Installation V34 Modem PCB in OKIFAX 5400
A) Disassembly Procedure
• Make sure the fax machine is switched off.
• Open the Document Guide assembly.
• Open the Stack Cover by pressing the two buttons.
• Take out the drum cartridge (ID Unit).
Caution: Do not touch the green surface in the ID Unit. To protect the
ID Unit from light, place the ID Unit in a dark plastic sack.
• Remove the two screws 1.
• Remove the Rear Cover by removing the two screws 2.
• Remove the NCU Cover by removing the screw 3.
• First, open the Main Cover from the front side, and then remove the Main Cover
by removing the nails at both sides on the rear side.
• Remove the Separation Plate by removing the two screws 4.
• Remove the NCU Board by removing the two screws 5.
• Before installing the Modem PCB, make sure that no metallic parts in the fax
machine will contact de Modem PCB when installed. Gently press parts into the
fax machine which might contact the Modem PCB.
• Install the Modem PCB (the Rockwell modem chip should face to the inside of the
fax machine) and fasten it with screw 6.
Caution: Make sure that all connector pins on the V34 Modem PCB are
in line with the Connector CN 15 on the Main Controller Board.
B) Reassembly Procedure
• Reverse the disassembly procedure.
C) Setting the V34 Modem to operate at maximum 33.6 Kbps
Remark: The V34 Modem will operate at maximum speed of 28.8 Kbps if
you do not perform the following procedures.
• Switch the fax machine on.
• Press the SELECT FUNCTION key.
• Press the COPY key twice.
• Press the 2 key on the numeric keypad.
• Press the YES key.
• Enter ‘14’ with the numeric keys.
• Press the NO key to change ‘28.8K’ to ‘33.6K’.
• Press the YES key to confirm.
• Press the STOP key.
• Enter ‘31’ with the numeric keys.
• Press the NO key to change ‘3200’ to ‘3429’.
• Press the YES key to confirm.
• Press the SELECT FUNCTION key to return to standby.
