Technological glossary:
Making a big impression The PD4220V pushes the limits of picture performance to new extremes for multimedia entertainment in your home. With its large screen size, plasma display technology is the best way to realize a flat panel display with outstanding image quality. This Marantz plasma has a stunning 1500:1 contrast ratio and a beautiful color reproduction for a crisp and vivid image quality which will transform data from any medium into art. The PD4220V incorporates advanced digital image enhancing techniques, and as you expect from a Marantz, its picture performance is balanced by exceptional good looks. It perfectly complements your AV tuner and surround sound system, at the heart of your home theater.
Plasma technology for perfect color reproduction A plasma display comprises an array of cells (or ‘pixels’), each composed of three sub-pixels corresponding to red, green and blue. In each sub-pixel gas in a plasma state reacts with phosphors to produce colored light. Since these phosphors are the same types used in conventional CRTs, so you get the rich, dynamic colors you expect. Each sub-pixel can produce over 16 million colors. Plasma technology in addition is not affected by magnetic fields and has no color drifts and edge distortion. And all of this in a display that is less than 89 mm (3.5 inches) thick!  Motion-compensated de-interlacing A conventional TV image is interlaced, where each ‘frame’ is built up from two interlaced image fields that are view simultaneously. However, when viewing interlaced video on non-interlaced TVs (like plasma) that display the interlaced images sequentially, an artifact known as ‘tear’ is visible. Tearing is due to both fields showing the object moving at slightly different times. The Marantz PD4220V has a motion compensated de-interlacer that merges the two fields to faithfully reproduce the original frame without unpleasant motion artifacts.
High quality picture performance with natural colors Full compatibility regardless the source or resolution Provides the most accurate reconstruction of the original film content without motion artifacts Ensures a sharp and accurate image Assure clear, distinct colors without smearing effect Automatically converts the resolution of the source to the native resolution of the screen A host of multimedia resources can be easily connected Easy to setup and operate with direct on screen feedback Sound reproduction via you’re a speaker system of your choice
Digital transient improvements Behind the scenes, advanced digital image processing algorithms optimize picture quality, leaving you free to enjoy the ultimate viewing experience. Digital Color Transient Improvement (DCTI) reduces color smear at the vertical edges of bright colored areas on the TV image whereas Digital Luminance Transient Improvement (DLTI) enhances contour detail in scenes for a sharper, more natural picture.  Black level expansion Black level expansion creates richer, deeper black tones. It dynamically analyses every image and literally ‘stretches’ dark areas to a realistic black while leaving light areas untouched. The result is better contrast, without black areas looking gray if you increase the picture brightness.
10-Bit digital gamma processing ThePD4220V uses a high-performance, 10-bit digital gamma processing circuit to optimize the non-linear imaging characteristics. It is far superior to conventional analogue and lesser bit-rate gamma processing; this circuitry delivers natural colors and smooth image graduation.
