Cat®Cold Planers
High speed drum and conical bits quickly remove asphalt and concrete prior to resurfacing.
Caterpillar®Cold Planers are designed
for small to medium size paving jobs in
residential and commercial applications.
Cold planers are used to economically
restore asphalt and concrete paved
surfaces to a specified grade or level.
They are ideal for milling bumps or
imperfections in expanded pavements,
removing cracked or deteriorated
pavement, removing traffic lane stripes
and working on jobs where weight
restrictions limit the use of dedicated
planers.
Caterpillar offers five models of cold
planers. The PC203 and PC204 operate
efficiently on the standard flow
hydraulics of Cat Skid Steer and Multi
Terrain Loaders and are best suited for
utility planning applications. The PC205,
PC206 and PC210 are designed
specifically for the high flow auxiliary
hydraulic circuit and horsepower
capabilities of the Caterpillar high flow
machine models. High flow planers are
more productive than standard flow
models due to the greater power
available to the drum making them
ideal for production planning
applications.

them the proven Caterpillar reputation for
performance, versatility and reliability.
Ease of Operation
Caterpillar Cold Planers are designed
with the operator in mind. The coupler
interface is matched to the machine’s
mechanical and hydraulic quick coupler
systems for fast, secure work tool
changes. Hydraulic hose routing, hose
length and quick disconnects have been
optimized to ensure proper routing and
fit-up. Steps are conveniently located
to facilitate operator entry and exit.

virtually everything is at your fingertips.
Features

Two standard flow models and drum
widths: PC203 – 350 mm (14 in) and
PC204 – 450 mm (18 in).
■
Three high flow models and drum
widths: PC205 – 450 mm (18 in),
PC206 – 600 mm (24 in) and
PC210 – 1000 mm (40 in).
■
Self-leveling design automatically
levels itself when placed on the
ground for consistent depth control
without operator adjustments, and
excellent spoil retention. Spoil cleanup
is quick and easy since spoil is
contained inside the planing path.
■
Two wear resistant skid plates
remain parallel to the ground for
optimum stability.
■
Hydraulic sideshift permits close
planing to curbs, walls and other
obstructions. A wide, heavy-duty
frame allows planing outside the
machine wheel width.
■
Independent left/right depth control
allows maximum drum depths to be
adjusted independently on each skid
from 5-8 in (130-200 mm) for greater
consistency of cuts on side-by-side
passes, inclines, and flush planing
around manhole covers and curbs.
Depth gauges are easy to view from
the cab. Independent depth control is
mechanical on standard flow planers
and hydraulic on high flow planers.

Spring tilt and hydraulic tilt
enables planers to oscillate up to
±16 degrees in either direction for
angled cuts. Tilt is hydraulically
controlled on high flow models and
spring controlled on standard flow
planers. The floating spring tilt system
can be manually locked within tilt
range and automatically returns
to level after a cut.

Optimal drum bit pattern and
standard all-purpose conical bits
provide maximum cutting performance
and efficiency, while ensuring superior
surface texture.
■
Direct drive system on the standard
flow models feature a variable speed,
unidirectional, gerotor style hydraulic
motor that delivers the right mix of bit
speed and drum torque for efficient
cutting performance.
■
Planetary drive system on the high
flow models feature a variable speed,
unidirectional, axial piston style
hydraulic motor that mounts directly
to a double reduction gearbox for
optimal cutting bit speed and maximum
drum torque for maximum milling
performance. The planetary gearbox
is mounted inside the planer drum,
enabling the inertia generated by the
drum to dampen load spikes for
smoother cutting operation.

Optional drum widths on all models
(except PC210) offer a wide variety
of different widths for quick, easy
change on the planer.
■
Optional concrete bits are available
for all models for aggressive
concrete milling.
■
Optional water sprinkler kits are
available for all models for dust
suppression.
■
Caterpillar XT and medium
pressure hose, couplings, and
O-ring face seals provide superior
leak free performance and reliability.
All hoses are wrapped with nylon
woven Cordura sleeving for added
operator protection. Hydraulic quick
disconnects enable fast tool changes.
Quick Coupler
Caterpillar Skid Steer Loader and Multi
Terrain Loader Work Tools incorporate
an interface that matches the machine’s
integrated mechanical and hydraulic quick
coupler systems. The rugged, opposing
wedge design holds the work tool tightly
and allows the operator to quickly change
from one high performance Cat Work
Tool to another.
Serviceability
Cat Cold Planers utilize proven
components such as Caterpillar hose,
couplings, O-ring face seals, hardware
and replaceable conical bits. A full line
of replacement parts is readily available
from your Cat dealer to help extend
work tool system life.
