “O” position to tur n it off, then grasp
the plug and pull it out of the electrical outlet. Do not pull on the cord.
• Plug the machine dir ectly into the electrical o utlet. Do not use an exten sion cord.
• Always unplug your machine if the power is cut.
3 Never operate this machine if it has a damaged cord or plug, if it is not working prope rly, if it has
been dropped or dama ged, or water is spilled on the unit. Return the mach ine to the nearest
authorized reta iler or servi ce center fo r examination, repair, elect rical or mech anical adjust ment.
While the machine is s tored or in use if you no tice anything unusual, suc h as an odor, heat,
discoloration or defo rmation, stop using the machine and immed iately unplug the pow er cord.
When transporting the mach ine, be sure to carry it by its handle. L ifting the machine by any other
part may damage the ma chine or result in the ma chine falling, which could cause injuries.
When lifting the machin e, be careful not to make a ny sudden or careless mo vements, otherwise
you may injure y our back or knees.
4 Always keep your work are a clear:
• Never operate the machine with any air openings blocked. Keep ventilation openings o f the
machine free from the build up of lint, dust, and loo se cloth.
• Do not use extension cords. Plug the machine d irectly into the electrical ou tlet.
• Never drop or insert any object into an y opening.

Do not
operate where aerosol (spray) products are being used or where oxygen is being administered.
• Do not use the machine near a hea t source, such a s a stove or iron; otherwise, the m achine,
power cord or garment be ing embroidered may ignite , resulting in fire or an electric shock.
5Special care is re quired when embroi dering:
• Always pay close attention to the need le. Do not use bent or dam aged needles.
• Keep fingers away from all moving parts. Special care is required ar ound the machine nee dle.
• Switch the machine t o the symbol “O” position to turn it off when making any adjustmen ts in the
needle area.
• Do not use a damaged or incorrect needle plate, as it could cause the needle to break .
• Do not push or pu ll the fabric when embro idering.

• Your close attent ion is necessary wh en the machine is used by or near childre n.
• The plastic bag t hat this machine was supp lied in should be kept out of the reach of child ren or

The names of the various parts of the machine and their functions are described below. Before using the
machine, carefully read these descriptions to learn the names of the machine parts.
Front view
a Thread guide plate
Pass the thread under the thread guide plate.
b Thread guide cove r
Pass the thr ead behin d the thread gu ide cover when
threading the upper thread.
c Spool pin
Place a spool of thread on the spool pi n.
d Bobbin winding thread g uide and pretension disk
Pass the thread under this thread guide and around the
pretension disk when winding the bobbin thread.
e Top cover
Open the top cover to place the spool of thread on the
spool pin.
f Bobbin winder
Use the bobbin winder when winding the bobbin.
g Operation panel
From the operation panel, patterns can be selected and
edited, and operations for using the machine can be
displayed (page 13).
h Embroidery unit connect or slot
Plug in the connector for the embroidery unit.
i Presser foot lever
Raise and lower the presser f oot lever to raise and low er
the presser foot.
j Operation buttons
Use these buttons to operate the machine (page 12).
k Embroidery unit
Attach the em broidery unit to the machine, an d then
attach the embroidery frame.
l Thread cutter
Pass the threads through the thread cutter to cut them.
m Needle threade r lever
Use the needle threader lever to thread the needle.
n Thread take-up lever check window
Look through the window to check the position of the

Needle and presser foot section
a Thread guide disk
Pass the thread through the thr ead guide disk when
using the nee dle thread er to thread th e needle.
b Needle bar thread guide
Pass the upper thread through the needle bar thread
guide.
c Nee dle plate
When the needle is lowered , it enters the hole in the
needle plate.
d Needle plate cover
Remove the needle plate cover to clea n the bobbin case
and race.
e Bobbin cover/bobbin c ase
Remove the bobbin cover, and then insert the bobbin
into the bobbin case.
f Embroidery foot “Q”
This presser foot is used for embroidering.
Right-side/rear view
a Handle
Carry the machine by its handle when transporting the
machine.
b Handwheel
Turn the handwheel toward you t o raise and lower the
needle. Always turn the handwheel towards you
(counterclo ckwise).
c Embroidery card slot
Insert the embroidery card.
d USB port connector
Plug the USB cable into the USB port connector.
e Air vent
The air vent allows the ai r surrounding the motor to
circulate. Do not cover the air vent while the machine is
being used.
f Power supply rece ptacle
Insert the plug on the power cord into the power supply
receptacle.
g Main power switch
Use the main power switch to t urn the machine ON and
OFF.

