Implementation of preventative maintenance procedures can bring about significant improvements in operator productivity by avoiding costly equipment breakdowns . Whenever it becomes necessary to make repairs or replace parts on your machine, be sure to insist on genuine UNION SPECIAL Repair Parts . These parts are designed specifically for your machine and manufac - tured with utmost precision to assure long las ting service.

THREADING
& Switch - off ma i n switch before threading! l~hen using clutch motors without actuation lock wa i t until the mot or has stopped totally!
The machines are threaded as shown in Fig. 6.
For easier threading of the looper thread, the castoff plate will flip-up when pressing lever (E, Fig. 6). After threading push the cast-off plate at lever (F) back to its home pos1t1on.
OPERATING
(Machines without "KLIPP-IT" thread trimmer)
1.Switch-on main switch.
2.Lift the presser foot by depressing presser foot lifter treadle.
3.Place the fabric to be sewn under the lifted presser foot and lower the presser foot by releasing the treadle.
4.Depress the motor treadle. The machine sews. Guide the fabric to be sewn.•
5.Release the motor treadle. The machine stops.
6.Turn the needles in up position, lift the presser
foot, remove the fabric in sewing direction from the machine and simultaneously cut the threads with· a pair of scissors.
OPERATING
(Machines with "KLIPP-IT" thread trimmer)
1.Switch-on main switch.
2.Heel the motor treadle, the presser foot lifts automatically.
3.Place the fabric to be sewn under the lifted presser foot and release the motor treadle. The presser foot lowers.
4.Depress the motor treadle. The machine sews. Guide the fabric to be sewn.•
5.Release the motor treadle. The machine stops in needle down position.
6.Heel the motor treadle, the needles move in needle up position, the presser foot lifts automatically, the threads are automatically cut below the throat plate in such a way that the stitch is secured against unravelling and the needle thread ends are wiped out of the fabric.
7.Keep the motor treadle heeled and remove the fabric under the lifted presser foot in sewing direction from the machine.
THREAD TENSION
Set the tension for the needle threads to produce uniform stitches on the undersurface of the fabric.
The tension applied |
to the looper thread should be |
|||
very slight |
and just |
sufficient to |
steady the |
thread . |
Turning the |
tension |
nuts clockwise |
increases |
the ten- |
sion, turning counterclockwise decreases the |
tension . |

PRESSER FOOT PRESSURE
The pressure on the presser foot should be just as strong as to feed the fabric to be sewn uniformly. The pressure exerted by the presser spring should be
slightly |
stronger |
than the pressure exerted by the |
|
spring(s) |
for |
the |
presser foot yielding section(s). |
The regulator |
(E, |

Looper misses right needle loop when operator is trying to match seams or ends of garments
Both needle loops formed properly but brushed out of the way of looper
Needles miss triangle on looper thread side
SKIPPED STITCHES
Causes
Take-up wire set too low
Needle thread pinched by rear needle guard, and collapsing needle loop
Needle thread pinched by front needle guard, and loop pulled back thru needle
Needles do not rise enough to form needle loop properly
-
Large needle loop
Front needle guard pinching needle thread pushing thread thru needle eye
Fabric is not held down in front of the cross seam and is flagging
Needle deflected toward operator who may be holding back on fabric while matching seams or ends of garment
Needle bar set too high
Looper thread too loose, and not making a good triangle
The operator pulls back on fabric, or needles glance off when coming on a seam
Cures
Raise take-up wire slightly
Lower rear needle guard slightly*
Lower front needle guard slightly*
Orop needle bar slightly or increase looper gauge 1/64 to 1/32 inch and readjust needle bar height if necessary*
Lower take-up wire for the right needle slightly, or increase thread tension
