The Alesis F2 combines an expression pedal with a volume pedal in one
sturdy, flexible, and easy-to-use package. The F2 is unique in that both
the expression pedal and volume pedal operations work simultaneously.
The F2’s expression and volume features are designed with maximum
product compatibility in mind. The F2 is made to work flawlessly with
products from virtually every instrument manufacturer.

Using the
Volume Pedal Feature
Use a TS (Tip-Sleeve) 1/4" cable to connect a guitar, keyboard, or other
device to the Alesis F2’s VOLUME INPUT.
Use a second TS (Tip- Sleeve) 1/4" cable to connect the F2’s
VOLUME OUTPUT jack to the destination device (most likely an
amplifier, mixing board, or recording interface).
Calibrating the
Volume Pedal
Set the minimum signal level—the quietest sound that will be heard
when the pedal is all the way back—using the RANGE knob. The F2’s
RANGE control allows you to decide whether you want to completely
mute your instrument’s ouput when the pedal is all the way back or
whether, instead, you want to allow some of your signal to pass
through.
Allowing some signal to pass even when the pedal is all the way back
makes it easier to have different levels for lead and chorus or to create
tremolo effects. It can also enhance your realism and control when
playing certain synthesized and sampled instruments.

Using the
Expression Pedal Feature
Use a TRS (Tip-Ring-Sleeve) 1/4" cable to connect the Alesis F2’s
EXPRESSION IN/OUT jack to the expression jack of your Alesis
Fusion, Alesis Spitfire, or other product.
Different products use one of two different wiring standards. Flip the
INPUT SELECT switch to either the left or right position for
compatibility with your device. Feel free to experiment with the switch
to see which setting works best: you won’t do any damage to your gear
by flipping the switch one way or the other.
Calibrating the
Expression Pedal
When shipped, the Alesis F2 is set to travel smoothly from the bottom
of its range to the top of its range. However, some devices will ignore
the signal sent out of the expression jack when the pedal approaches the
top of its range. To compensate for this, you can set the F2 to resist
your foot at some point before the F2 reaches the top of its range.
Locate the recessed, Phillips-head screw on the bottom of the F2.
This is located near the center of the rear panel and just a bit to the
left. (See the drawing at right.) Use a Phillips head screwdriver to
adjust how far the pedal will travel before it offers resistance.
Turn the screw clockwise to make the resistance take effect earlier
in the pedal’s range of motion.