Operation buttons
The operation butt ons help you to eas ily perform variou s basic machine ope rations.
a “Start/Stop” button /
Press the
“Start/Stop” button
to start or stop em broidering.
The machine embroiders at a slow spee d while the button
is pressed. When embro idering is stopped, the needle is
lowered in the fa bric.
The button changes color according to the machine’s
operation mode.
b “Needle Position” button
Press the “Needle Position” button to raise or lower the
needle. Pressing the button twice sews one stitch.
c “Thread Cutter” button
Press the “Thread Cutter” button after embroidering is
stopped to cut both the upper and the bobbin threads.
CAUTION
Note
z Do not press (“Thread Cutter” button)
if there is no fabric under the presser foot or
while the machine is embroidering,
otherwise damag e to the machine may
occur.
z When cutting thread th icker than #30, nylon
thread or other specia l threads, use the
thread cutter on th e side of the mach ine.
Green: The machine is ready to embroider or
is embroidering.
Red: The machine can not embroider.
Orange: The machine is winding the bobbin
thread, or the bobbin winder shaft is
moved to the right side.
● Do not press (“Thread Cutter ”
button) after the th reads have already
been cut, other wise the needle ma y
break, the threa ds may become tangle d
or damage to the machine may o ccur.

Attaching the Embroidery Unit
This section describes how to attach the embroidery unit. Before turning on the machine, attach the
embroidery unit to it. If the embroidery unit is not attached, the machine does not operate.
Embroidery unit precautions
Cautions for the embroide ry unit will be expla ined
below.

z Do not touch the c onnector in the
embroidery unit con nector slot. The
connector cou ld be damaged, and it may
cause malfunctions.
z Do not lift up on t he embroidery carriag e,

This section explains how to turn the machine on and off.
Power supply precautions
Be sure to observe the f ollowing precautions conc erning the power supp ly.
WARNING
CAUTION
● Use only regular household electricit y for the power sour ce. Using other pow er sources may
result in fire, electri c shock, or damage to t he machine.
• Make sure that the plugs on the po wer cord are firmly i nserted into the el ectrical outlet
and the power supply receptacle on the m achine.
• Do not insert the plug on t he power cord into a n electrical outlet that is in poor condition.
● Turn off the mai n power and remove the plug in the foll owing circumstan ces:
• W hen you are away f rom the machine
• After using the machine
• Whe n the power fails duri ng use
• Whe n the machine doe s not operate corre ctly due to a ba d connection or a d isconnection
• During electrical storm s
● Use only the power cord included with this ma chine.
● Do not use extens ion cords or multi-pl ug adapters wit h many other applia nces plugged in to
them. Fire or elec tric shock may resu lt.
● Do not touch the pl ug with wet hands. Ele ctric shock may resu lt.
● When unplugging th e machine, always turn off the main powe r first. Always grasp the plug to
remove it from the outl et. Pulling on the cord m ay damage the cord, or le ad to fire or electric
shock.
● Do not allow the power c ord to be cut, damaged, m odified, forcefully bent , pulled, twisted,
or bundled. Do not p lace heavy objec ts on the cord . Do not subject the cord to heat. The se
things may dama ge the cord and caus e fire or electr ic shock. If the cor d or plug is damage d,
take the machine to your authorized retailer for rep airs before co ntinuing use.
● Unplug the power co rd if the machine is not to be used for a long period o f time. Otherwise a
fire may result.

T urning on the machine
Before turning on the m achine, be sure to att ach the
embroidery unit to it. I f the embroidery unit is not
attached, the mac hine does not operate. ( For details,
refer to “Attaching th e embroidery unit” (pag e 17).)
Prepare the in cluded power cord .

Make sure that the machine is turned off (the
main power switch is set to “ ”), and then
plug the power cord into the power supply
receptacle on the right side of th e machine.

Insert the plug of the power cord into a
household electr ical outlet.

on the right side of the machine to tu rn the
machine on (set it to “I”).

another location, be sure to turn it off.

machine is turned off.

z If a power outage occ urs while the mach ine
is being operated, turn off the machine a nd
unplug the power co rd. When restarting the
machine, follow the ne cessary procedure t o

Viewing the LCD
When the machine is tu rned on, the opening screen appears. The scre en shown below appears a fter the
